MC-Bauchemie MC-Grout HES
A rapid-hardening, non-shrink cementitious precision grout built for shutdowns and emergency machine-base pours where the plant cannot wait a full day for strength.
What is it?
A factory-blended, high early strength non-shrink cementitious precision grout from MC-Bauchemie, engineered to develop load-bearing strength within hours of pouring.
Where is it used?
Under machinery base plates, turbine and generator foundations, rolling-mill housings, precast equipment and bridge bearings where downtime must be measured in hours, not days.
Why use it?
It lets a plant return to service the same shift, hitting roughly 10 MPa in about four hours while staying fully non-shrink and free of bleed.
How is it applied?
Set up leak-tight formwork, mix to a fluid consistency, and pour continuously from one side so the grout self-levels and self-compacts under the plate without vibration.
About MC-Bauchemie MC-Grout HES
MC-Grout HES is MC-Bauchemie’s answer to the one problem that costs Indian plants the most money during a grouting job: waiting. Standard cementitious grouts are excellent, but they need overnight curing before equipment can carry load, and for a rolling mill, a turbine hall or a bottling line, an overnight stop is lost production. MC-Grout HES is formulated around a rapid-hardening binder system so that a foundation grouted at the start of a shutdown can often be recommissioned before the crew goes home. It arrives as a single pre-blended powder, so there is no site batching of aggregate, cement and additives, and no guesswork about the mix that governs whether the pour actually performs.
What makes it a precision grout, and not just a fast one, is that speed does not come at the cost of the fundamentals. The grout stays non-shrink through both the plastic and the hardened phase, generates zero bleed water, and flows freely enough to travel right across a base plate and fill every void beneath it. That combination of early strength plus dimensional stability is exactly what a machine seat needs, because a grout that gains strength quickly but shrinks away from the plate simply transfers load through a few high spots instead of the whole bearing area. For engineers and contractors working to a fixed restart deadline, it removes the usual trade-off between getting back online fast and getting the foundation right.
The technical insight
The high early strength comes from the binder chemistry rather than from simply adding water-reducers to an ordinary grout. Rapid-hardening formulations in this class use a fast-reacting cement system — rapid-hardening Portland cement, a calcium-aluminate blend, or a calcium sulphoaluminate binder — that hydrates far quicker than ordinary Portland cement, so useful strength appears in hours instead of overnight. Layered on top is a controlled expansion mechanism: a gas-producing or crystalline agent creates a slight positive volume change (in the region of 0 to +0.5 percent) while the grout is still plastic. That expansion pushes the grout up against the underside of the base plate and keeps it in intimate contact as it sets, which is why full bearing contact is maintained and no shrinkage gap forms. The flip side of a fast binder is a short working window, so the trade-off is a pot life of only about 15 to 20 minutes at 25 degrees C — the reason continuous, well-planned pouring matters far more here than with a conventional grout.
Where it is used
- Emergency re-grouting of machinery bases where production cannot stop overnight
- Fast-track installation and commissioning of new plant during tight shutdown windows
- Turbine and generator foundations in power plants with fixed restart deadlines
- Rolling-mill housing and drive re-grouting in steel plants
- Anchoring and bedding of precast plant equipment and structural connections
- Bridge-bearing replacement and re-bedding under traffic-management constraints
- Crane rail and sole-plate grouting where early load return is required
- General precision grouting under base plates needing high early strength
Key advantages
- Load-bearing strength in hours — roughly 10 MPa at 4 hours and 40 MPa at 24 hours
- Reaches around 50 MPa at 28 days, so early strength does not compromise the final grout
- Fully non-shrink through plastic and hardened phases, maintaining full base-plate contact
- Zero bleed water, so no weak laitance layer forms under the plate
- Self-levelling and self-compacting fluid consistency fills voids without vibration
- Factory pre-blended single powder removes site batching errors
- Free-flow behaviour lets it travel across large base plates from a single pour point
- Ideal for shutdowns and emergencies where same-shift return to service is the goal
Limitations & considerations
- Short pot life of about 15 to 20 minutes at 25 degrees C leaves little margin for delays
- Rapid setting demands rehearsed, continuous pouring and enough labour on hand
- Strength gain is temperature-sensitive — slower below 15 degrees C, accelerated above 35 degrees C
- Multi-bag pours must be sequenced carefully so the work is finished within the working window
- Formwork must be fully sealed and in place before mixing starts, as there is no time to fix leaks mid-pour
- Faster and typically costlier than standard grouts, so it is best reserved for genuine time-critical jobs
Selection & best practice
Plan the pour as a single continuous operation before opening a single bag. Build formwork that is fully leak-tight and, where possible, provide a head box on the pour side and a slightly higher level on the far side to encourage flow across the plate. Because the pot life is only 15 to 20 minutes, keep enough mixed material and manpower ready so the placement is uninterrupted; on multi-bag jobs, mix and pour in a steady rhythm rather than batching everything at once. Pour from one side only and let the grout displace air ahead of it — never work it from two directions or vibrate it, as that traps voids. Mind the ambient temperature: below about 15 degrees C strength gain slows noticeably, and above 35 degrees C the already-short working time shortens further, so pour in the cooler part of the day in Indian summers and use cool mixing water. Cure exposed edges promptly against moisture loss.

Industry use cases
Power generation
Re-grouting turbine and generator soleplates during a planned outage so the unit can be brought back online within the same shutdown window rather than losing an extra day of generation.
Steel plants
Emergency re-bedding of rolling-mill housings and drive bases where every hour of mill downtime is heavily costed and the line must resume quickly.
Manufacturing & FMCG
Fast installation and re-grouting of production machinery and packaging lines during weekend shutdowns, letting the plant restart on Monday without commissioning delays.
Infrastructure & bridges
Replacing and re-bedding bridge bearings under live traffic-management constraints, where early strength allows the structure to carry load again sooner.
Precast & industrial
Grouting anchor connections and equipment bases in precast yards and industrial fit-outs where a short cure time keeps the erection sequence moving.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-Grout HES
MC-Grout HES sits at the fast end of the machine-base grouting range. When the job is not time-critical, MC-Bauchemie’s standard MC-Grout family gives you the same non-shrink, high-flow precision grouting at a lower cost and with a comfortable working window, and for very fast, thin bedding the resin-based MC-DUR Grout is worth considering. Space Arc also stocks equivalent grouts from other brands we represent — Fosroc’s Conbextra range and Sika’s cementitious precision grouts — so we can match the right grout to your gap size, restart deadline and budget rather than forcing one product onto every situation. For deep base-plate gaps that need to be filled in a single free-flow pour, a high-flow grade may serve you better than a high-early grade.
Fosroc Conbextra HES — A specifier standardised on the Fosroc range, or one who wants an even faster early gain of around 25 MPa within two hours, may prefer Conbextra HES for the same fast-return-to-service machine-base work.
