Fosroc Nitoproof 1000
A continuous, seamless, liquid-applied elastomeric waterproofing membrane for concrete foundations, basements, roofs, podiums and wet areas.
What is it?
A liquid-applied, cold-applied elastomeric coating that cures into a continuous, seamless waterproofing membrane bonded directly to concrete and masonry, with the ability to bridge substrate cracks up to 2.0 mm.
Where is it used?
Foundation walls, basement slabs, suspended floors, RC flat and inverted roofs, balconies, patios, bathrooms and other wet areas, inspection pits, planter boxes, podiums, parking decks and tunnels.
Why use it?
It forms a joint-free, permanently flexible barrier with no laps or seams to fail, follows complex contours, resists aggressive ground conditions and cures irreversibly so it will not re-melt or flow at high ambient temperatures.
How is it applied?
Applied cold by brush, roller or airless spray onto a clean, sound, primed substrate; horizontal areas can be finished in a single coat, while a reinforcing scrim is used at junctions, upstands and detailing.
About Fosroc Nitoproof 1000
Fosroc Nitoproof 1000 is a liquid-applied waterproofing membrane from the well-known Nitoproof range of Fosroc, one of the most widely specified construction-chemical brands in India and the Middle East. It is designed to deliver a continuous, elastomeric, seamless waterproof membrane for concrete — in other words, a coating that you apply in liquid form and that cures in place to become a single, joint-free skin tightly bonded to the structure. Because it is liquid-applied rather than supplied as preformed sheets, there are no overlaps, welds or seams, which removes the most common failure points found in traditional membrane systems.
For Indian projects, the product sits in the gap between cheap surface dampproofing and heavy-duty sheet membranes. It is positioned for situations where a contractor or consultant wants a genuinely elastomeric, crack-bridging barrier that can be taken over slabs, walls, upstands and awkward detailing in one continuous operation. The official Fosroc literature describes it as suitable for foundation walls, basement slabs, suspended floors, reinforced-concrete flat roofs, balconies, patios, bathrooms, inspection pits, inverted roofs, planter boxes, podiums, parking garages and tunnels — a span that covers both below-ground tanking and above-ground roof and deck waterproofing.
The defining commercial characteristic of Nitoproof 1000 is its flexibility combined with chemical-cure stability. It cures to a permanently flexible, resilient film over a wide temperature range and, critically for Indian summers, its cure is irreversible — the film will not melt or flow at elevated ambient temperatures the way some bitumen-based products can. It is also formulated to resist aggressive soil and groundwater conditions, making it relevant for sub-structure work in regions with difficult ground chemistry. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoproof 1000 as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, and recommends that the current, country-specific Fosroc Technical Data Sheet always be obtained for the exact grade, coverage and primer before a project is specified or priced.
The technical insight
The engineering value of Nitoproof 1000 comes from being a fully bonded, liquid-applied elastomeric system rather than a loose-laid or torch-applied sheet. A fully bonded membrane prevents lateral migration of water — if a defect occurs, water cannot track sideways under the membrane to find an exit metres away, which is the classic failure mode that makes sheet-membrane leaks so hard to trace and repair. Fosroc specifically calls out this excellent adhesion and the resulting prevention of lateral water migration along the concrete surface as a core benefit. The published crack-bridging capability of up to 2.0 mm means the cured film can accommodate normal thermal and shrinkage movement and bridge fine cracking in the substrate without splitting, which is essential on suspended slabs, roofs and decks that flex and move in service. Because the membrane is monolithic and seamless, it conforms to contoured and detailed substrates — drains, upstands, pipe penetrations and re-entrant corners — where sheet products require cut-and-patch detailing that is labour-intensive and leak-prone. The irreversible chemical cure is the other key technical point: once cured, the film is thermoset in behaviour and will not soften, re-melt or creep at the high deck and roof temperatures common across Indian climates. As with all liquid membranes, performance is governed by film build — the wet and dry film thickness achieved on site — so applicators must work to the consumption rate and number of coats given in the current Fosroc TDS, use the specified Nitoproof primer for the substrate, and protect the membrane before backfilling or overlaying with screed.

Limitations & considerations
- Performance depends entirely on achieving the correct on-site film thickness across the whole area — under-application leads to pinholes and early failure
- Requires a clean, sound, dry and correctly primed substrate; laitance, dust, oil and standing water must be removed first
- Application is weather-sensitive; it should not be applied to wet substrates or in conditions outside the Fosroc-stated temperature and humidity window
- As a liquid-applied film it generally needs mechanical protection (protection board or screed) before backfilling, traffic or overlaying
- Detailing at junctions, drains and penetrations needs a reinforcing scrim and skilled workmanship to avoid weak points
- Multiple Nitoproof grades exist; the correct grade, primer and coverage must be confirmed against the current country-specific Fosroc TDS
- Exact numeric data (chemical base, coverage, DFT, cure times, pack sizes) varies by region and revision and must be taken from the live Fosroc datasheet rather than assumed
Selection & best practice
Treat film thickness as the controlling variable. Start with a structurally sound, properly cured and surface-prepared concrete substrate — remove all laitance, dust, oil and curing-compound residues, make good blowholes and honeycombing, and ensure the surface is dry within Fosroc’s stated limits. Apply the Nitoproof primer specified for that substrate, then build the membrane to the consumption rate and number of coats in the current Fosroc TDS, checking wet-film thickness with a comb gauge as you go and lapping each pass into the last to keep the film continuous. Reinforce all upstands, internal corners, movement joints, drains and pipe penetrations with the recommended scrim and detailing before the main field coats. Allow each coat to cure as directed, then protect the finished membrane with protection board or a screed before any backfilling, foot or vehicle traffic, tiling or further trades. Always run a flood/water test on roofs, decks and wet areas before covering the membrane, and keep records of batch numbers and applied quantities for QA.

How we position Fosroc Nitoproof 1000
Within the Fosroc range, Nitoproof 1000 belongs to the liquid-applied Nitoproof family and sits alongside related membranes such as Nitoproof 600 (a one-coat liquid-applied elastomeric membrane), the polyurethane-based Nitoproof 800 and the heavier roof-grade options, while the cementitious Brushbond range and Proofex sheet membranes cover other parts of Fosroc’s waterproofing portfolio. Where Nitoproof 1000 is specified for below-ground tanking, it is commonly used with appropriate Fosroc primers and protection systems, and it pairs naturally with Conplast integral admixtures, Renderoc repair mortars and Nitoseal/Thioflex joint sealants on the same project. Compared with rival systems, credible alternatives an Indian consultant might evaluate include Sika’s liquid-applied and PU membranes (for example the Sikalastic and SikaProof ranges), MBS (MYK Schomburg) AQUAFIN and elastomeric coatings, Dr. Fixit’s Torchshield and acrylic/PU membranes from Pidilite, and STP’s bituminous and PU membrane systems. The honest positioning is that Nitoproof 1000 competes as a seamless, flexible, fully bonded liquid membrane rather than the cheapest dampproofing or the simplest sheet product: its strengths are crack-bridging, seamless detailing and heat-stable cure, while its performance is highly dependent on substrate preparation and on-site film build. For value-engineering exercises, Space Arc Engineering can compare Nitoproof 1000 against these alternatives on a like-for-like basis using the current manufacturer datasheets, so the chosen system matches the exposure, movement and warranty requirements of the specific structure.
