Master Builders Solutions MasterPolyheed
A chloride-free, mid-range water-reducing admixture that keeps ready-mix concrete workable, pumpable and strong, engineered under BASF’s Master Builders Solutions range.
What is it?
A chloride-free, mid-range water-reducing concrete admixture from Master Builders Solutions (the former BASF Construction Chemicals range), formulated to cut mix water by roughly 5-15% without slowing setting or compromising strength gain.
Where is it used?
Ready-mix and batching plants, RMC trucks, and site-mixed concrete for flatwork, pumped concrete, pervious concrete, and mixes built around manufactured sand or other harsh aggregate combinations across Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.
Why use it?
It lets a concrete producer trim the water-cement ratio for higher strength and durability while keeping the mix workable enough to place, pump and finish on schedule, without introducing chlorides that could corrode reinforcement.
How is it applied?
Dispensed as a ready-to-use liquid directly into the concrete mixer, batching plant, transit mixer or on-site mixer, at the dosage recommended on the current technical data sheet for the target grade and slump; trial batching is advised before full-scale use.
About Master Builders Solutions MasterPolyheed
MasterPolyheed sits in the middle of the Master Builders Solutions water-reducer family, above normal-range lignosulfonate-type reducers and below the high-range polycarboxylate superplasticizers used for self-compacting or very high-strength mixes. It is formulated as a chloride-free, ready-to-use liquid built on modified polymer, including polycarboxylate-based, chemistry that disperses cement particles more efficiently than a conventional water reducer, so the concrete producer can pull roughly 5-15% of the mix water out of a design without losing slump on arrival at site. Globally the range spans several numbered grades, 900, 980, 997, 1020, 1025, 1720, 1725 and 1855, each tuned for a slightly different setting-time, strength-gain or slump-retention profile, and certified to ASTM C494 Type A or the dual Type A/F classification depending on the grade.
For Indian ready-mix operators and contractors, that mid-range positioning matters in practice. MasterPolyheed is dosed where a plain plasticizer would not give enough water reduction for the target strength, but a full high-range superplasticizer would be overkill, or unnecessarily expensive, for the slump class being poured. It is commonly specified for flatwork, pumped concrete, pervious or no-fines concrete, and mixes that lean on manufactured sand, increasingly common as natural river sand supply tightens across NCR and other Indian metros. Space Arc Engineering supplies MasterPolyheed as part of the wider Master Builders Solutions admixture, repair, flooring and waterproofing portfolio we carry pan-India, with technical dosage support for each project’s mix design.
The technical insight
Water-reducing admixtures work by adsorbing onto cement particles and giving them a like electrostatic, or steric for polycarboxylate-based chemistries, charge that keeps them dispersed instead of flocculating. The water trapped between flocculated cement clumps is released and becomes available to improve flow, so less total mixing water is needed to hit a given slump. ASTM C494 groups these products by performance: Type A admixtures must show measurable water reduction with no significant retardation, while Type F, high-range, admixtures must deliver at least 12% water reduction. MasterPolyheed’s mid-range grades sit across this boundary; the entry grades qualify as Type A, while several higher-performance grades are dual-certified Type A/F, giving a specifier room to move within one product family as the target strength class changes.
Where it is used
- Ready-mix concrete batching for M25 to M40 grade structural concrete
- Pumped concrete for high-rise columns, shear walls and slabs
- Flatwork, industrial floors, pavement-quality concrete and slabs-on-grade where finishing time matters
- Pervious or no-fines concrete for permeable pavements and stormwater applications
- Mixes built around manufactured sand (M-sand) or other harsh, angular aggregate combinations
- Precast and prestressed concrete elements needing controlled early strength
- Mass and mat foundations where slump retention over a longer haul or pour time is critical
- Concrete requiring durability upgrades through a lower water-cement ratio without changing cement content
Key advantages
- Chloride-free formulation, safe for use in reinforced and prestressed concrete without corrosion risk
- Cuts mix water roughly 5-15%, allowing a lower water-cement ratio for the same slump
- Improves workability and finishability, reducing labour time and cost on flatwork
- Compatible with manufactured sand and other harsh aggregate combinations increasingly used in India
- Available across multiple grades so dosage and performance can be matched to the target ASTM Type A or A/F requirement
- Supports higher early and later-age compressive strength versus a plain water reducer at equal cement content
- Ready-to-use liquid, simple to dispense at the batching plant with no on-site mixing required
- Backed by BASF’s decades-long global admixture research and manufacturing base
Limitations & considerations
- Not a substitute for a high-range superplasticizer where very high water reduction, such as self-compacting concrete or very low water-cement ratios, is the design target
- Performance is dosage- and mix-specific; trial batching with the actual site materials is essential before full-scale use
- Like all admixtures, incompatible or over-dosed use can cause excessive retardation or segregation, so it should be handled by a trained batching team
- India-specific technical data with exact dosage rate, specific gravity and pack sizes should be confirmed with Space Arc or Master Builders Solutions before finalizing a mix design, since regional formulations can vary
- Storage and shelf-life limits apply as with any liquid admixture, so stock rotation matters on long-running RMC contracts
- Effectiveness is sensitive to cement type and source; a mix approved with one cement brand should be re-validated if the cement source changes
Selection & best practice
Always run a trial batch with the project’s actual cement, aggregates and mixing water before committing MasterPolyheed to a live pour, since dosage that works with one cement source can behave differently with another. Add it to the mixing water or directly into the drum per the current technical data sheet’s sequence, never to dry cement. Keep dispensing equipment calibrated, and track slump loss over the expected haul time from plant to site, especially on Delhi NCR routes where traffic can extend transit well past the lab-tested window. For India-specific dosage and grade selection, loop in Space Arc’s technical team with the mix design before finalizing.

Industry use cases
Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) Plants
Batched into M25-M40 structural mixes to hit target slump at a lower water-cement ratio, improving strength consistency across truck loads.
High-Rise & Pumped Concrete
Used in column, shear-wall and slab pours where the concrete must stay pumpable through vertical pipeline runs on tall Delhi NCR residential and commercial towers.
Industrial & Pavement-Quality Flooring
Specified on flatwork and pavement-quality concrete where finishing time and surface quality matter as much as final strength.
M-Sand & Manufactured-Aggregate Mixes
Helps harsh, angular manufactured-sand mixes flow and finish acceptably as natural river sand becomes harder to source across NCR.
Precast & Prestressed Elements
Supports controlled early-strength gain for faster mould turnaround in precast yards.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterPolyheed
Within Space Arc’s Master Builders Solutions lineup, MasterPolyheed is the mid-range companion to the high-range MasterGlenium superplasticizers we also supply, and it complements the MasterEmaco repair mortars, MasterFlow grouts and MasterTop flooring systems already on our Master Builders Solutions portfolio pages, all backed by the same manufacturer and the same Space Arc technical desk. Where a project’s approved-vendor list calls for an alternative, Fosroc’s Conplast 212 is a genuine chloride-free mid-range water reducer in a similar performance band and is worth considering when lead time, plant familiarity or specification history favours Fosroc; we stock and support both brands so the choice can be made on project fit rather than availability.
Fosroc Conplast 212 — Choose Conplast 212 over MasterPolyheed when the project’s approved-vendor list specifies Fosroc, or when Fosroc’s chloride-free mid-range chemistry is already validated for the site’s cement source and trial mixes.
