STP ShaliProtek 2E PA 80
A two-component, cold-cure polyamide epoxy coating built to shield steel and concrete in corrosive, vibration-prone, and damp service conditions.
What is it?
A 2K cold-cure epoxy polyamide adduct coating, loaded with anti-corrosive pigment, that protects steel and concrete against corrosion while staying flexible enough to move with the substrate.
Where is it used?
Structural steelwork, plant equipment, bridges, tanks, pipework and concrete surfaces in industrial, marine and effluent environments where flex and moisture tolerance matter.
Why use it?
The polyamide cure gives it flexibility, moisture tolerance and self-priming, high-build coverage that a rigid amine-cured epoxy cannot match on vibrating or damp steel.
How is it applied?
Mix Component A and B at 3:1 by volume, allow induction, then apply by brush, roller or airless spray at 100-150 microns DFT over a properly prepared, blast-cleaned surface.
About STP ShaliProtek 2E PA 80
ShaliProtek 2E PA 80 is STP Limited’s flexible answer to a common site problem: standard epoxies protect well but crack or disbond when the steel underneath vibrates, flexes or carries a little residual moisture. Built on a cold-cure epoxy polyamide adduct binder and packed with anti-corrosive pigment, this two-component coating cures to a hard yet flexible film that keeps its grip through thermal movement, dynamic loading and imperfect surface conditions. At roughly 82% solids by volume, it lays down as a high-build, self-priming film, so a single system can often serve as primer, intermediate and finish where a full multi-coat build is not warranted.
For engineers and applicators across Delhi NCR and pan-India, its appeal is practical. It bonds to steel, concrete, timber and other construction substrates, tolerates conditions that would defeat a rigid amine-cured epoxy, and stays serviceable from sub-zero to elevated temperatures. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised STP distributor and applicator, with technical support on specification, surface preparation and DFT control so the coating performs the way the data sheet promises rather than the way a rushed site application allows.
The technical insight
The performance difference comes down to the curing chemistry. Instead of a fast, brittle amine cure, ShaliProtek 2E PA 80 uses a polyamide adduct hardener. Polyamide molecules are longer and more flexible than simple amines, so the cured epoxy network has more built-in give. That flexibility is what lets the film absorb vibration, thermal expansion and slight substrate movement without micro-cracking, the failure mode that opens the door to under-film corrosion on dynamically loaded steel. Polyamide cure also brings genuine surface tolerance: it wets and adheres over marginally prepared or slightly damp steel far better than amine systems, which is why the coating is described as self-priming and moisture-tolerant. The anti-corrosive pigment then does the electrochemical work, forming a dense barrier that resists salt and moisture ingress, evidenced by its salt-spray performance. The trade-off, inherent to polyamide chemistry, is slower cure and lower chemical-immersion resistance than a novolac epoxy, which is the deliberate design choice behind this grade.
Where it is used
- Anti-corrosive protection of structural steelwork in industrial plants and factory sheds
- Coating for vibrating or dynamically loaded steel such as machinery frames and support structures
- Flexible protective coat on bridge steelwork and fabricated sections subject to thermal movement
- Barrier coating for storage tanks, pipework and steel vessels in corrosive atmospheres
- Protection of concrete surfaces and RCC members in aggressive or marine environments
- Intermediate and top coat over compatible primers in multi-coat protective systems
- Maintenance and repainting of previously coated steel where surface prep is imperfect
- Coastal and effluent-exposed steel and concrete needing a moisture-tolerant film
Key advantages
- Flexible polyamide-cured film that resists cracking on vibrating and thermally moving steel
- Surface-tolerant and self-priming, forgiving of marginally prepared or slightly damp substrates
- High solids at ~82% by volume gives high-build coverage in fewer coats
- Bonds to steel, concrete, timber and other common construction substrates
- Strong adhesion (>5 MPa) and hard Shore D 70 finish for abrasion resistance
- Wide service window, from about -5C up to 70-80C continuous
- Proven salt-spray resistance for dependable corrosion barrier performance
- Applies by brush, roller or spray for flexibility on site and in the shop
Limitations & considerations
- Not intended for aggressive chemical immersion; a novolac epoxy is required for pH extremes or strong solvents
- Pot life is limited to about 1 hour at 30C, so mix only what can be applied in time
- Full cure takes around 7 days, delaying return to heavy service or immersion
- Being epoxy-based, the finish will chalk and fade under prolonged UV unless overcoated with a PU topcoat
- Continuous service above roughly 80C is outside its rated range
- Performance still depends on NACE/SSPC-grade surface preparation despite its tolerance
Selection & best practice
Blast-clean steel to the specified NACE/SSPC standard and let new concrete reach at least 28 days before coating. Combine Component B into Component A at 3:1 by volume, mix for about 5 minutes with a slow-speed drill (400-600 rpm) and paddle, allow the short induction time, then stir gently by hand. Apply within the roughly 1-hour pot life at 30C, working between 10C and 40C. Build to 100-150 microns DFT per coat; if a second coat is needed for higher build, apply it after about 12 hours. Protect the fresh film from rain and dust, allow 7 days for full cure before aggressive exposure, and add a PU topcoat where long-term colour and gloss retention matter.

Industry use cases
Industrial Plants
Protects structural steel, machinery frames and pipework in factories and process plants where vibration and corrosive atmospheres would crack a rigid epoxy.
Bridges & Infrastructure
Coats fabricated steel and bridge sections that expand, contract and flex, keeping the corrosion barrier intact through thermal and dynamic movement.
Marine & Coastal
Shields steel and concrete against salt-laden air and moisture, using its moisture tolerance and salt-spray resistance in humid coastal exposure.
Water & Effluent
Lines tanks, channels and concrete structures in treatment facilities, providing a flexible, self-priming barrier on damp or freshly cured surfaces.
Steel Fabrication
Shop-applies as a high-build, surface-tolerant primer-cum-finish on fabricated members, cutting coats while forgiving imperfect blast profiles.

How we position STP ShaliProtek 2E PA 80
ShaliProtek 2E PA 80 sits in the flexible, surface-tolerant tier of STP’s protective coatings. Step up to ShaliProtek 2E PA 120 when a higher-build polyamide film is wanted, or to the ShaliProtek NES novolac range and ShaliProtek 2E HB SF solvent-free systems when chemical immersion resistance is the priority. For MIO intermediate coats in a heavy-duty stack, pair it with ShaliProtek 2E MIO 40/60. Where a specifier prefers the Fosroc protective range, Space Arc also supplies Nitocote EN901 for aggressive chemical exposure and Nitocote EP405 for potable-water tank linings. Across brands, this product competes with general-purpose anti-corrosive epoxies from Sika and MC-Bauchemie; our team helps match the right grade to the actual service condition rather than over- or under-specifying.
Fosroc Nitocote EN901 — Choose the Fosroc novolac option when the steel or concrete faces aggressive chemical exposure or immersion (pH 1-14) that a flexible polyamide coating is not designed to resist.
