What is it?

A solvent- and styrene-free, two-component epoxy acrylate chemical anchoring adhesive, mixed 10:1 by volume and dispensed from a cartridge and static mixer, reformulated specifically to perform in tropical ambient temperatures.

Where is it used?

Rebar dowelling, threaded rod and bolt fixing into concrete, solid masonry and steel; retrofit anchoring, façade brackets, railings, machine bases and MEP hangers on active construction and industrial sites across India.

Why use it?

Delivers medium-to-high structural load capacity with ETA approval for cracked concrete, keeps working and cure times predictable through Indian summer heat, and carries WRAS drinking-water certification for potable-water-adjacent fixings.

How is it applied?

Injected from a 380 ml or 550 ml cartridge through a manual or battery caulking gun and static mixer nozzle into a cleaned, dust-free drilled hole; the bar or bolt is inserted with a slight twist and left undisturbed through the temperature-specific cure period.

About Sika AnchorFix®-2+ Tropical

Anchoring on an Indian job site rarely happens at a comfortable 20°C. A crew fixing rebar dowels or threaded rods into a slab at midday in Gurugram or Nagpur is often working in 35-40°C ambient heat, and that is exactly the gap Sika AnchorFix-2+ Tropical is built to close. It is a solvent- and styrene-free, two-component epoxy acrylate anchoring adhesive, mixed 10:1 by volume and dispensed from a standard 380 ml or 550 ml cartridge through a caulking gun and static mixer, reformulated from the base AnchorFix-2+ so its open time and cure schedule stay workable rather than collapsing once site temperatures climb well past 30°C.

For Space Arc’s structural retrofit, façade-fixing, and industrial-anchoring clients across Delhi NCR, that heat tolerance is the real reason to specify the Tropical variant over the standard grade. The chemistry sits between fast-setting acrylates and higher-strength epoxies, giving enough compressive and bond strength for genuine structural anchoring — including cracked concrete under European Technical Assessment — while curing quickly enough that a drilling-and-fixing crew can move through dozens of anchor points in a single shift instead of waiting hours between installation and load. On paper it reads as a chemical anchor; on site it behaves as a practical answer to India’s climate rather than an imported product forced to work here.

The technical insight

Epoxy acrylate chemistry sits deliberately between fast-setting acrylates/vinylesters and slower, higher-strength pure epoxies. Vinylester systems cure quickly but often carry styrene and give up some structural performance; pure epoxies bond and perform well but can behave unpredictably once site temperatures climb into the mid-30s. AnchorFix-2+ Tropical’s epoxy-acrylate blend is tuned for that upper temperature band: Sika’s published schedule shows open time falling from around 15 minutes at 15-20°C to under 4 minutes at 35-40°C, with usable handling strength inside roughly 40 minutes to an hour at the top end — the exact window most Indian sites operate in for much of the year.

Where it is used

  • Post-installed rebar dowelling for slab extensions, balcony additions and structural tie-ins to existing RCC
  • Threaded rod and bolt fixing for structural steel base plates, columns and machine foundations
  • Railing, staircase and safety-barrier anchoring into existing concrete and masonry
  • Seismic and structural retrofit anchors for bracing plates and jacketing dowels
  • Overhead and vertical fixing of HVAC hangers, cable trays and MEP brackets using the non-sag gel
  • Façade and stone-cladding bracket fixing into concrete, and natural stone with prior trial testing
  • Solid masonry and brickwork anchoring for lighter structural and semi-structural fixings
  • Industrial rack, conveyor and equipment-base anchoring in factories and warehouses

Key advantages

  • Formulated for tropical ambient conditions, so open and cure times stay predictable through Indian summer heat instead of flashing off too fast
  • ETA-approved performance in cracked concrete gives genuine structural load capacity, not just adhesive bonding
  • 10:1 by-volume mixing through a standard cartridge and static mixer removes on-site batching error
  • Fast cure schedule (as little as ~40 minutes at high ambient temperature) keeps crews productive and supports same-shift loading in many cases
  • Non-sag gel consistency holds in place during overhead and vertical injection without dripping out of the hole
  • Solvent- and styrene-free formulation means lower odour and safer handling on occupied or indoor sites
  • WRAS drinking-water certification makes it usable on fixings near potable-water infrastructure
  • Works across concrete, solid masonry, steel and natural stone, reducing the number of anchoring products a contractor needs to stock

Limitations & considerations

  • Anchor performance depends heavily on hole preparation — dust and drilling slurry left in the hole is the single biggest cause of reduced pull-out strength, adhesive quality aside
  • Base concrete must be fully cured, typically 28+ days old, before anchoring; fresh concrete falls outside the product’s design basis
  • Application temperature is specified at +15°C to +40°C; outside that band, working time and cure behaviour deviate from the published schedule
  • Wet or submerged holes need specific confirmation against the current TDS/ETA conditions before use — it is not automatically rated for underwater anchoring
  • Costs more per anchor point than plain cementitious grout, so it should be reserved for fixings that genuinely need chemical-anchor load ratings

Selection & best practice

Drill the hole to the diameter and depth given in Sika’s anchor design table for the bar or bolt size in use — never eyeball it. Clean thoroughly: brush the hole with a wire brush sized to the hole diameter, then blow it out with oil-free compressed air, repeating that brush-and-blow cycle at least twice until no dust returns. Discard the first squeeze of adhesive from a fresh cartridge until the colour runs uniform grey, confirming the 10:1 mix is homogenous, then inject from the base of the hole upward to avoid trapping air. Insert the rebar or bolt with a slight twisting motion, brace it if the fixing is horizontal or overhead, and respect the ambient-temperature-specific cure time on the schedule before applying any load.

Frequently asked questions

Can this be used in site temperatures above 40°C?
The specified application window is +15°C to +40°C. Above that, plan work for early morning or evening, or shade the substrate — open time and cure schedule are directly tied to ambient temperature and become unpredictable outside the stated range.
How is this different from the standard (non-Tropical) Sika AnchorFix-2+?
The Tropical variant is reformulated so gel and cure times stay workable at higher ambient temperatures typical of Indian summers; the standard grade is calibrated for temperate climates and can behave unpredictably at 35-40°C+ site temperatures.
What drill size and embedment depth should I use?
Depth and hole diameter depend on the bar or bolt size and whether the concrete is cracked or uncracked — always follow Sika’s published anchor design table rather than a rule of thumb, since incorrect hole sizing reduces pull-out capacity.
How soon can the anchor be loaded after installation?
Cure time is temperature-dependent, ranging from roughly 40 minutes at 35-40°C ambient to about 5 hours at 15-20°C per Sika’s published schedule. Always wait the full cure period for the site’s actual temperature before loading.
Does it work in wet or submerged holes?
It is formulated primarily for dry, dust-free holes. For damp or water-filled holes, confirm the specific wet-hole condition with Sika’s technical team or the current TDS before proceeding, as rated loads can differ from dry-hole values.
What is the shelf life and how should cartridges be stored?
15 months from date of production when stored unopened in dry conditions between +5°C and +25°C. Check the batch code on delivery, especially for stock that may have sat in a hot warehouse or transport vehicle.

How we position Sika AnchorFix®-2+ Tropical

Within Sika’s own anchoring range, AnchorFix-2+ Tropical sits above AnchorFix-1 for higher structural loads and cracked-concrete duty, while AnchorFix-3030 (pure epoxy, styrene-free) is the step up for the most demanding structural and heavy rebar work; for cementitious grouting under base plates, Space Arc pairs it with the SikaGrout range rather than treating it as a grout substitute. Where budget or job scope favours a polyester-resin system over epoxy acrylate — typically lighter masonry anchoring or non-critical fixings — Fosroc Lokfix is the genuine alternative Space Arc stocks alongside it.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Lokfix — A specifier might choose Fosroc Lokfix’s polyester-resin system over AnchorFix-2+ Tropical’s epoxy acrylate for lighter masonry or non-critical fixings where raw cost matters more than the cracked-concrete ETA rating the Sika product carries.
