MC-Bauchemie MC Centrament Plast 600
A sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde plasticiser that cuts water demand economically across M20-M40 ready-mix, precast and site-batched concrete.
What is it?
A liquid SNF-based (sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde) mid-range plasticiser/superplasticiser from MC-Bauchemie, conforming to IS 9103 Type F and chloride-free.
Where is it used?
M20 to M40 ready-mix and site-batched concrete, precast yards, mass concrete pours, blocks and hollow-core slabs, and cement-based mortars and grouts.
Why use it?
Delivers 15-20% water reduction at a lower price point than PCE grades, improving workability and strength while staying stable across OPC, PPC and PSC cements.
How is it applied?
Dosed at 0.5-2.0% by mass of cement, added to the mixing water or delayed into the mix; never onto dry cement. Trial the dosage on site before bulk batching.
About MC-Bauchemie MC Centrament Plast 600
Centrament Plast 600 is MC-Bauchemie’s workhorse water-reducing admixture for the broad middle of the concrete market — the M20 to M40 grades that make up the bulk of ready-mix and site-batched output in India. It is a liquid sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) condensate, the well-proven chemistry that plants have relied on for decades before polycarboxylate ethers arrived. That maturity is exactly the point: SNF is predictable, forgiving of variable aggregates and cement chemistries, and considerably kinder to the admixture budget than a PCE on high-volume pours where every rupee per cubic metre matters.
For a distributor’s customer, the appeal is straightforward. You get a genuine 15-20% cut in water demand at normal dosage, which either firms up strength and durability at the same slump or lets you trim cement content at target strength. It conforms to IS 9103 Type F and EN 934-2 Type F, carries no added chloride, and works across OPC 43, OPC 53, PPC and PSC without the sharp sensitivity to temperature and cement alkali that can make PCE dosing twitchy on a hot afternoon. It is not the product for self-compacting or very-low-water high-performance mixes — but for everyday structural concrete produced at volume, it hits a practical sweet spot of performance and cost.
The technical insight
SNF admixtures work by electrostatic dispersion. Freshly mixed cement grains carry patchy surface charges that make them clump together, trapping mixing water inside the flocs where it does nothing for workability. The long naphthalene-sulphonate molecules adsorb onto the cement particles and blanket them in a strongly negative charge, so the grains repel one another and the flocs break apart. That releases the trapped water back into the paste, which is why you can pour out 15-20% of the batch water and still hold the same slump. The trade-off is inherent to the mechanism: electrostatic repulsion is a shorter-lived effect than the steric hindrance a PCE provides, so slump life sits around 30-45 minutes rather than the longer retention of a polycarboxylate. That window is comfortable for most site and short-haul ready-mix work but is the reason SNF is not the first choice for long transit distances or SCC.
Where it is used
- M20 to M40 ready-mix concrete produced at commercial batching plants
- Site-batched structural concrete for RCC columns, beams, slabs and rafts
- Precast production where a clean early finish and consistent workability matter
- Mass concrete pours where reduced water content helps control heat and shrinkage
- Concrete blocks, pavers and hollow-core slabs on semi-dry and wet-cast lines
- Cement-based mortars and grouts needing improved flow at lower water content
- Pumped concrete for medium-rise and infrastructure work over short to moderate delivery times
- Value-engineered mixes where trimming cement at target strength lowers cost per cubic metre
Key advantages
- Economical water reduction of 15-20% at standard dosage, rising to 20-25% at high dosage
- Markedly lower cost per cubic metre than PCE superplasticisers on high-volume pours
- Broad cement compatibility across OPC 43, OPC 53, PPC and PSC
- Less sensitive to ambient temperature and cement alkali variability than PCE grades
- Chloride-free and IS 9103 / EN 934-2 Type F compliant, safe for reinforced and prestressed work
- Improves cohesion and finish while reducing bleeding and segregation at controlled dosage
- Available in 25-litre cans for site and 200-litre drums or 1000-litre IBCs for plant use
- Proven, predictable SNF chemistry that batchers already know how to dose and control
Limitations & considerations
- Slump retention of only 30-45 minutes limits it for long transit or extended-hold pours
- Not suited to self-compacting concrete or very low water-cement, high-performance mixes
- Overdosing beyond the recommended range can cause retardation, bleeding or segregation
- Delivers less water reduction than a modern PCE at the same dosage, so it is not the choice where maximum efficiency is needed
- As a brown liquid it should be trial-batched with the actual site materials, since aggregate and cement variations shift optimum dosage
Selection & best practice
Add Centrament Plast 600 to the mixing water or dose it into the wet mix after the water — never pour it onto dry cement or dry aggregate, where it cannot disperse. Start trials at around 0.8% by mass of cement for M25-M35 pump concrete and adjust within the 0.5-2.0% range to hit target slump; confirm the dosage on a site trial batch with the actual cement and aggregates before committing to production, because optimum dosage shifts with materials. Keep total water within the mix design after accounting for the water reduction, and time the pour and placement to the 30-45 minute slump window rather than assuming a longer working life. Store the drums in shade off the ground, keep them sealed against contamination, and stir if any settlement is seen after long storage.

Building & Infrastructure Contractors
Site-batched RCC for columns, beams, slabs and rafts where the 15-20% water cut lifts strength and durability without switching to a costlier PCE.
Precast & Block Manufacturers
Wet-cast and semi-dry lines for slabs, pavers and hollow-core units, where predictable workability and clean finish support fast de-moulding cycles.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC Centrament Plast 600
Within the MC-Bauchemie range, Centrament Plast 600 is the economical SNF workhorse. Step up to a PCE-based MC superplasticiser such as the MC-PowerFlow series when the job calls for self-compacting concrete, long transit-time slump retention, or very low water-cement high-performance mixes. For waterproofing rather than water reduction, MC’s Centrament Proof integral admixtures address permeability in the same batch. As a multi-brand distributor, Space Arc can also cross-reference this grade against equivalent SNF plasticisers from Fosroc, Sika, Dr. Fixit and other lines we carry, so specifiers can match availability and price without changing the mix intent.
