What is it?

A two-component, pigmented PU resin coating built on aliphatic chemistry so it holds colour and gloss under direct sun instead of yellowing and chalking like standard aromatic epoxy or PU toppings.

Where is it used?

Exposed concrete floors, balconies and terraces; lab, workshop and office floors; and painted steel structures such as canopies, staircases and gantries sitting outdoors year-round.

Why use it?

Ordinary epoxy or economy PU floor paints amber within a season of Delhi NCR sun; this system resists that UV-driven yellowing while giving a seamless, chemical- and corrosion-resistant, anti-skid surface.

How is it applied?

Brush, roller or airless spray, in a minimum of two coats over a compatible MC-DUR primer, with the three factory-proportioned components (resin, pigment, hardener) hand-mixed on site in that order.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-DUR 215 UVR

MC-DUR 215 UVR is MC-Bauchemie’s UV-stable topcoat for its floor-coatings range: a two-component (three-part, since pigment is dosed separately from resin and hardener) polyurethane system meant to sit as the finish coat over primed concrete or steel. The resin side is aliphatic rather than the cheaper aromatic PU chemistry many economy coatings use, which is why it resists the yellowing and chalking that shows up on exposed concrete after a Delhi summer or two. Underneath that UV story it is still a proper protective coating: good adhesion to concrete, steel and masonry, resistance to diesel, dilute acids and alkalis and several organic solvents, and a dust-free, anti-skid, easy-to-clean finish suited to labs and offices as much as open balconies.

We position it as the go-to topcoat wherever a floor or steel element cannot hide under a roof: rooftop terraces, open car-park decks, external staircases, exposed RCC balconies, and steel canopies or gantries. It isn’t a heavy-duty, forklift-grade flooring system on its own — for that, a primer plus body coat plus this UVR topcoat is the correct build-up. Where the brief is “keep this exposed surface looking new and skid-safe for years,” this is the product we reach for.

The technical insight

UV stability comes from an aliphatic polyisocyanate rather than an aromatic one — aromatic PU is cheaper, but its molecular structure absorbs UV energy and breaks down into chromophores that show up as yellowing and chalk, while aliphatic PU resists that, which is why it’s reserved for topcoats rather than primers or body coats. The mixed system cures to Shore A hardness 50 at seven days, flexible enough to bridge minor substrate movement while resisting foot and light vehicular traffic.

Where it is used

  • Topcoat over MC-DUR or comparable primed concrete floors in labs, workshops and offices
  • Exposed RCC balconies, terraces and walkways under direct sun and rain
  • Anti-skid wearing course on open-to-sky ramps and parking decks
  • Protective UV topcoat over primed structural steel — staircases, canopies, gantries
  • Seamless, pigmented, dust-free flooring for showrooms and light-industrial offices
  • UV-protective topcoat over liquid-applied waterproofing membranes on rooftops
  • Refurbishment topcoat over old, chalked paint once stripped and primed

Key advantages

  • Aliphatic PU genuinely resists yellowing and chalking under Indian summer UV, unlike ordinary epoxy or aromatic PU that visibly ambers within months
  • Anti-skid, seamless, dust-free finish that’s easy to sweep and mop
  • Resists diesel oil, dilute acids and alkalis and numerous organic solvents
  • Bonds well to concrete, steel and masonry, so one product covers mixed-substrate projects
  • Workable cure schedule — recoat in 2-4 hours, initial hardness in about 16 hours, full cure in 7 days
  • Adds real corrosion protection on exposed steel, not just cosmetic colour
  • Factory-proportioned 4 kg and 20 kg kits reduce on-site dosing errors

Limitations & considerations

  • Application must stop above 35°C surface temperature or below 10°C ambient/substrate, narrowing the window on summer afternoons and winter mornings
  • It’s a topcoat, not a flooring build-up — at 85 microns DFT per coat it won’t fill irregularities like a self-levelling screed does
  • Substrate prep is non-negotiable: concrete needs above 25 N/mm² compressive strength and 1.5 N/mm² pull-off strength, so weak slabs need repair first
  • Pot life of only 30-40 minutes at 25°C leaves little margin for error in hot weather and needs a disciplined crew
  • Better suited to foot and light vehicular traffic than forklift-heavy floors, where a thicker trafficked system is the more honest call
  • Custom-shade tinting can mean a longer lead time than a stock colour, so shade selection should happen early

Selection & best practice

Get the substrate right before ordering: cure the concrete fully, strip old paint and release oils, patch honeycombs with a Nafuquick-range mortar, and confirm compressive and pull-off strength meet the datasheet minimums. Prime with a compatible MC-DUR primer at 150 g/m², then apply the two topcoats at right angles to even out roller marks. Mix only what can be applied within the pot life, keep air entrainment low, and stop work outside the 10°C-35°C window — a hot terrace slab in June is the most common reason site teams see pinholing.

Frequently asked questions

How many coats are needed?
A minimum of two coats at 85 microns DFT each, in perpendicular directions, for full coverage.
Can it go directly onto bare concrete?
No — start on a surface primed with a compatible MC-DUR primer at around 150 g/m².
Will it yellow like a normal epoxy or PU floor paint?
It’s formulated with aliphatic PU specifically to resist the yellowing and chalking aromatic PU and epoxy show under UV, though long-term colour retention still depends on coat thickness and site conditions.
What is the coverage per coat?
Roughly 150 grams per square metre per coat at 85 micron DFT.
Can it be used on steel as well as concrete?
Yes — it bonds well to concrete, steel and masonry and doubles as a corrosion-resistant coating on steel.
How soon can the floor be walked on?
Initial hardness in about 16 hours at 30°C, full cure in 7 days; recoating can happen after 2-4 hours.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-DUR 215 UVR

Within MC-Bauchemie’s own range, MC-DUR 215 UVR is meant to be specified alongside a matching MC-DUR primer rather than stand alone, and for full-depth industrial flooring rather than a topcoat, it sits below MC-Bauchemie’s heavier-duty epoxy and PU flooring builds. Where a project has already committed to a Fosroc waterproofing membrane and simply needs a UV-stable, trafficable protective topcoat over it, Fosroc’s Nitoproof UVR Topcoat is a genuine alternative worth pricing, particularly where the rest of the system is already Fosroc-specified.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoproof UVR Topcoat — A specifier might choose Nitoproof UVR Topcoat when the underlying waterproofing membrane and the rest of the roofing or terrace system are already Fosroc-specified, keeping a single-brand warranty over the UV-protective wearing coat.
