MC-Bauchemie MC-Color PU
A two-component aliphatic polyurethane topcoat that keeps its colour and gloss under direct sun, for car parks, facades and outdoor concrete floors that must not yellow or chalk.
What is it?
A solvent-borne, two-component aliphatic polyurethane coating (polyol base plus HDI hardener) that cures to a tough, UV-transparent film with excellent colour retention.
Where is it used?
Exposed concrete floors and surfaces that see sunlight: exterior car park decks, airport pavements, rooftop plant pads, outdoor sports courts and concrete facades, and as a finish coat over epoxy floors.
Why use it?
Aromatic epoxies yellow and chalk within months outdoors. MC-Color PU resists photochemical breakdown, so a RAL shade stays close to specification for years while still shrugging off oils, fuels and traffic.
How is it applied?
Roller or spray applied in two coats over a sound, primed substrate, typically 80 to 150 microns dry film thickness per coat, with a 2 to 3 hour pot life at 23 degrees C.
About MC-Bauchemie MC-Color PU
MC-Color PU is MC-Bauchemie’s aliphatic polyurethane answer to a problem every specifier meets on exposed floors: the coating that looked perfect on handover has gone dull, patchy and yellow a season later. It is a two-component system, an acrylic-polyol base blended on site with an aliphatic HDI isocyanate hardener, and the chemistry is the whole point. Because the isocyanate carries no aromatic ring structures, sunlight cannot drive the photochemical reactions that stain and embrittle ordinary epoxy and aromatic PU films. The cured surface is hard, chemically resistant and, crucially, stays close to the RAL shade it was mixed to.
Space Arc Engineering supplies MC-Color PU as an authorised distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, to engineers, contractors and consultants who are specifying finishes for surfaces the sun never leaves alone. Think the top deck of a multi-storey car park, an airport apron marking, a rooftop equipment platform or the exposed floor of an open sports facility. In all of these an epoxy alone will fail cosmetically long before it fails structurally. MC-Color PU is the coat that carries the appearance, usually laid over an epoxy build-up or primer that carries the bulk and adhesion, giving a system that both performs and still looks specified after several summers.
The technical insight
The durability comes down to what UV light can and cannot break. Aromatic polyurethanes and epoxies contain benzene-ring structures whose bonds absorb UV energy and rearrange, producing the yellow chromophores and powdery chalk you see on aged outdoor epoxy. An aliphatic hardener like the HDI used in MC-Color PU has no such rings, so the film is effectively UV-transparent and holds its colour and gloss instead of degrading. That stability is what standards such as DIN EN ISO 11507 set out to measure, and it is why aliphatic PU, not epoxy, is the correct chemistry for any exposed decorative floor. The trade-off worth understanding is order of use: aliphatic PU is a finishing chemistry, not a bulk build coat. In a typical outdoor system an epoxy provides adhesion, thickness and mechanical body while a thin MC-Color PU topcoat, laid at 80 to 150 microns, protects it and carries the colour. Get the sequence and cure windows right and you have a floor that is both mechanically sound and cosmetically stable for years.
Where it is used
- Top deck and exposed ramps of multi-storey and open car parks
- Airport aprons, taxiways and other pavements needing durable line and area colour
- Concrete facades and architectural surfaces where colour must stay true
- Rooftop equipment pads, plant platforms and exposed service floors
- Outdoor sports courts, walkways and recreational hardstanding
- UV-stable finish coat over epoxy floors in daylit or skylit interiors
- Exposed plinths, kerbs and detailing that must match a specified RAL shade
- Refurbishment of aged epoxy floors that have yellowed and need a colour-fast recoat
Key advantages
- Aliphatic chemistry resists yellowing and chalking under sustained outdoor UV
- Strong colour and gloss retention, available across the full RAL range
- Taber abrasion loss below 50 mg (CS10, 1000 g, 1000 cycles) for good traffic wear
- Resists oils, fuels and common cleaning agents on car park and industrial floors
- Flexible film accommodates thermal movement of exterior slabs without cracking
- Thin-film topcoat that upgrades an existing epoxy system economically
- Complies with EN 1504-2 for surface protection of concrete structures
- Suitable for both interior and exterior use from one product family
Limitations & considerations
- It is a topcoat, not a self-levelling build coat; it needs a primer or epoxy body beneath it for thickness and adhesion
- Solvent-borne, so it requires adequate ventilation, PPE and solvent-safe handling during application
- Two-component with a 2 to 3 hour pot life at 23 degrees C, so mixed material must be used within the window and mixing discipline is essential
- Pot life and cure shorten in Indian summer heat and lengthen in cold or damp conditions, so timing must be planned to ambient temperature
- Full UV and colour benefit depends on correct film thickness; under-application compromises performance
- Substrate must be sound, dry and correctly prepared, or the whole system risks delamination regardless of the topcoat quality
Selection & best practice
Treat MC-Color PU as the finishing layer of a system, not a standalone floor. Start with a substrate that is sound, clean and dry, mechanically prepared and primed, then build the required body with an epoxy before the PU topcoat. Mix component A and B thoroughly in the supplied ratio and only mix what the team can lay within the 2 to 3 hour pot life, remembering that Delhi NCR summer temperatures will shorten it. Apply two coats to reach the specified 80 to 150 microns dry film per coat, respecting the overcoat window between coats so the film builds and bonds correctly. Protect the wet film from rain, dust and traffic until cured, and keep an eye on ambient temperature and dew point, since applying near dew point or in falling temperatures invites blushing and adhesion problems. Where the job is decorative and colour-critical, mix from a single batch or lot to avoid shade variation across bays.

Industry use cases
Car parks and mobility
Exposed top decks and ramps that take vehicle traffic, oil and fuel spillage while sitting in full sun; MC-Color PU keeps line colour and finish stable where an epoxy would yellow and chalk.
Aviation and infrastructure
Airport aprons, pavements and exposed concrete details where durable, colour-fast surface protection and EN 1504-2 compliance are specified.
Commercial rooftops and facades
Rooftop plant pads, service floors and architectural concrete facades that must hold a specified RAL shade against continuous UV exposure.
Sports and recreation
Outdoor courts, walkways and hardstanding needing a hard-wearing, weatherable coloured finish that resists sun fade and foot traffic.
Industrial and warehouse refurbishment
Recoating aged or yellowed epoxy floors in daylit and skylit buildings, restoring appearance with a UV-stable topcoat rather than a full re-lay.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-Color PU
MC-Color PU sits at the finishing end of a floor system rather than replacing one, so it pairs naturally with a build coat beneath it. Within MC-Bauchemie’s own range it works alongside the MC-DUR epoxy floor coatings and screeds, which provide the primer and body, while MC-Color PU supplies the UV-stable, colour-fast top layer; where crack-bridging exterior facade protection is the aim rather than a trafficked floor, the MC-Color surface-protection family (such as MC-Color Proof and MC-Color Flex) is the sister route to consider. Across our other brands, specifiers comparing options will find equivalent aliphatic PU topcoats from Fosroc, and for heavy-duty coloured warehouse floors an epoxy system from Sika or Fosroc under a PU seal is the common alternative. Space Arc can specify the whole stack, primer, epoxy build and PU topcoat, from a single source.
Fosroc Nitocote PU Aliphatic — Choose the Fosroc option when the specification is Fosroc-based or a single-component aliphatic PU topcoat is preferred for simpler on-site handling over concrete, steel or cured epoxy.
