Fosroc Nitoflor Levelcrete
A single-pack, thick-bed self-levelling cementitious compound that re-profiles uneven concrete floors from 12 mm up to 80 mm in a single pour – no traditional screeding required.
What is it?
A one-pack, water-mixed cementitious self-levelling compound from Fosroc that re-profiles and levels uneven in-situ or precast concrete floors in thick beds of 12-80 mm.
Where is it used?
Warehouses, light-industrial and forklift-trafficked floors, garages and workshops, and as a smooth underlayment beneath vinyl, tiles and carpet.
Why use it?
It delivers a flat, level base in one application without separate sand-cement screeding, hardens fast (foot traffic in 10-16 hours), and reaches 40 N/mm2 compressive strength.
How is it applied?
The dry grey powder is mixed with 4 litres of water per 20 kg bag using a forced-action mixer, then poured over a Nitobond-primed substrate where it flows out and self-smooths before being steel-trowelled.
About Fosroc Nitoflor Levelcrete
Fosroc Nitoflor Levelcrete is a thick-bed, self-levelling cementitious floor re-profiling compound engineered for the practical reality of Indian industrial and commercial construction, where existing concrete slabs are rarely flat enough to receive a finish straight away. It is supplied as a dry grey powder – a factory blend of selected cements, graded aggregates, polymers and additives – that needs only the controlled addition of water on site to become a free-flowing, pourable material. Once placed, it spreads under its own weight, fills depressions and undulations, and sets to a hard, dense surface that can carry traffic and accept further floor finishes.
What sets Levelcrete apart from a thin smoothing underlayment is its working thickness. It is designed to be laid from a minimum of 12 mm up to 50 mm neat in a single application, and from 50 mm to 80 mm when gauged with 20 mm Fosroc base aggregate. That range lets a contractor correct genuinely out-of-tolerance slabs, build falls back to level, and bury services or old surface defects in one operation rather than resorting to a separately specified sand-cement screed. Because it is a one-pack system, there is no on-site batching of cement, sand and additive – a discipline that removes a major source of inconsistency on busy Indian sites.
Levelcrete is formulated for the climate it works in. Fosroc specifically tailored it for application at ambient temperatures up to 40 degrees C, and the published performance figures are quoted at 35 degrees C curing – conditions that mirror much of Delhi NCR and Pan-India for large parts of the year. It carries a BRE Screed Test Category “A” pass to BS 8204 Part 1 and shows an indentation of less than 3 mm at 28 days, which is the benchmark specifiers look for when a floor must later take heavy point loads or rigid finishes. For Space Arc clients, it sits in the gap between a simple repair mortar and a full structural topping: a fast, repeatable way to turn a rough or worn slab into a level, sound platform.
The technical insight
The defining technical characteristic of Nitoflor Levelcrete is that it is a thick-bed self-leveller rather than a feather-edge underlayment, and that changes how it must be handled. Its short flow time – roughly 10 minutes at 35 degrees C – means the entire mixing-to-pour cycle is a continuous, planned operation; you cannot batch ahead. The published strengths (10 N/mm2 at 1 day, 40 N/mm2 at 28 days, 5 N/mm2 flexural, >1 N/mm2 adhesive bond) are all derived from 70.6 mm cubes air-cured at 35 degrees C, so cooler curing or different cube moulds will legitimately return different numbers – a point worth flagging to consultants who benchmark against 28-day cube data from other curing regimes. The minimum 12 mm bed is not arbitrary: below it, the product cannot reliably develop its rated physical performance. Bond integrity hinges almost entirely on priming – Nitobond EP brushed in and over-coated while still tacky seals the substrate and stops air-release pinholing – which is why surface preparation, not the mix itself, is where most field failures originate.
Where it is used
- Re-profiling and levelling worn or uneven in-situ concrete floor slabs prior to a wearing finish
- Levelling precast concrete floor units to a common datum without a separate screed
- Forklift-trafficked and light-industrial floors in factories and production halls
- Warehousing and distribution-centre floors requiring a flat, sound base
- Garage, workshop and service-bay floors
- Smooth underlayment beneath vinyl sheet, floor tiles, carpet and other resilient finishes
- Building falls and correcting localised depressions where the slab is out of tolerance
Key advantages
- Lays in thick beds from 12 mm up to 80 mm (with base aggregate), avoiding a separately specified sand-cement screed
- One-pack product – only clean water is added on site, removing batching variability
- Self-levelling, free-flowing material that fills undulations and produces a smooth, trowel-finished surface
- Fast strength gain – accepts foot traffic in about 10 hours at 35 degrees C and 16 hours at 20 degrees C
- High ultimate strength of 40 N/mm2 at 28 days with a >1 N/mm2 adhesive bond to a primed substrate
- BRE Screed Test Category A pass to BS 8204 Part 1 with less than 3 mm indentation at 28 days
- Formulated for hot conditions – usable at ambient temperatures up to 40 degrees C
- Suitable for both new (min 21-day-old) and existing concrete substrates
- Non-toxic and non-flammable, simplifying handling and site storage
Limitations & considerations
- Not a decorative or final wearing surface on its own – it is a levelling/re-profiling layer that normally receives a finish or coating
- Requires a minimum 12 mm bed to achieve rated performance; it is not a feather-edge or sub-millimetre smoothing compound
- Short working/flow time (about 10 minutes at 35 degrees C) demands well-organised, continuous pouring and disciplined mixing
- Substrate must be primed (Nitobond EP) and correctly prepared; porous substrates need multiple primer coats or pre-soaking to avoid pinholing
- Must not be applied when substrate temperature is below 5 degrees C
- Should not be used over floors suffering rising damp unless a suitable damp-proof membrane is incorporated
- Sensitive to direct sunlight and strong drying winds during the first 16-24 hours – protection is required
- Site sampling is not permitted; cube samples must be prepared and cured in a temperature-controlled laboratory
- Limited 6-month shelf life, further reduced by hot or humid storage
Selection & best practice
Confirm new concrete is at least 21 days old and reduce the slab to a clean, sound, laitance-free surface by scabbling, grinding or blasting, then vacuum off all dust. Prime thoroughly with Nitobond EP, applying a second coat to porous substrates and over-coating while the primer is still tacky to seal the surface and prevent pinholing. Mix each 20 kg bag with about 4 litres of cool water (around 20 degrees C) in a forced-action mixer or 1 kW heavy-duty drill with a paddle, adding powder to water and shearing for five minutes; never mix more than can be poured within the ~10-minute flow time at 35 degrees C. Plan the pour so the full required thickness – 12-50 mm neat, or 50-80 mm gauged with 20 mm Fosroc base aggregate at 3-5 kg/m2 – is achieved in one continuous, uninterrupted application, using formwork for deeper beds, then steel-trowel and scrape off any high spots after initial set. Protect the fresh floor from direct sun and drying winds until hard, cure under polythene for two days, and allow a minimum of 48 hours before applying floor adhesives or finishes. Estimate quantities at a yield of roughly 11 litres per 20 kg bag.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor Levelcrete
Within Fosroc’s own flooring range, Nitoflor Levelcrete occupies the heavy-duty, thick-bed levelling niche – it is the system to specify when a slab is genuinely out of tolerance and needs 12-80 mm of correction, rather than a thin cosmetic skim. For shallower smoothing and general-purpose levelling under finishes, the related Nitoflor Leveltop GP underlayment is the lighter-duty counterpart, while Nitoflor Levelcrete 600 addresses faster-track levelling requirements. Where the end requirement is a seamless resin wearing surface rather than a cementitious base, Fosroc’s self-levelling epoxy systems such as Nitoflor SL2050 and SL3000 are the appropriate follow-on or alternative, and dry-shake hardeners like Nitoflor Hardtop serve monolithic power-floated slabs. Against competitor products, the closest equivalents in the Indian market are Sika’s Sikafloor self-levelling cementitious underlayments and the MBCC/Master Builders Solutions MasterTop levelling range; for the most demanding chemical- and thermal-shock-exposed industrial floors, polyurethane screeds such as Ucrete sit a tier above Levelcrete in both performance and cost. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering positions Nitoflor Levelcrete as the pragmatic, cost-effective choice for re-profiling and levelling concrete floors quickly in hot climates – and can advise on the correct primer, base aggregate and overlying finish to build a complete, warrantied floor system.
