What is it?

A family of six PCE-based superplasticizers (MasterCO2re 1000, 3602, 3700, 3850, 5700 and 5800) built on Master Builders Solutions’ Intelligent Cluster System (ICS) chemistry, which stages polymer release over time so low-clinker and composite cements deliver the workability, pumpability and strength gain of a conventional cement.

Where is it used?

Ready-mixed concrete plants, precast and manufactured-concrete-product (MCP) facilities that are moving from CEM I-type high-clinker cement to blended/composite cements (EN 197-1 and EN 197-5 categories) as part of decarbonisation targets — currently rolled out by MBS across the UK, Germany and Spain.

Why use it?

Reducing the clinker factor in cement is the single biggest lever for cutting concrete’s carbon footprint (clinker is roughly a tenth of concrete’s volume but accounts for up to 90% of its CO2), yet low-clinker mixes are historically harder to control — sluggish slump retention, unpredictable strength gain and higher segregation risk. MasterCO2re’s ICS chemistry is engineered specifically to close that performance gap.

How is it applied?

Dosed at the batching plant into the concrete mix exactly like a conventional PCE superplasticizer, via the plant’s admixture dispensing system, with the specific grade (1000 through 5800) selected to match the cement type, required workability window and application — ready-mix, precast or MCP.

About Master Builders Solutions MasterCO2re

MasterCO2re is not a single product but a technology platform — six grades of PCE (polycarboxylic ether) superplasticizer that Master Builders Solutions built around what it calls the Intelligent Cluster System, or ICS. The pitch is narrow and specific: as cement producers cut clinker content to lower embodied carbon — shifting from CEM I to CEM II/C-M, CEM VI and other composite cements richer in limestone, slag or fly ash — concrete producers run into a real problem. Blended cements hydrate differently, absorb superplasticizer polymers at different rates, and tend to lose workability faster and gain strength less predictably than straight OPC. Standard superplasticizers, tuned for high-clinker cement, don’t always compensate well. ICS chemistry addresses this by releasing its dispersing polymers in two stages: a portion goes to work immediately for initial water reduction, while the remainder is held back and released progressively to sustain workability, control rheology and support strength development as the low-clinker matrix hydrates. Grades 3850 and 5800 are certified to BS EN 934-2 as Type 3.1 and 3.2 superplasticizers, are formulated chloride-free, and are stated to hold workability for up to two hours without retarding set — figures MBS has published for those two grades specifically.

For an Indian audience, the honest framing matters more than the marketing copy. MasterCO2re is a genuine, currently-marketed MBS product line — not a concept product — but as of the technical data sheets and regional sites we reviewed, it is being rolled out through MBS’s UK, German and Spanish operations, built around European cement classifications (EN 197-1/197-5). It does not yet appear in Master Builders Solutions India’s published admixture range, which today runs through MasterGlenium SKY, MasterEase, MasterMatrix, MasterPolyheed and related lines for PPC, PSC and composite-cement work under IS 269 and IS 16415. We’re covering MasterCO2re on this page because Indian ready-mix and precast producers piloting higher-SCM-replacement cements for green-building or carbon-accounting commitments are increasingly asking about it, and because Space Arc, as an authorised MBS distributor, is the right channel to chase down formal India availability, landed pricing and local dosage validation before anyone specifies it on a live project.

The technical insight

The ICS mechanism is best understood as a controlled-release system rather than a single chemistry. Conventional PCE superplasticizers rely on comb-polymer side chains that adsorb onto cement particles and create steric hindrance, dispersing the flocculated cement grains released by mixing. In a low-clinker or high-SCM cement, the surface chemistry and particle-size distribution differ enough from pure clinker that adsorption kinetics shift — polymers can be consumed too fast by fines, or dispersion can start strong and fade quickly as hydration products form. MBS describes ICS as using “finely tuned chemical structures of diverse clusters” so that only part of the available polymer disperses immediately (governing initial slump and water reduction), while the rest remains available in solution and releases in a delayed, controlled manner to counter the faster slump loss typical of composite cements. In practical terms this is what lets a 3850 or 5800 grade quote workability retention of up to two hours without needing a separate retarder — the chemistry itself is doing the timing, not an additive set-control mechanism layered on top.

Where it is used

  • Ready-mixed concrete producers transitioning batching plants from CEM I to composite/blended cements (CEM II/C-M, CEM VI) under EN 197-5
  • Precast and manufactured-concrete-product (MCP) lines needing reliable early strength and mould-turnaround from lower-clinker mixes (MasterCO2re 5700, 5800)
  • Self-compacting and rheoplastic ready-mix concrete where fluid consistency must be held without segregation in low-clinker formulations
  • High-range water reduction for low-clinker concrete where standard PCE dosing under-performs (MasterCO2re 1000)
  • Infrastructure and structural concrete programmes tied to embodied-carbon targets that require a documented clinker-reduction strategy
  • Concrete producers running trial batches to benchmark composite-cement performance ahead of a full plant conversion
  • Technical benchmarking by Indian consultants and EPCs evaluating global low-carbon-admixture technology for future GRIHA/IGBC or carbon-accounting pilots
  • Precast producers needing lower mixing-time and improved rheology from a chloride-free water reducer (MasterCO2re 3602)

Key advantages

  • Purpose-engineered for composite/low-clinker cements rather than a standard PCE superplasticizer applied to a problem it wasn’t designed for
  • Staged (two-phase) polymer release gives workability retention up to two hours on the 3850 grade without retarding set, per MBS’s published data
  • Chloride-free formulation on the EN 934-2-certified grades (3850, 5800), suitable for reinforced and prestressed work where chloride limits apply
  • Lower-viscosity rheology reported by MBS versus competing superplasticizers, easing pumping and placement in fluid low-clinker mixes
  • Six-grade range lets a plant match chemistry to application — HRWR, general-purpose, precast-tuned, or EN 934-2-certified — rather than one product for everything
  • Backed by MBS’s global ICS R&D and its published EN 197-1/197-5 cement-compatibility work, not a repackaged legacy formulation
  • Directly supports a measurable clinker-reduction and CO2 strategy, which is increasingly a procurement requirement on large infrastructure and green-building tenders
  • Part of a single-brand MBS admixture ecosystem, so specifiers already using MasterGlenium or MasterMatrix have one technical relationship to manage

Limitations & considerations

  • Not currently listed in Master Builders Solutions India’s published admixture range — India availability, landed pricing, import lead time and local compliance paperwork must be confirmed with MBS/Space Arc before it is specified on any Indian project
  • Published performance data (workability retention, EN 934-2 classification, chloride-free status) is documented for the 3850 and 5800 grades specifically; MBS’s public technical sheets do not disclose dosage rate, specific gravity or pack size for the range, so this page does not invent those figures
  • Developed and validated against European EN 197-1/197-5 cement categories (CEM I-CEM VI); performance with Indian OPC 43/53, PPC or PSC cements under IS 269 and IS 1489 is not documented in any source we reviewed and would need site trials, not assumption
  • As with any high-range PCE chemistry, real-world performance is cement- and aggregate-specific — plant trial batches with the actual site materials are non-negotiable, ICS or not
  • Aimed at plant-dosed ready-mix, precast and MCP production, not site-level hand-dosing or small-batch work
  • Likely to carry a cost premium over standard PCE superplasticizers already stocked in India, given the specialised two-stage polymer engineering — a cost-benefit case needs clinker-reduction and CO2-reporting value attached to justify it, not workability alone

Selection & best practice

Treat MasterCO2re as a technology conversation before it’s a purchase order. If a client or consultant is asking about it specifically, start by clarifying whether the actual requirement is “an ICS superplasticizer by name” or “reliable performance from a low-clinker/high-SCM cement mix” — the latter can often be solved today with MBS India’s existing MasterGlenium SKY, MasterEase or MasterMatrix range, which are stocked, dosage-documented and validated against Indian cements. Where MasterCO2re genuinely is the ask (typically carbon-accounting-driven infrastructure or export-linked projects benchmarked against European specs), route the enquiry through Space Arc’s MBS account team to confirm current India import status, minimum order quantities, and whether MBS can supply project-specific technical support and trial-batch dosage recommendations for the target cement. Never publish or promise a dosage rate, specific gravity or pack size for MasterCO2re without that written confirmation from MBS — the manufacturer’s own public technical sheets do not disclose those figures for this range, and guessing on an admixture dosage is not a risk worth taking on a structural pour.

Industry use cases

European ready-mix concrete

Batching plants converting from CEM I to CEM II/C-M or CEM VI composite cements use the 3700/3850 grades to hold workability and strength consistency through the switch.

Precast and MCP production

Precast producers use MasterCO2re 5700/5800 to get predictable early strength and mould-turnaround from lower-clinker mixes without adding a separate accelerator.

Infrastructure carbon accounting

Contractors on projects with embodied-carbon reporting requirements evaluate ICS chemistry as part of a documented clinker-reduction strategy for structural concrete.

Indian technical benchmarking

Consultants and large EPCs preparing for GRIHA/IGBC low-carbon-concrete pilots or export-linked specs reference MasterCO2re as the global state of the art, while sourcing India-available equivalents (MasterGlenium SKY, MasterEase) for current work.

R&D / plant trials

Cement and admixture technologists use the range to trial higher-SCM-replacement mixes before committing a plant’s standard mix design to a lower clinker factor.

Frequently asked questions

Can Space Arc supply MasterCO2re in India right now?
Not off the shelf — it isn’t currently part of Master Builders Solutions India’s published product range. Space Arc can raise a project-specific enquiry with MBS to confirm import availability, lead time and pricing, but treat this as a request to chase down, not a stocked item.
What actually makes ICS different from a normal PCE superplasticizer?
A standard PCE releases its dispersing polymer more or less all at once. ICS chemistry deliberately holds part of the polymer back and releases it progressively, which is specifically meant to counter the faster slump loss and less predictable strength gain that low-clinker/composite cements often show versus straight OPC.
Will it work with Indian OPC 43/53, PPC or PSC cement?
MBS’s published technical data validates MasterCO2re against European EN 197-1/197-5 cement categories, not Indian IS 269/IS 1489 cements. Nobody should assume direct transferability — a plant trial batch with the actual site cement is required before it’s used on Indian work.
What dosage should we use?
MBS has not published a dosage rate in the public technical sheets we reviewed for this range. Any dosage recommendation has to come in writing from MBS technical support for the specific grade and cement, not from a generic estimate.
Does switching to MasterCO2re mean redesigning our mix?
Potentially yes if the point is to actually reduce the clinker factor — the admixture is one part of a mix-design change that also involves the cement type itself, not a drop-in replacement for your current superplasticizer at the same cement.
What’s a practical alternative if we need something similar today?
For a locally stocked, India-validated PCE superplasticizer, MBS’s own MasterGlenium SKY or MasterEase ranges are the direct route through Space Arc today. If a Fosroc-brand option is preferred, their Auramix PCE range covers general high-performance superplasticizing, though it is not marketed as a low-clinker-specific ICS-type chemistry — it’s a workable substitute for the superplasticizer function, not a like-for-like of the low-clinker engineering.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterCO2re

Inside the MBS family, MasterCO2re sits one tier more specialised than the admixtures Space Arc already moves in India — MasterGlenium SKY (general high-performance PCE superplasticizer), MasterEase (viscosity-reduction technology), MasterMatrix (rheology control) and MasterPolyheed (chloride-free water reducer). Those four cover the great majority of Indian ready-mix and precast dosing needs today and are the practical starting point for any enquiry, since they’re stocked, documented for Indian cements, and dosage-supported by MBS India. MasterCO2re is the layer above that: a purpose-built answer to a specific, largely European regulatory and market pressure — hitting embodied-carbon targets by cutting clinker content without losing concrete performance. As India’s own low-carbon-cement push (composite cements under IS 16415, higher fly ash/slag replacement) matures, expect MBS to eventually localise something in this ICS family; until then, this page exists so Space Arc’s clients can have an informed conversation about it rather than a vague one. Where a client wants a similar low-clinker-tolerant chemistry outside the MBS ecosystem, Fosroc’s Auramix PCE range is the most credible named alternative on general superplasticizing performance, though it should be evaluated on its own published dosage and cement-compatibility data rather than assumed equivalent to ICS technology.
