What is it?

A four-component, water-miscible epoxy floor screed based on new-generation epoxy resin technology, trowel-applied at 5-10mm to form a hard, matt, water-vapour-permeable wearing surface.

Where is it used?

Cold stores, freezer rooms, commercial kitchens, pharmaceutical and food-processing plants, warehouses, garages, paper, pulp and textile production floors across India.

Why use it?

It tolerates damp and green (one-day-old) concrete with no application delay, cures fast (trafficable in 24 hours), is odour-free and VOC-free, and resists abrasion, impact and a wide chemical range.

How is it applied?

Prime the prepared, sound substrate with Nitoprime WB and blind with Antislip Grain No. 3, then rake, tamp and steel-trowel the mixed screed to a minimum compacted 5mm; seal with Nitoflor FC550 in wet or hygiene-critical areas.

About Fosroc Nitoflor TF5050

Fosroc Nitoflor TF5050 is a heavy-duty epoxy floor screed engineered for one of the most stubborn problems on Indian industrial sites — having to put down a durable resin floor before the concrete substrate has fully dried, or in spaces where moisture in the slab simply never goes away. Conventional solvent-based or solvent-free epoxy screeds blister, delaminate or refuse to bond when laid over damp or green concrete. TF5050 is built differently. It is a four-component, water-miscible system based on new-generation epoxy resin technology, supplied in pre-weighed packs (a colour pack, a base, a hardener and a graded filler) that are mixed on site and trowel-applied at 5 to 10mm thickness. Because the system carries water as its dispersion medium and cures to a water-vapour-permeable film, it can be laid on substrates that are only one day old and on slabs that still hold moisture, allowing vapour to escape rather than building up pressure beneath the floor. For contractors working against tight programmes — a cold store that has to be commissioned quickly, a food plant where the slab cannot be left to cure for 28 days — that single property is often the deciding factor. The cured screed is hard (Shore D 70-75), matt-finished and seamless, with good resistance to abrasion, impact, thermal shock and a broad spread of chemicals encountered in food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical environments. It is also odour-free, non-tainting and contains no VOC, which matters in occupied or sensitive production areas. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor TF5050 as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, pairing the screed with its companion primer Nitoprime WB and seal coat Nitoflor FC550 for a complete, warranted flooring system.

The technical insight

The defining characteristic of TF5050 is that it is water-miscible and water-vapour permeable, and that distinction drives every specification decision. Unlike a solvent-free epoxy screed such as Nitoflor TF5000 — which demands a dry, well-cured slab and an impervious finish — TF5050 cures to a breathable matt film with a measured water-vapour transmission of 0.784 g/hr/m² and a permeance of 1.11×10-7 g/pa.s.m2 (ASTM E96, at 2.34mm). That breathability is what lets it sit on green concrete (typically 28 hours old at 23°C) and on damp substrates without the osmotic blistering that destroys conventional epoxy screeds. The trade-off is that the bare screed, while impervious at 5mm thickness, is matt rather than glossy and is not chemically bullet-proof on its own — Fosroc therefore recommends sealing with Nitoflor FC550 in constantly wet areas or where a high standard of cleanliness or chemical resistance is required. Cure is genuinely fast and temperature-dependent: trafficable in 24 hours and full cure in 21 days at 23°C, accelerating to 15-hour traffic time and 10-day full cure at 35°C, with pot life correspondingly dropping from one hour to 30 minutes. The service temperature window of -45°C to +120°C, combined with proven thermal-shock resistance (ASTM C884) and steam-cleanability, is why it is specified for freezer rooms and commercial kitchens alike. Substrate preparation is non-negotiable — light grit blasting, degreasing of any oil-contaminated areas, then priming with Nitoprime WB blinded with Antislip Grain No. 3 at 0.5 kg/m2 to create a mechanical key.

Where it is used

  • Cold storage areas and freezer rooms where slabs stay perpetually damp and cold
  • Commercial and institutional kitchens requiring a seamless, steam-cleanable, hygienic floor
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing plants and medical laboratories with strict cleanliness needs
  • Food, beverage and dairy processing areas, including edible-oil and soft-drink plants
  • Warehouses, garages and light-industrial floors subject to abrasion and impact
  • Paper and pulp and textile production areas exposed to moisture and chemical spillage
  • Engineering plants and workshops needing a durable, fast-return-to-service floor
  • Green-concrete floors on fast-track projects that cannot wait 28 days for the slab to cure

Key advantages

  • Damp-tolerant and applicable to green concrete (one-day-old), eliminating curing-delay downtime
  • Water-miscible — odour-free, non-tainting and contains no VOC, safe for occupied and food areas
  • Water-vapour permeable, so moisture escapes instead of blistering or debonding the floor
  • Fast cure: trafficable in 24 hours at 23°C (15 hours at 35°C)
  • Hard-wearing — Shore D 70-75 with good abrasion (172 mg loss, ASTM D4060) and impact resistance
  • Wide service range of -45°C to +120°C with proven thermal-shock resistance (ASTM C884)
  • Good resistance to a wide range of chemicals found in food, dairy and pharma environments
  • Steam-cleanable and resistant to bacterial and fungal growth (BS6920 / ASTM D3273)
  • Available in a range of colours and can be coved at perimeters and formed into stairs and nosings
  • Non-flammable and supplied in pre-weighed packs for consistent on-site mixing

Limitations & considerations

  • Must not be applied below 5°C or where ambient relative humidity exceeds 95%
  • Matt bare finish stains under high concentrations of mineral acids, organic acids and strong oxidisers; seal with Nitoflor FC550 where chemical resistance is critical
  • Will reflect any substrate movement or cracking — all existing expansion joints must be carried through the topping
  • Requires thorough substrate preparation (grit blasting, degreasing) and priming with Nitoprime WB; cannot be applied as a stand-alone coat
  • Short pot life — one hour at 23°C, dropping to 30 minutes at 35°C — demands organised continuous placing, especially in Indian summer conditions
  • Minimum 5mm compacted thickness; not a thin-film coating and not self-levelling
  • Hardened material can only be removed mechanically — tools must be cleaned with water immediately after use

Selection & best practice

Always treat TF5050 as a system, not a single product. Verify the substrate is sound and structurally cured for load even if green for moisture, then light grit-blast, degrease any oil-contaminated zones with hot compressed air plus a proprietary degreaser, and prime with Nitoprime WB applied as a thin continuous film worked into the surface. While the primer is wet, broadcast Antislip Grain No. 3 at 0.5 kg/m2 to create a mechanical key, and apply the screed while the primer is touch-dry but still within its open time (4 hours at 23°C, 2 hours at 35°C, 1 hour at 45°C). Mix in the correct sequence — base plus colour pack first until no streaks remain, then hardener for two minutes, then filler for five minutes — and place, tamp with a wooden float and steel-trowel to a minimum compacted 5mm using screeding rods as guides. In ambient above 35°C, store materials in air-conditioned conditions, keep tools cool, avoid the hottest part of the day and stage enough labour for continuous placing within the shortened pot life. Carry every existing expansion joint through the topping. In constantly wet or hygiene-critical areas, finish with a Nitoflor FC550 seal coat.

Industry use cases

Cold Storage & Logistics

Freezer rooms and cold stores keep slabs permanently cold and damp; TF5050’s damp tolerance, vapour permeability and -45°C service rating let it be laid and commissioned without waiting for a slab that will never fully dry.

Food, Beverage & Dairy

Odour-free, non-tainting, VOC-free and steam-cleanable, with resistance to dairy products, edible oils, soft drinks and fruit juices — suited to processing and packing floors with frequent washdown.

Pharmaceutical & Laboratories

Seamless, hard, matt finish resistant to bacterial and fungal growth provides a cleanable, low-contamination surface for manufacturing suites and medical labs, sealed with FC550 where cleanliness demands are highest.

Warehousing & Light Industrial

Shore D 70-75 hardness with good abrasion and impact resistance handles pallet trucks, foot traffic and dropped loads in warehouses, garages and engineering plants, returning to traffic in 24 hours.

Paper, Pulp & Textiles

Wet, humid production environments benefit from the breathable screed that resists moisture build-up and a broad chemical range while withstanding continuous washdown and thermal cycling.

Fast-track New Builds

On programmes that cannot wait 28 days for the slab to cure, TF5050 can be applied to one-day-old green concrete, compressing the construction schedule without sacrificing floor durability.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoflor TF5050 a real Fosroc product?
Yes. It is a genuine Fosroc product with an official Fosroc Chemicals (India) technical data sheet (reference INDIA/0682/A). It is described as a four-component, water-miscible, damp-tolerant epoxy flooring screed applied at 5-10mm thick. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor.
Can Nitoflor TF5050 really be applied to damp or green concrete?
Yes — this is its main advantage. Because it is water-miscible and cures to a water-vapour-permeable film, it can be laid on damp substrates and on green concrete typically 28 hours (one day) old at 23°C, allowing moisture to escape rather than blistering the floor. It must not be applied where relative humidity exceeds 95% or at temperatures below 5°C.
How thick is Nitoflor TF5050 applied and what is the coverage?
It is trowel-applied at 5 to 10mm, with a minimum compacted thickness of 5mm. The theoretical coverage is 5 litre/m2 at 5mm thick, supplied in 12 litre packs. The companion primer Nitoprime WB covers 6-7 m2/litre and is supplied in 1 litre packs. Practical coverage is lower due to wastage and substrate variation.
How long before the floor can take traffic?
At 23°C it is trafficable in 24 hours, with full cure at 21 days. At 35°C traffic time drops to 15 hours and full cure to 10 days. Pot life after mixing is one hour at 23°C and 30 minutes at 35°C, so placing must be organised and continuous.
Does TF5050 need a primer and a seal coat?
Yes to the primer — the prepared substrate must be primed with Nitoprime WB and blinded with Antislip Grain No. 3 at 0.5 kg/m2 to create a key. The bare screed is impervious at 5mm, but in constantly wet areas or where high chemical resistance or cleanliness is required, Fosroc recommends sealing it with Nitoflor FC550.
What chemicals and temperatures can it withstand?
It resists a wide range including water, sea water, alkali solutions, salt solutions, soft drinks, fruit juices, motor oils, dairy products and edible oils. It serves from -45°C to +120°C, passes thermal-shock testing, and can be steam-cleaned. It will stain under high concentrations of mineral acids, organic acids and strong oxidisers, so seal with FC550 where aggressive chemicals are present.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor TF5050

Within Fosroc’s own Nitoflor range, TF5050 is the damp-tolerant specialist. Its closest sibling, Nitoflor TF5000, is a solvent-free epoxy screed that delivers a tougher, more chemically resistant finish but demands a dry, well-cured slab — so the choice between them usually comes down to substrate moisture and programme. For thinner self-smoothing or coating finishes, Fosroc offers Nitoflor FC150 (solvent-free epoxy coating) and the self-levelling Nitoflor FC range, while Nitoflor FC550 is the recommended seal coat over TF5050 itself; the system is completed by Nitoprime WB primer. Against the wider Indian market, the most direct competitors are Sika’s epoxy screed systems (Sikafloor range, including moisture-tolerant grades), BASF/Master Builders Solutions Ucrete and Mastertop screeds, and STP/Pidilite Dr. Fixit Roffe industrial flooring products. Where a true water-based, vapour-permeable screed laid over green or damp concrete is the requirement, TF5050 is one of the stronger options; where maximum chemical resistance or a polyurethane-cement floor for thermal-shock-heavy food plants is the priority, an MBS Ucrete or a solvent-free epoxy may be the better fit. Space Arc Engineering specifies the right system rather than defaulting to one product, and supplies and applies the full Fosroc Nitoflor line across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
