What is it?

A two-component, 100% solids (solvent-free) self-levelling epoxy floor topping from MC-Bauchemie, laid 2-3 mm thick over a primed concrete substrate as a hard-wearing decorative wear layer.

Where is it used?

Hygiene-critical and heavy-duty interior floors: pharmaceutical GMP suites, food and beverage plants, electronics cleanrooms, automotive workshops, laboratories, and premium commercial spaces.

Why use it?

It gives a jointless, non-porous surface that is easy to clean, resists most process chemicals, and carries forklift and foot traffic without the dust, cracks or grout lines of bare or tiled concrete.

How is it applied?

Prime the concrete, mix Part A and Part B at low speed, pour the mix onto the floor, spread with a notched trowel to gauge thickness, then de-aerate with a spiked roller and let it self-level.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-Floor SL

MC-Floor SL is MC-Bauchemie’s self-levelling epoxy answer to a problem every plant engineer knows well: bare concrete dusts, absorbs spills and grows bacteria in its pores, while tiled floors trap dirt in every grout line and lift under trolley wheels. The product is a two-part, 100% solids epoxy — an epoxy resin base blended on site with an amine hardener — that contains no solvent, so almost nothing evaporates as it cures. Poured at 2 to 3 mm in a single pass, it flows out under its own weight into a continuous, pore-free film that bonds tightly to a properly primed slab and reads as one uninterrupted surface from wall to wall.

For engineers, contractors and consultants specifying floors in Delhi NCR and across India, the appeal is a finish that behaves the same on day one and after years of scrubbing. The cured layer is dense and glossy, wipes clean without holding residue, and stands up to the dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and detergents that a working floor meets daily. Space Arc Engineering supplies MC-Floor SL as an authorised distributor and applies it in-house, so the same team that quotes the system also owns the substrate prep, moisture checks and laying that decide whether a self-levelling floor actually performs.

The technical insight

The word that matters in “self-levelling” is flow. MC-Floor SL is formulated with a balanced viscosity so that once mixed and poured, gravity does the finishing work: the material spreads out, closes over trowel lines and settles into a level plane on its own, which is why the surface comes out mirror-smooth rather than carrying the ridges a hand-applied coating leaves behind. Being 100% solids is the second half of the story — a solvent-borne floor loses volume as the solvent flashes off, which can pull the film, trap bubbles and thin the wear layer, whereas MC-Floor SL cures with essentially no shrinkage so the 2-3 mm you pour is the 2-3 mm you keep. The crosslinked epoxy network that forms as resin and hardener react is both hard and chemically inert, which is where the >60 MPa compressive strength and the tight abrasion figure come from. That density is also what makes the floor hygienic: with no open pores and no joints, there is nowhere for liquids, dust or microbes to lodge, so the surface can be cleaned back to bare epoxy every shift.

Where it is used

  • Pharmaceutical GMP production, packing and corridor floors that must be cleaned to a validated standard
  • Food and beverage processing halls exposed to fats, oils, sugars and wash-down detergents
  • Electronics and semiconductor cleanrooms where floor dust and particle shedding must be near zero
  • Automotive assembly lines and vehicle workshops carrying rolling loads, jacks and dropped tools
  • Laboratory and quality-control room floors needing chemical resistance and easy decontamination
  • Commercial showrooms, retail floors and lobbies wanting a seamless high-gloss decorative finish
  • Warehousing and light-manufacturing zones over sound concrete that need a dust-free, wipeable surface

Key advantages

  • Seamless and jointless, so there are no grout lines or cracks for dirt and bacteria to collect in
  • 100% solids and solvent-free, giving negligible shrinkage and very low odour during application
  • Self-levels to a mirror-smooth, high-gloss finish that hides trowel marks
  • High compressive strength above 60 MPa and low abrasion loss for heavy foot and trolley traffic
  • Broad chemical resistance to dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and cleaning agents
  • Non-porous surface that cleans easily and suits hygiene-critical GMP and food environments
  • Fast enough turnaround to take foot traffic in about 24 hours at 25 degrees C
  • Backed by MC-Bauchemie’s system range, with matching primers for a complete floor build-up

Limitations & considerations

  • It is an interior floor topping, not a UV-stable coating; direct sunlight can yellow or chalk the gloss over time
  • The concrete must be sound, dry (below 75% RH) and at least 28 days cured, or the floor can blister and debond
  • Water and hydrostatic moisture pushing up through the slab will lift it, so a damp-tolerant or water-based system may suit wet or green substrates better
  • Pot life is only 20-30 minutes at 25 degrees C, so mixed material must be poured and worked quickly
  • It is not a thermal-shock or steam-cleaning floor; sustained high heat and aggressive hot wash-down call for a PU screed instead
  • Surface and air temperature must stay in the 10-30 degrees C window and above 3 degrees C over dew point during laying and cure

Selection & best practice

Success with a self-levelling floor is decided before the epoxy is opened. Start by confirming the concrete is at least 28 days old, mechanically prepared by shot-blasting or grinding to an open profile, and reading below 75% relative humidity — never lay over a slab that fails the moisture check. Prime the prepared surface with the matching MC-Bauchemie primer and blind excess primer with sand where needed so the topping keys in. Keep surface temperature between 10 and 30 degrees C and at least 3 degrees C above the dew point throughout laying and curing. Mix Part A and Part B thoroughly but slowly, below about 300 RPM, to avoid whipping air into the resin, then pour immediately and gauge the thickness with a notched trowel before back-rolling with a spiked roller to release trapped air. Work within the 20-30 minute pot life, protect the fresh floor from foot traffic for 24 hours, and hold back any chemical exposure or wash-down for the full 7-day cure.

Frequently asked questions

How thick is an MC-Floor SL floor and how much material do I need?
It is laid 2-3 mm thick in a single application. Budget roughly 3.0-3.5 kg per square metre at 2.5 mm, plus separate primer, and add a margin for surface texture and wastage.
How soon can we walk on it and put the area back into service?
At 25 degrees C it takes foot traffic in about 24 hours. Reach full cure at 7 days before allowing chemical spills, forklift loading or wash-down; cooler weather extends all of these times.
Can MC-Floor SL be applied over a damp or new concrete slab?
No. The slab should be at least 28 days cured and reading below 75% relative humidity. For damp or green substrates a water-based, damp-tolerant topping such as Fosroc Nitoflor SL2050 is the safer specification.
What chemicals does the cured floor resist?
It handles dilute sulphuric acid (10%), sodium hydroxide (30%), isopropyl alcohol, fats, oils and common cleaning detergents. For prolonged strong-acid or high-temperature exposure, ask us about a PU or novolac system instead.
Is it suitable outdoors or in areas of direct sunlight?
It is designed for interiors. Like most epoxies it is not UV-stable and can yellow or lose gloss under direct sun, so exposed areas are better served by a UV-stable polyurethane topcoat.
Why use a self-levelling epoxy instead of tiles or a painted floor?
Tiles have grout joints that trap dirt and lift under trolleys, and floor paint is only a thin film. MC-Floor SL builds a jointless 2-3 mm wear layer that is denser, more chemical-resistant and far easier to keep hygienically clean.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-Floor SL

MC-Floor SL sits at the smooth, high-gloss end of MC-Bauchemie’s floor range, best where hygiene and appearance matter and the substrate is sound and dry. For areas that need texture or extra build, pair it with the matching MC-Bauchemie primer and, where slip resistance is required, broadcast quartz aggregate into the wet coat. Where the concrete is damp, new or subject to rising moisture, we would steer you to a water-based system rather than this 100% solids topping. Across our other brands, Sika’s Sikafloor SL range and Dr. Fixit or STP epoxy floor systems cover similar duties, and for heavy thermal-shock or steam-clean environments a polyurethane (PU) screed is the right call over any self-levelling epoxy. Space Arc can specify and apply the full build-up so primer, topping and finish work as one system.
