MC-Pox 1K
Single-Component Moisture-Tolerant Epoxy Primer for Concrete, Steel, and Damp Substrate Bonding
Authorized Project Distributor — MC-Bauchemie India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
MC-Pox 1K is a single-component solvent-borne epoxy primer from MC-Bauchemie formulated specifically for priming damp and moisture-affected concrete and steel substrates prior to the application of epoxy repair mortars, epoxy protective coatings, epoxy floor systems, and waterproofing membranes. The fundamental problem that MC-Pox 1K solves is the incompatibility of conventional epoxy systems with moisture: standard two-component solventless epoxy coatings and repair systems require a dry substrate (surface moisture content typically below 4 percent by mass for concrete, and surface dry or near-surface dry for steel) for adequate adhesion. When epoxy is applied to a damp or wet concrete surface, the moisture at the substrate surface physically prevents epoxy resin from wetting the pore walls and aggregate surfaces — the epoxy beads up or forms a thin film over the water layer rather than penetrating the pore structure and forming a chemical and mechanical bond. The result is adhesive failure at the primer-substrate interface (interlaminar failure or delamination), with the coating or repair mortar pulling away from the concrete along the moisture-contaminated interface when subjected to mechanical loading, thermal cycling, or hydrostatic pressure. MC-Pox 1K overcomes moisture incompatibility through its solvent-borne formulation and special reactive chemistry: the active epoxy components dissolved in the solvent carrier penetrate into the damp pore structure of the concrete, displacing or absorbing moisture at the pore walls and forming a cured epoxy network directly bonded to the concrete matrix. The cured primer provides a dry, receptive epoxy surface to which the subsequent epoxy coating or repair system bonds in epoxy-to-epoxy mode — the strongest form of adhesive bond in the epoxy system. For steel substrates, MC-Pox 1K provides moisture tolerance and corrosion inhibition, priming lightly rusted or damp steel surfaces where surface preparation to Sa 2.5 (white metal blast) is not achievable on site. Space Arc Engineering supplies MC-Pox 1K for concrete repair contractors, waterproofing applicators, and structural protection specialists across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- Damp concrete surface priming — preparation of water-affected concrete before epoxy repair mortar or coating application
- Flooded basement and underground structure priming — moisture-tolerant primer for wet concrete walls and floors before waterproofing membrane application
- Bridge pier and abutment concrete — priming of tidal zone and splash zone concrete elements that cannot be dried before repair
- Steel structure priming — moisture-tolerant primer for damp or lightly rusted steel surfaces prior to epoxy coating
- EN 1504-2 substrate preparation — moisture-tolerant primer conforming to European concrete protection and repair standard requirements
- Epoxy floor system installation on damp slabs — primer that allows epoxy floor coating application before concrete slab reaches equilibrium moisture content
Key Advantages
- Single-component convenience — no mixing required, no pot-life concerns, simple site application with brush or roller
- Moisture tolerance — penetrates and bonds to damp and wet concrete without requiring substrate drying
- Deep pore penetration — solvent carrier drives epoxy components into concrete pore structure for superior mechanical bond
- Corrosion inhibition — provides passive corrosion protection to steel substrates in addition to priming function
- EN 1504 conformance — suitable for use within EN 1504-2 and EN 1504-3 compliant concrete protection and repair systems
- MC-Bauchemie system compatibility — designed as the primer for MC floor, coating, and repair mortar systems

Frequently Asked Questions
When should a contractor specify MC-Pox 1K moisture-tolerant epoxy primer instead of a standard solventless epoxy primer, and what surface preparation is required before applying MC-Pox 1K to damp concrete in a Ghaziabad basement waterproofing project?
The specification of MC-Pox 1K moisture-tolerant epoxy primer is indicated whenever the concrete substrate to be primed cannot be guaranteed dry at the time of primer application — a common situation in basement waterproofing, underground structure repair, bridge and retaining wall rehabilitation, and floor coating projects where the concrete is in contact with groundwater, capillary moisture, or recent rainwater ingress, and where the drying time required to achieve a dry substrate would significantly delay the project schedule or is simply impractical. In a Ghaziabad or Delhi NCR basement waterproofing project, the concrete walls and floor slab of a basement that has experienced water ingress through cracks, construction joints, or porous concrete are almost always damp or wet at the time a waterproofing contractor arrives on site. Achieving a dry substrate in an actively leaking or recently flooded basement requires a combination of crack sealing (to stop active water ingress), dehumidification, and waiting time — in an Indian monsoon-affected basement in July or August, achieving a surface-dry concrete condition in a leaking basement may require weeks of dehumidification and sealing work before priming can begin, substantially delaying the project and adding cost. MC-Pox 1K eliminates the drying requirement and allows the primer to be applied to damp (but not actively dripping) concrete surfaces, accelerating the project program significantly. Before applying MC-Pox 1K to a damp basement concrete surface, the following surface preparation steps are required. Active water leaks, cracks, and joints through which water is actively flowing must be sealed first using a rapid-setting hydraulic stop cement or a hydrophilic polyurethane injection resin (such as MC-Injekt 2600 hydrophilic PU foam) — MC-Pox 1K is a primer, not a waterproofer, and cannot be applied to surfaces with active water flow or dripping water. After stopping active water ingress, the concrete surface must be abraded or scarified to remove loose, friable, or contaminated concrete — laitance, carbonation skin, oil, grease, release agents, and any poorly bonded existing coatings must be removed by mechanical means (bush hammering, scarifying, grinding, or high-pressure water jetting). The minimum prepared surface profile recommended before applying epoxy primer systems to concrete is ICRI CSP 3 (concrete surface profile 3) — approximately equivalent to a medium-grit sandpaper texture — achieved by grinding or scarifying. Following surface preparation, the substrate should be clean (free from dust, loose debris, and contamination) and surface-damp or surface-wet (not with standing water or free-flowing water) before MC-Pox 1K application. The primer should be applied by brush or short-nap roller in a uniform coat at the specified coverage rate of 4 to 6 square metres per litre, ensuring full coverage of all abraded surfaces, penetration into visible pores and surface irregularities, and adequate wet-out of the substrate. The primer coat must be allowed to reach the tack-free stage (2 to 4 hours at 23 degrees C — longer at lower temperatures) but must be overcoated with the subsequent epoxy coating or waterproofing membrane before it fully cures (within 24 hours at 23 degrees C), as a fully cured epoxy primer surface that has been exposed for more than 24 hours may lose its reactive surface and require re-priming or abrading before the next coat is applied. Space Arc Engineering provides full technical support for moisture-tolerant primer and epoxy coating system specification for basement and underground structure waterproofing projects across Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.
