Fosroc Nitoflor EU5 Standard
High-strength, self-smoothing 3-component epoxy underlay that levels and prepares concrete floors before Nitoflor epoxy screeds, toppings and coatings.
What is it?
A high-strength, self-smoothing three-component epoxy underlay made of special resins and graded aggregates, applied 1.5-5 mm thick to level and prepare floors before Fosroc epoxy toppings.
Where is it used?
Industrial and commercial concrete floors – warehouses, factories, food and pharma plants, workshops and garages – as a base layer beneath Nitoflor FC140, FC150 and SL2000 systems.
Why use it?
It corrects undulations and creates a sound, low-absorption, high-strength substrate so the finishing epoxy bonds and performs as specified, while staying cost-effective compared with thicker self-levelling toppings.
How is it applied?
Mix resin base with hardener, blend in the filler aggregate, spread to a uniform thickness with a squeegee or notched trowel, then spike-roll to release air; overcoat between 18 and 48 hours.
About Fosroc Nitoflor EU5 Standard
Fosroc Nitoflor EU5 is a high-strength, self-smoothing epoxy underlay used across the Indian flooring industry to level and condition concrete substrates before a finishing epoxy system is laid. It is supplied as a three-component pack – resin base, resin hardener and graded filler aggregates – that, once combined, produces a dense, seamless levelling layer designed to withstand chemical attack and impact shock. Rather than being a wearing finish in its own right, Nitoflor EU5 is the preparatory screed that gives toppings such as Nitoflor FC140, Nitoflor FC150 and Nitoflor SL2000 a sound, true and predictable base to bond to. For contractors and consultants in Delhi NCR and across India, it answers a recurring problem on industrial projects: existing concrete that is structurally adequate but uneven, locally honeycombed or too rough to accept a thin high-build coating directly. Applied in the 1.5-5 mm band, EU5 fills minor profile variations and consumes the surface irregularities that would otherwise telegraph through a finished floor. The cured underlay is hard, effectively non-absorbent and bonds to concrete more strongly than the concrete’s own tensile capacity, which is exactly the behaviour a specifier wants from a layer that everything above it depends on. It is genuinely a Fosroc catalogue product with a published Indian technical data sheet (reference INDIA/2019/0517/A), manufactured locally by Fosroc Chemicals (India) Pvt. Ltd. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies Nitoflor EU5 with the matching primer and ancillaries and can advise on the correct topping for the duty involved.
The technical insight
Nitoflor EU5 is best understood as a structural levelling course, not a decorative finish. Because the filler component is graded aggregate rather than fine pigment paste, the system develops genuine compressive load capacity – a minimum of 60 N/mm2 at 7 days under BS 6319 Part 2 – which lets it carry forklift and rack-leg point loads through to the slab without crushing. The reported tensile strength of 12 N/mm2 (BS 6319 Part 7) and flexural strength of 25 N/mm2 (BS 6319 Part 3) confirm it behaves as a rigid, brittle-but-strong epoxy mortar that moves with the slab, which is why all existing expansion joints must be carried up through the underlay and the topping rather than bridged. The single most consequential property for a specifier is the nil water absorption result under BS 1881 Part 122, paired with adhesion stated as greater than the tensile strength of concrete: together these mean the underlay neither draws moisture into the bond line nor becomes the weak plane in the floor build-up – any delamination would occur in the parent concrete, not at the EU5 interface. The practical trade-off is workability versus throughput. At 35 degrees C the pot life is only about 70 minutes and overcoating must happen within an 18-48 hour window, so on warm Indian sites batching discipline and crew sizing matter more than the chemistry itself; material left past pot life must be discarded, not re-thinned. The 1.5-5 mm design range is also a hard limit – deeper level corrections call for a coarser-aggregate product in the Nitoflor EU range rather than building EU5 up in thick lifts.
Where it is used
- Levelling and smoothing concrete floors before laying Nitoflor epoxy screeds, toppings and self-levelling coatings
- Correcting minor undulations, scrabbled patches and surface profile variations on industrial slabs (1.5-5 mm)
- Creating a sound, low-absorption base layer in warehouses, factories and distribution centres
- Substrate preparation in food and beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical plants ahead of a hygienic epoxy finish
- Floor refurbishment where old, contaminated or worn concrete must be reconditioned before recoating
- Workshop, automotive and engineering bays requiring a high-strength base under a wear-resistant topping
Key advantages
- High compressive strength (min 60 N/mm2 at 7 days) gives a load-bearing base suitable for forklift and rack traffic
- Self-smoothing formulation produces a seamless, true surface ready to receive Fosroc toppings
- Nil water absorption (BS 1881 Part 122) and adhesion exceeding the tensile strength of concrete
- Cost-effective method of levelling compared with applying thicker self-levelling toppings directly
- Resists chemical attack and impact shock once cured, protecting the integrity of the floor build-up
- Quick and easy to lay with standard squeegee/notched-trowel and spike-roller technique
- Backed by a published Fosroc India TDS and locally manufactured supply, with distributor support from Space Arc
Limitations & considerations
- It is an underlay, not a finished wearing surface – it must be overcoated with a Nitoflor topping or coating
- Application thickness is limited to 1.5-5 mm; deeper corrections need a coarser product in the Nitoflor EU range
- Short pot life of about 70 minutes at 35 degrees C demands disciplined batching and an adequately sized crew
- Overcoating window is narrow – not before 18 hours and not later than 48 hours after laying
- Substrate moisture must stay below 5% and new concrete must be at least 21 days old; rising damp needs a DPM first
- Highly absorbent concrete must first be sealed with Nitoprime 25, adding a step and cost
- Epoxy resins and the Nitoflor Sol solvent require PPE and good ventilation; the solvent is flammable (flash point 33 degrees C)
Selection & best practice
Confirm the slab is at least 21 days old with surface moisture below 5% and no rising damp before starting; install a damp-proof membrane if there is any risk. Mechanically prepare the surface by grit blasting, scabbling or grinding to remove laitance, oil and old coatings, then degrease and dust off. Prime only where the concrete is highly absorbent, using Nitoprime 25 (5.5-6.5 m2/litre). Mix the full hardener into the full base, then add the entire filler bag and mix 3-5 minutes to a homogeneous blend with a forced-action mixer – never split packs by eye. Lay to a uniform 1.5-5 mm with a squeegee or notched trowel and finish with a spiked roller to release entrained air. Batch to the 70-minute pot life, carry all expansion joints up through the underlay, and overcoat with the chosen Nitoflor system within the 18-48 hour window. Clean tools immediately with Nitoflor Sol.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor EU5 Standard
Within the Fosroc flooring range, Nitoflor EU5 sits at the base of the build-up: it is the levelling and conditioning layer, while the visible performance comes from the toppings it is designed to receive – Nitoflor FC140 and FC150 high-build coatings or Nitoflor SL2000 self-levelling epoxy. Where the concrete is highly absorbent it pairs with the Nitoprime 25 primer, and Nitoflor Sol is the matching solvent and tool cleaner; for joint detailing a Fosroc sealant such as the Nitoseal or Thioflex range completes the system. Buyers cross-shopping should know EU5 competes against epoxy levelling/screed underlays from Sika (the Sikafloor levelling and screed grades), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (Ucrete and MasterTop preparation layers), Dr. Fixit (Pidilite’s Roffe/industrial flooring line) and STP Limited – all credible Indian-market alternatives. EU5’s case rests on a published, BS-referenced data sheet, genuine load-bearing strength and the convenience of a fully compatible Fosroc topping system rather than mixing brands across the build-up. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering recommends specifying the underlay and topping from the same system to keep adhesion, warranty and on-site technical support aligned.
