Product Overview
Dekguard Elite is a high-build, elastomeric, acrylic polymer coating for the anti-carbonation protection and decorative finishing of reinforced concrete facades, external walls, and exposed concrete surfaces. Unlike the penetrating Dekguard S silane siloxane treatment, Dekguard Elite is a film-forming coating that provides a decorative coloured surface while simultaneously acting as an anti-carbonation and chloride barrier. The elastomeric (flexible, rubber-like) characteristics of the cured coating allow it to bridge fine hairline cracks in the substrate — cracks up to 0.3 mm can be bridged without the coating cracking itself, preventing water and carbon dioxide from entering through the cracks. Dekguard Elite provides a much more visible protective layer than penetrating treatments, making it suitable for facades where aesthetic renovation and concrete protection are both objectives. It is applied by brush, roller, or airless spray in two or more coats to the prepared concrete or render surface and is available in a wide range of colours. Dekguard Elite is particularly popular for refurbishment of carbonated or deteriorated concrete building facades, where it provides protection, crack bridging, and fresh appearance in a single coating system. Dekguard S (penetrating silane siloxane) and Dekguard Elite (elastomeric surface coating) protect concrete by different mechanisms and each is better in certain situations. Dekguard S is invisible, breathable, and penetrating — it is ideal for new concrete protection where maintaining the natural concrete appearance is important. Dekguard Elite provides crack bridging, decorative colour, and higher visible protection, making it better for facades where cosmetic appearance and crack bridging are important alongside protection, typically in refurbishment. Both provide anti-carbonation protection; Dekguard Elite additionally bridges substrate cracks.
How long does Dekguard Elite provide anti-carbonation protection?
Dekguard Elite anti-carbonation coating typically provides effective protection for 10 to 15 years before re-coating may be needed, depending on the exposure environment, the quality of surface preparation, and the condition of the substrate. Annual inspections are recommended to check for any surface damage or adhesion loss and repair any isolated defects promptly to maintain the integrity of the coating system.
Can Dekguard Elite be applied to masonry and render as well as concrete?
Yes. Dekguard Elite is suitable for application to concrete, cement render, stone masonry, and brick, in addition to reinforced concrete. On highly porous substrates (rough render, open brick), an additional initial sealing coat or primer may be needed to control suction before the main Dekguard Elite coats are applied. The adhesion to a clean, sound substrate is generally very good, and the elastomeric properties provide good performance over the thermal and moisture movements typical of masonry substrates.
