What is it?

A pressure-sensitive, self-adhesive jointing tape supplied as part of the Fosroc Proofex pre-applied waterproofing membrane system. It bonds and seals laps where one membrane meets another, most often where Proofex Engage meets a PVC sheet membrane such as Proofex Alkorplan.

Where is it used?

Below-grade and water-excluding structures: basement rafts and retaining walls, lift pits, tunnels, podium decks, water-retaining tanks and other tanked/cast-in-situ membrane systems where a continuous, watertight membrane lap is required.

Why use it?

It delivers a fast, cold-applied, fully bonded lap seal without torching or wet adhesives, restoring membrane continuity at overlaps, transitions and tie-ins so the waterproofing barrier stays unbroken at its most vulnerable points.

How is it applied?

Surfaces are cleaned and dried, the release liner is peeled, and the tape is applied over the membrane lap then firmly rolled/pressed to wet out the adhesive and exclude air, forming a continuous sealed joint along the overlap.

About Fosroc Proofex Adhesive Tape 101

Fosroc Proofex Adhesive Tape 101 is an accessory product within the Fosroc Proofex family of pre-applied and sheet waterproofing membranes. On any membrane waterproofing job the sheet itself is only as good as its joints, and the lap is where leaks begin. Tape 101 exists to solve exactly that problem: it provides a self-adhesive, cold-applied strip that bonds across a membrane overlap to form a secure, watertight lap, including transitions between dissimilar membranes such as the Proofex Engage cast-in-situ membrane and Proofex Alkorplan flexible PVC sheet. In practice it is the detailing component that keeps a tanked structure continuous where rolls meet, where one membrane type hands over to another, and where the main membrane’s own factory selvedge cannot be used. The parent Proofex Engage system is a pre-applied membrane that mechanically interlocks with poured concrete, carries a self-adhesive selvedge along one edge for sealed laps, and is supported by a comprehensive auxiliary range, of which the adhesive tapes, detail strips, L-sections and corner pieces form the detailing kit. For contractors, consultants and waterproofing applicators across Delhi NCR and Pan-India working on basements, tunnels, lift pits and tanked podiums, Tape 101 is a small-cost, high-consequence item: specifying and installing it correctly is what converts a collection of membrane sheets into one continuous, defect-free waterproof envelope. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor alongside the full Proofex membrane system so the membrane, tape and ancillaries are sourced as one compatible package rather than mixed across brands.

The technical insight

Tape 101 is a pressure-sensitive, self-adhesive jointing tape: a carrier film coated with a tacky adhesive, protected by a peel-off release liner, applied cold by hand. Unlike a torch-on bitumen lap or a solvent-welded PVC seam, it needs no heat, no flame and no curing time, which makes it suited to occupied sites, gas-protection zones and membranes that cannot be welded to each other. Its key role is as a bridging/transition seal: PVC sheet membranes such as Proofex Alkorplan are normally hot-air or solvent welded to themselves, but they cannot be welded to a polyethylene/polypropylene pre-applied membrane like Proofex Engage. Tape 101 provides the chemically compatible adhesive bond that ties these two different systems together and reinstates a single waterproof plane. Because the bond is adhesive rather than mechanical, performance is entirely dependent on substrate preparation: surfaces must be clean, dry, dust-free and firmly supported, and the tape must be rolled down hard so the adhesive fully wets the membrane. It is a detailing accessory, not a standalone membrane, and it should always be specified, lapped and pressure-rolled in line with the current Fosroc Proofex Engage / Proofex Alkorplan technical data sheets and method statement. Exact peel/shear adhesion figures, service-temperature window and lap dimensions should be confirmed against the current TDS before specification, as Fosroc updates the auxiliary range periodically.

Where it is used

  • Sealing laps and overlaps between rolls of pre-applied / sheet membrane to maintain continuity
  • Forming the transition joint between Proofex Engage and Proofex Alkorplan (PVC) membrane systems
  • Detailing and lap-sealing at basement raft-to-wall and wall-to-wall junctions
  • Membrane jointing in lift pits, water tanks and other water-retaining structures
  • Tunnel and cut-and-cover waterproofing membrane laps
  • Podium-deck and buried-roof membrane overlap sealing
  • Tie-ins and patch detailing where a continuous membrane lap is required without heat welding

Key advantages

  • Cold-applied and self-adhesive – no torch, flame or naked heat required, improving site safety
  • Bridges dissimilar membranes (e.g. polyolefin pre-applied membrane to PVC sheet) that cannot be welded together
  • Fast to install – peel the liner, position and roll down, with no curing or drying wait
  • Part of a single-source Fosroc Proofex system, ensuring chemical compatibility between membrane and tape
  • Two roll widths (60 mm and 100 mm) allow the tape to be matched to narrow laps or wider detailing
  • Long 33 m rolls reduce joints and waste on long continuous laps
  • Supports gas-resistant / tanked basement systems where joint integrity is critical

Limitations & considerations

  • An accessory only – it seals laps and does not function as a standalone waterproofing membrane
  • Adhesion is highly dependent on a clean, dry, dust- and laitance-free substrate; damp or contaminated surfaces compromise the bond
  • Must be firmly pressure-rolled to wet out the adhesive; insufficient pressure leaves a weak lap
  • Not a replacement for welded seams where the membrane manufacturer specifies hot-air or solvent welding within the same membrane
  • Cold/wet weather and low surface temperatures can reduce initial tack and bond development
  • Compatibility is intended within the Fosroc Proofex system; cross-brand membrane combinations should be verified before use
  • Published peel/shear values, service temperature and minimum lap width must be confirmed against the current Fosroc TDS

Selection & best practice

Always treat Tape 101 as a detailing accessory governed by the parent membrane’s method statement. Prepare the lap zone so it is clean, dry and free of dust, laitance, oil and standing water; on the Proofex Engage / PVC transition, ensure both surfaces are sound and supported. Cut tape to length, peel the release liner progressively, position it centrally over the lap, and immediately roll or press it down firmly along its full length to wet out the adhesive and expel trapped air – the bond is made by pressure, not just contact. Maintain the minimum lap/overlap and any primer requirement stated in the current Fosroc Proofex Engage and Proofex Alkorplan TDS, protect completed joints from traffic and ponding until the system is backfilled or screeded, and inspect every lap before covering. For below-grade Grade 3 / habitable basements, combine taped laps with the system’s detail strips, L-sections and corner pieces and record the joints as part of the QA hold points.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Proofex Adhesive Tape 101 a waterproofing membrane on its own?
No. It is an accessory within the Fosroc Proofex system used to seal laps and joints between membranes. It maintains the continuity of the main membrane (such as Proofex Engage or Proofex Alkorplan) but is not specified as a standalone waterproof barrier.
What is Tape 101 mainly used for?
It forms a secure, watertight lap between membranes, including the transition joint between Proofex Engage pre-applied membrane and Proofex Alkorplan PVC sheet membrane, which cannot be welded directly to each other.
What sizes does it come in?
It is supplied in two roll widths – 60 mm and 100 mm – with a roll length of 33 m, letting installers match narrow laps or wider detailing runs.
Does it need heat or a torch to apply?
No. It is a cold-applied, self-adhesive tape. You clean and dry the surface, peel the release liner, position the tape over the lap and roll it down firmly. There is no flame, no curing wait and no mixing.
Can I use it to weld PVC sheet membrane seams?
No. PVC-to-PVC seams of membranes like Proofex Alkorplan are hot-air or solvent welded per the membrane TDS. Tape 101’s role is the adhesive transition/lap where welding is not possible, such as joining the PVC membrane to a polyolefin pre-applied membrane.
What governs a good bond?
Substrate preparation and pressure. The lap surfaces must be clean, dry and dust-free, and the tape must be pressure-rolled to wet out the adhesive and expel air. A damp or contaminated lap or light hand pressure will give a weak, leak-prone joint.
Can Space Arc supply it with the full Proofex system in India?
Yes. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies Tape 101 together with Proofex Engage, Proofex Alkorplan and the detail strips, L-sections and corner pieces so the whole compatible system is sourced from one supplier.

How we position Fosroc Proofex Adhesive Tape 101

Proofex Adhesive Tape 101 should be specified as the jointing accessory inside a complete Fosroc Proofex tanking system rather than as a product chosen in isolation. Its natural companions are Proofex Engage (the pre-applied, concrete-bonding membrane), Proofex Alkorplan (the flexible PVC sheet membrane it bridges to), and the rest of the auxiliary range – Proofex Engage Detail Strip, Proofex L Section, internal/external Corner Pieces and Proofex LM / LM Mesh liquid detailing – which together close out roll ends, cut edges and complex geometry. For liquid-applied or blindside detailing on the same projects, Fosroc Nitoproof and Proofex Total sit alongside this system. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives at the membrane-and-accessory level include Sika (Sikaplan PVC membranes and SikaProof pre-applied systems with their own jointing tapes), MBS (MYK Arment) membrane and tape systems, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) sheet membrane accessories, and STP Limited self-adhesive and PVC membrane ranges. The important engineering point is single-system compatibility: a lap tape, primer and membrane are designed and tested together, so mixing a tape from one manufacturer with another brand’s membrane is not advisable. Where a project is already built around Fosroc Proofex, Tape 101 is the correct, manufacturer-matched choice; where it is built around Sika, MBS, Dr. Fixit or STP, the equivalent in-system jointing tape from that manufacturer should be used instead. Space Arc Engineering can advise on the right Proofex configuration and supply the matched components across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
