Master Builders Solutions MasterMatrix FC 500
A powder VMA that keeps tremie, bored-pile and underwater concrete cohesive under hydrostatic pressure, without sacrificing flow or final strength.
What is it?
A powder-form Viscosity Modifying Agent (VMA) built from water-soluble copolymers that form molecular aggregates in the mix water, raising its viscosity so fresh concrete resists bleeding, segregation and washout even when highly flowable.
Where is it used?
Bored cast-in-situ piles, tremie-placed foundation concrete, diaphragm walls, underwater and marine concreting, and self-compacting or gap-graded mixes prone to instability.
Why use it?
It stops water extrusion and cement washout under hydrostatic head or water contact, protecting pile integrity — a problem ordinary superplasticized SCC alone cannot reliably solve.
How is it applied?
Dosed at 4.5-15 g per litre of mixing water, roughly 0.2-0.8% by cement weight for a typical pile mix, added with the dry materials at batching for best dispersion, with late site addition possible after trials.
About Master Builders Solutions MasterMatrix FC 500
Bored pile foundations and underwater concreting are unforgiving disciplines — the concrete goes down a tremie pipe or under a column of water, often metres below the working platform, and nobody can vibrate it into place once it’s down the hole. If the mix bleeds, segregates, or lets water squeeze through it under hydrostatic pressure, you get honeycombed shafts, weak necking, or contaminated concrete at depth — defects that surface only during pile integrity testing, or years later. Delhi NCR’s deepening basements, metro shaft works and river-adjacent foundations are pushing more contractors into exactly this territory, where a standard PCE-superplasticized SCC mix, however well designed, isn’t stable enough on its own.
MasterMatrix FC 500 from Master Builders Solutions is built for that gap. It’s a whitish powder VMA of water-soluble copolymers that, once mixed in, form molecular aggregates thickening the water phase itself rather than adding bulk fines — so the concrete stays flowable at the pump but locks its water and paste against extrusion and washout once static in the hole. Space Arc supplies it to Delhi NCR piling, marine and RMC contractors alongside its natural admixture partners — MasterGlenium for flow, MasterPozzolith for retardation on long pours, and MasterEase for workability retention — because a stable pile mix is a system decision, not a single-product fix. As with any VMA, we recommend trial batches with your specific OPC/PPC and aggregate combination before locking site dosage.
The technical insight
Conventional viscosity modifiers fall into two camps: biopolymer gums like welan gum, whose gel network can break down under intense shear, or mineral fillers such as fly ash or silica fume, which need larger dosages and add solid volume. MasterMatrix FC 500 works differently — its copolymer aggregates raise water-phase viscosity at gram-per-litre dose rates, and because the effect is shear-thinning, the concrete still flows and pumps normally under working shear but regains its cohesive, water-retentive structure the moment it’s at rest in the bore or underwater. That’s why the data sheet reports no measurable effect on setting time or hardened strength — you’re managing rheology at rest, not the cement chemistry.
Where it is used
- Bored cast-in-situ pile concrete placed by the tremie method
- Diaphragm walls and secant pile walls for metro and deep-basement excavations
- Underwater and marine concreting for piers, jetties and riverbed foundations
- Self-compacting concrete with low powder or fines content
- Flowable concrete using gap-graded or single-sized aggregates
- High water-cement ratio pumped concrete needing segregation control
- Concrete placed under high hydrostatic pressure in deep excavations
- Precast SCC production needing consistent rheology across raw-material variability
Key advantages
- Efficient at very low gram-per-litre dosage, unlike bulkier mineral-filler approaches
- Strong water retention that limits bleeding and segregation even in fluid, high w/c mixes
- Copolymer network resists cement and fines washout on contact with standing or moving water
- Shear-thinning behaviour keeps workability consistent regardless of mixing intensity or pump head
- Good temperature stability across normal site conditions
- No measurable effect on setting time or hardened compressive strength per the manufacturer’s data
- CE-marked and classified as a Viscosity Modifying Admixture under EN 934-2:T13
- Compatible with the wider MasterGlenium, MasterPozzolith, MasterEase and MasterCO2re admixture range
Limitations & considerations
- The verified data sheet carries EN 934-2 (European) certification — ask Space Arc or local MBS technical services for India-specific documentation before specifying on IS-code piling works
- It does not replace a superplasticizer; you still need a PCE admixture like MasterGlenium for flow and slump retention
- Powder form needs accurate small-quantity weighing and thorough dispersion at the plant, unlike a liquid drop-in dosed by pump
- Optimum dosage is job-specific — the wide 4.5-15 g/L range means trial mixes with your actual materials are essential, not optional
- Moisture-sensitive in storage; shelf life is 24 months unopened, only if kept frost-free between +5°C and +30°C
- A premium, purpose-built VMA — for non-critical or shallow foundation work, simpler stabilisation approaches may be more cost-effective
Selection & best practice
Run trial mixes with your actual site cement, water and aggregate before fixing the dosage — the 4.5-15 g/L window is wide because performance depends on mix proportions and temperature. Add MasterMatrix FC 500 with the dry components at the batching plant for the most even dispersion; reserve site addition for adjustment only, and re-check flow and segregation resistance after any change. Store bags off the ground, sealed, between +5°C and +30°C to protect the 24-month shelf life.

Industry use cases
Metro & deep-basement piling contractors
Dosed into bored pile tremie mixes to prevent water extrusion and honeycombing in loose, water-bearing Delhi NCR strata.
Marine & riverfront infrastructure
Used in underwater pier and jetty concreting where the mix must resist washout as it displaces standing water in the formwork.
RMC plants supplying SCC
Stabilises low-fines self-compacting mixes so batch-to-batch rheology stays consistent without over-relying on mineral filler.
Diaphragm wall & secant pile specialists
Maintains flowability through long tremie pours on deep excavation retaining walls without segregation at depth.
Precast & specialty concrete producers
Gives gap-graded or aggregate-lean mixes enough water retention to avoid bleed defects on exposed or architectural faces.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterMatrix FC 500
MasterMatrix FC 500 sits within the wider MasterMatrix VMA family and is meant to be used alongside, not instead of, the rest of the MBS system Space Arc stocks — MasterGlenium for flow, MasterPozzolith for set control, and MasterEase for workability retention. A complete admixture package beats mixing brands mid-mix on a critical pile pour. On the Fosroc side, the closest adjacent products are workability aids like Conplast SP430 and SCC modifiers such as Structuro — useful for general flowable concrete, but none is a direct, purpose-built powder VMA for tremie or underwater placement, so we haven’t listed a Fosroc equivalent here. A specifier chasing a lower-cost VMA route would more likely consider a welan-gum or mineral-filler stabilisation approach instead.
