Fosroc Renderoc LA60
High-performance, free-flowing, low-alkali micro-concrete for flowable structural repair of reinforced concrete in thicknesses of 25-300 mm.
What is it?
A single-component, free-flowing low-alkali micro-concrete based on hydraulic cements, graded aggregates (3 mm max) and additives that impart controlled dual expansion. It is mixed on site with clean water only and conforms to BS EN 1504-3 Class R4.
Where is it used?
Reinstatement of reinforced concrete in restricted-access or heavily-reinforced sections — bridge piers and pier caps, beams, columns, soffits, tunnel linings, marine and effluent structures, and ASR-affected concrete.
Why use it?
Its self-compacting, free-flowing nature fills congested formwork and tight sections without vibration, while the low alkali content, low permeability and chloride-free formulation protect embedded steel and resist carbonation and chloride ingress.
How is it applied?
Substrate is cut back, cleaned and saturated; exposed steel is primed with Nitoprime Zincrich Plus; formwork is fixed; the powder is force-mixed with 3.4-3.7 L water per 25 kg bag and poured or pumped into the formwork within 30 minutes, then cured with Concure WB.
About Fosroc Renderoc LA60
Fosroc Renderoc LA60 is a high-performance, free-flowing micro-concrete engineered for the structural repair and reinstatement of reinforced concrete where access is restricted or reinforcement is congested. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Renderoc range of concrete repair systems and is the flowable, pour-or-pump grade designed for larger-volume repairs that hand-applied mortars cannot economically handle. Supplied as a one-pack powder requiring only the site addition of clean water, it removes the batching errors associated with multi-component systems and gives a consistent, factory-controlled mix every time.
The material is formulated from selected hydraulic cements, carefully graded aggregates with a 3 mm maximum particle size, and performance additives. A dual expansion system compensates for shrinkage in both the plastic and hardened states, so the cured repair stays in intimate contact with the parent concrete and the reinforcement. Because the binder chemistry is deliberately low in alkali, Renderoc LA60 minimises the risk of triggering alkali-silica reaction (ASR) — which makes it one of the preferred choices for repairing concrete already affected by ASR. It is chloride-free and alkaline in nature, so it actively protects embedded steel and re-establishes the passivating environment around rebar.
For Indian contractors, consultants and asset owners, the appeal of Renderoc LA60 lies in its combination of placeability and durability. The self-compacting consistency means it flows around congested cages and into deep soffit pockets, displacing air and eliminating honeycombing without any need for poker vibration — a significant advantage when repairing the underside of bridge decks or inside narrow column jackets. At the same time it delivers high compressive strength, low permeability and excellent resistance to carbon dioxide and chlorides, addressing the two most common causes of reinforcement corrosion in Indian infrastructure: carbonation in urban environments and chloride attack in coastal and de-iced structures. It conforms to BS EN 1504-3 Class R4 and the UK Highways England Specification for Highway Works, and is compatible with cathodic protection systems, making it suitable for both routine remediation and specification-driven rehabilitation contracts.
The technical insight
Renderoc LA60 is a Class R4 repair concrete under BS EN 1504-3, the highest structural class, and is placed at a remarkably low water:powder ratio of around 0.148 (3.4-3.7 litres of water per 25 kg bag, water:cement below 0.45) — this low water demand is what drives its low permeability and high strength while still achieving a free-flowing consistency that travels over 750 mm in roughly 7-10 seconds in a flow trough. The key engineering distinction versus standard concrete is the controlled heat of hydration: it permits placement in a single lift from 25 mm right up to 300 mm thick without the thermal cracking that plagues conventional micro-concretes in deep pours. Its dual (plastic + hardened) expansion mechanism, combined with the chloride-free, low-alkali binder, is what lets it both prevent shrinkage debonding and avoid promoting ASR in susceptible aggregates.
Where it is used

Key advantages
- Free-flowing, self-compacting consistency fills congested and restricted sections without vibration, eliminating honeycombing
- Single-pack powder needing only clean water on site — no on-site batching of multiple components
- Wide single-lift thickness range of 25-300 mm thanks to controlled heat of hydration
- Dual expansion system compensates for plastic and hardened shrinkage, maintaining bond
- Low alkali content minimises the risk of alkali-silica reaction, suitable for ASR-affected concrete
- Chloride-free and alkaline, re-passivating and protecting embedded steel reinforcement
- Low permeability gives strong resistance to carbon dioxide and chloride ingress
- Conforms to BS EN 1504-3 Class R4 and Highways England specification; compatible with cathodic protection
Limitations & considerations
- Strictly a flowable, formwork-and-pour/pump system — not designed for hand-applied vertical or overhead patch repairs (use Renderoc HB-series for trowel work)
- Requires properly fixed, watertight formwork, which adds time and cost versus hand-applied mortars
- Should not be used to reinstate horizontal surfaces left unrestrained (untopped) during cure
- A forced-action mixer is essential; free-fall mixers and part-bag mixing must not be used
- Must be placed within about 30 minutes of mixing, limiting batch sizes in hot Indian conditions
- Should not be applied below 3 degC and falling, or where exposed to moving water during application
- Exposed steel and substrate require correct preparation and priming (e.g. Nitoprime Zincrich Plus) for full performance
- Curing membrane such as Concure WB is needed to prevent rapid drying and plastic cracking
Selection & best practice
Cut back the defective concrete to a minimum 10 mm square edge and expose corroded steel fully around its circumference; grit-blast steel to bright metal and apply a full coat of Nitoprime Zincrich Plus, allowing it to dry. Saturate the prepared substrate with clean water and remove any standing water immediately before placing. Fix robust, watertight formwork with a pour point and air-release provision. Mix one full 25 kg bag with 3.4-3.7 litres of clean water in a forced-action pan mixer or drill-and-paddle for 2-3 minutes to a smooth consistency, passing the mix through a coarse screen. Pour or pump continuously into the lowest point of the formwork, working within 30 minutes; for deep pours keep within the 25-300 mm range per lift. After striking formwork, cure all exposed faces with Concure WB or polythene sheeting. Never mix part bags and never use free-fall mixers.
