What is it?

A chloride-free, high-range water-reducing superplasticiser from Fosroc’s Conplast SP430 family, based on sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) polymers, supplied as a brown liquid that disperses instantly in the mix water.

Where is it used?

Ready-mix and site-batched structural concrete across Delhi NCR and Pan-India – high-rise RCC, precast and pre-stressed elements, pumped and self-flowing pours, water-retaining structures, and congested-reinforcement sections needing M30 and higher grades.

Why use it?

It cuts mixing water by up to 25% at a constant slump, lifting strength at all ages, reducing permeability, and improving pumpability and finish without adding chloride that would attack reinforcement.

How is it applied?

Dosed into the gauging water at the batching plant or mixer at roughly 0.7-1.5 litres per 100 kg of cementitious content, then mixed normally – never added to dry cement or aggregate.

About Fosroc Conplast SP430M

Fosroc Conplast SP430M belongs to the well-established Conplast SP430 range of superplasticising concrete admixtures. The base SP430 chemistry is a chloride-free, sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) polymer dispersion supplied as a brown, water-soluble liquid. Fosroc catalogues a number of SP430 sub-codes – SP430R, SP430G8, SP430DIS, SP430KR(M)6 and SP430M among them – where the suffix denotes a regional or formulation tuning of the same core naphthalene-based superplasticiser, typically adjusting set behaviour, slump-retention or local raw-material compatibility while keeping the SP430 performance signature.\n\nFunctionally, SP430M acts as a high-range water reducer. The long-chain SNF molecules adsorb onto cement grains and impart a strong negative charge, so the particles repel each other instead of flocculating. That deflocculation releases trapped water, letting the concrete flow freely at a much lower water content. The result is the classic superplasticiser trade-off the user chooses at the mix-design stage: keep the water-cement ratio fixed and gain a large slump increase for easy placing and pumping, or hold the slump and slash water by up to a quarter to drive up strength and durability.\n\nBecause it is chloride-free, SP430M is safe in reinforced, pre-stressed and pre-cast concrete where chloride-bearing accelerators are prohibited. It is supplied ready to use and is compatible with all ordinary Portland and blended cements (PPC, PSC and fly-ash mixes) other than high-alumina cement. For Indian projects it is positioned for M30-grade concrete and above, and for any pour where reduced permeability, pumpability and a dense, durable finish matter. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies SP430M with batch documentation and on-site trial-mix support across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

The technical insight

The performance comes from electrostatic dispersion, not chemistry that changes the cement itself. SNF polymers are anionic; once adsorbed they raise the zeta potential on the cement surface so grains stay apart. This frees the inter-particle water that would otherwise be locked inside cement flocs, which is why a 20-25% water cut is achievable at the same workability. Lower free water means a lower water-cement ratio, fewer capillary pores, and therefore higher compressive strength and markedly lower permeability – the durability lever that matters most in India’s aggressive coastal, sulphate and carbonation environments. Naphthalene-based superplasticisers like SP430 give strong initial slump but shorter slump life than newer polycarboxylate ethers (PCE), so for long-haul ready-mix or hot-weather pours the dosage and retarder strategy should be set by trial mix. At normal dosage the admixture adds negligible entrained air, so air-void durability still depends on a separate air-entrainer where freeze-thaw is a concern.

Where it is used

  • High-strength structural RCC for high-rise towers, columns and transfer slabs (M30 and above)
  • Ready-mix concrete requiring consistent workability and water reduction at the plant
  • Precast and pre-stressed elements where high early strength enables faster mould turnaround
  • Pumped concrete and long-distance placement needing improved flow without extra water
  • Water-retaining and low-permeability structures – tanks, basements, STPs, retaining walls
  • Congested-reinforcement and complex-shuttering pours where free-flowing concrete avoids honeycombing
  • Reduced-permeability concrete for durability in coastal, sulphate-rich or high-chloride exposure zones

Key advantages

  • Cuts mixing water by up to 25% at constant workability, raising strength at all ages
  • Chloride-free – safe for reinforced, pre-stressed and precast concrete
  • Improves cohesion and particle dispersion, reducing segregation and bleeding
  • Produces dense, low-permeability concrete for better durability and corrosion resistance
  • Improves pumpability and placement in congested or complex formwork
  • Compatible with OPC and blended cements (PPC, PSC, fly-ash) except high-alumina cement
  • Supplied as a ready-to-use liquid that disperses instantly in the gauging water
  • Supports high early strength for faster precast demoulding and formwork cycling

Limitations & considerations

  • Naphthalene-based chemistry gives shorter slump retention than newer PCE superplasticisers – not ideal for very long ready-mix hauls without retarder support
  • Overdosing can cause excessive retardation, segregation or bleeding – dosage must be set by trial mix
  • Adds negligible entrained air, so a separate air-entrainer is needed for freeze-thaw durability
  • Not compatible with high-alumina cement
  • Performance varies with cement source, ambient temperature and aggregate – site trials are essential
  • As a regional sub-code, project-specific data should be confirmed against the batch TDS supplied with the consignment
  • Liquid admixture – protect from frost and direct sun, and reseal drums to preserve shelf life

Selection & best practice

Always establish the optimum dosage with site trial mixes using the actual cement, aggregates and ambient conditions, starting in the 0.7-1.5 litres/100 kg cement range. Add SP430M to the gauging water (or to the mix after most water is in) – never onto dry cement or aggregate – and extend wet-mixing time slightly to fully develop dispersion. Hold the water-cement ratio you designed for: the water saving is the benefit, so do not re-add water on site to chase slump. In hot weather or for long transit, pair it with a compatible Fosroc retarder rather than over-dosing the superplasticiser. Store drums sealed, shaded and above freezing, and use the verified batch TDS that ships with the consignment for the controlling specification.

Frequently asked questions

Is Conplast SP430M a real Fosroc product?
Yes. SP430M is one of the catalogued sub-codes within Fosroc’s established Conplast SP430 superplasticiser range, which is listed on the official fosroc.com product page alongside variants such as SP430R, SP430G8 and SP430KR(M)6. It shares the chloride-free sulphonated-naphthalene base chemistry of the SP430 family. Because it is a regional sub-code, we recommend confirming project-specific values against the batch technical data sheet supplied with your consignment.
What does Conplast SP430M actually do to concrete?
It is a high-range water reducer. It disperses cement particles electrostatically so the mix flows freely at much lower water content – letting you either gain a large slump increase at the same water-cement ratio, or cut water by up to 25% at the same slump to raise strength and reduce permeability.
What is the recommended dosage?
Typically 0.7 to 1.5 litres per 100 kg of cementitious material, extendable toward 2.0 litres for high water reduction. The exact figure should always be fixed by a site trial mix with your actual cement and aggregates, since optimum dosage depends on materials and temperature.
Does it contain chloride or harm reinforcement?
No. SP430M is chloride-free, so it is safe for reinforced, pre-stressed and precast concrete and does not promote chloride-induced corrosion of steel.
Which cements and grades is it suited to?
It works with all ordinary Portland and blended cements (PPC, PSC, fly-ash mixes) except high-alumina cement, and is positioned for M30-grade concrete and above where strength, pumpability and low permeability are required.
How is it different from a polycarboxylate (PCE) superplasticiser?
SP430M uses naphthalene (SNF) chemistry, which gives strong initial workability and water reduction at competitive cost, but shorter slump retention than newer PCE admixtures like the Auramix/Structuro range. For very long ready-mix hauls or extended workability, a PCE or an added retarder may suit better – we can advise on the right Fosroc product per pour.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP430M

Conplast SP430M sits in the workhorse naphthalene (SNF) superplasticiser tier of Fosroc’s admixture line – reliable, cost-effective water reduction for everyday structural and precast concrete, rather than the premium polycarbonate end. Within Fosroc’s own range it is closely related to Conplast SP430 and SP430R (the retarding variant), and contractors needing longer workability retention or self-compacting performance should look at Fosroc’s PCE-based Auramix and Structuro families instead. For accelerated set or cold-weather work it pairs with Conplast accelerators, and for integral waterproofing it complements Conplast WL and the Fosroc waterproofing portfolio. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives in the SNF/PCE superplasticiser space include Sika’s Sikament and ViscoCrete ranges, BASF/Master Builders Solutions (MBS) MasterRheobuild and MasterGlenium, and locally Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP admixtures. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator for Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies SP430M with batch documentation and trial-mix support, and can recommend the most suitable admixture – Fosroc or alternative – for a given mix design, haul distance and exposure class.
