STP ShaliSeal Tape
Cold-applied, UV-resistant aluminium-faced bituminous flashing tape that seals roof leaks, sheet laps and cracks in minutes, no torch or bonding agent required.
What is it?
A self-adhesive, pressure-sensitive bituminous tape faced with UV-resistant aluminium film and reinforced with polyester, formerly sold as SuperFlashStrip. It forms an instant, permanent, water-tight seal on a wide range of building materials.
Where is it used?
Roof flashings, sheet lap and edge joints on GI/asbestos-cement/metal roofs, parapets, skylights, gutters, ducts, sanitary and metal pipes, and emergency leak repairs across Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.
Why use it?
It waterproofs on contact without heat, primer-only prep, or a second adhesive, so a small crew can seal live leaks quickly even in exposed, sun-facing locations.
How is it applied?
Clean and dry the surface (prime porous substrates with ShaliTex Primer), cut to length, peel the silicone release film, position, and press down firmly with a roller or cloth pad.
About STP ShaliSeal Tape
STP ShaliSeal Tape is a ready-to-use flashing and sealing tape built for the realities of Indian rooftops, where sheet joints open up, fasteners work loose, and monsoon water finds every crack. It pairs a self-adhesive bituminous compound with a tough polyester reinforcement and a bright aluminium film face. The bitumen wets into the substrate and grips instantly; the polyester layer keeps the tape dimensionally stable so it does not stretch or tear as it is pressed down; and the aluminium facing shrugs off UV and reflects solar heat, which is why the tape can be left permanently exposed rather than needing to be tucked under a covering. It was previously marketed as SuperFlashStrip, so specifiers who know that older name are looking at the same product.
Because it is cold-applied, ShaliSeal Tape suits situations where a torch is impractical or unsafe, near occupied areas, over combustible decks, or on a live roof that cannot be shut down. Contractors carry it for both planned detailing and reactive repairs: sealing the overlap where two roofing sheets meet, dressing a pipe penetration, bridging a hairline crack in a parapet, or stopping a gutter joint from weeping. The tape comes in 50, 100 and 150 mm widths on 10 m rolls, so a single site kit covers everything from narrow lap seams to wider flashing bands. As STP’s authorised distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies it with the correct ShaliTex primer and application guidance so the bond performs as the data sheet intends.
The technical insight
The tape works because each layer does one job well. The self-adhesive bitumen is a pressure-sensitive compound, so bonding energy comes from the hand-roller you press it with rather than from heat: rolling drives the bitumen into the surface profile and displaces trapped air, which is what turns a peel-and-stick tape into a genuine water-tight seal. Independent testing backs this up, adhesion to primed concrete and primed steel both exceed 250 N (ASTM D-1000), so the bond resists peel and wind uplift once cured. The embedded polyester scrim is the reason the tape holds those numbers: it gives more than 300 N/50 mm tensile strength in both directions while limiting elongation to a controlled band above 20% (ASTM D-638), so the tape flexes with thermal movement but will not neck down or creep at a joint. The aluminium face raises the softening point behaviour and screens UV, letting the compound survive a service range of minus 40 to plus 80 degrees C, and its 1.5 mm thickness with an impact rating of 1750 mm means it takes foot traffic and site knocks during installation without splitting.
Where it is used
- Sealing leaks and cracks on galvanized, asbestos-cement and concrete roofs
- Waterproofing lap and edge joints on metal and profiled roofing sheets
- Flashing pipe penetrations, skylights, frames and parapet junctions
- Repairing gutter joints, ducts and metal or sanitary pipework
- Emergency and reactive roof-leak repair on live, occupied buildings
- Sealing boats, glass and plastic surfaces where a cold-applied seal is needed
- Bridging fine cracks before or under a liquid or membrane waterproofing system
- Cable insulation and refrigeration joint protection
Key advantages
- Cold-applied and self-adhesive, no torch, gas cylinder or open flame on site
- Needs no separate bonding agent or chemical primer except on porous surfaces
- Aluminium film face resists UV and reflects heat, so it can stay permanently exposed
- Instant, permanent, water-tight bond on contact, saving time and labour cost
- Only a knife or scissors and a roller or cloth pad are needed to install it
- Polyester reinforcement gives high tensile strength and controlled stretch at joints
- Wide service range from minus 40 to plus 80 degrees C withstands seasonal extremes
- Available in 50, 100 and 150 mm widths to match different joint and flashing sizes
Limitations & considerations
- Not a standalone waterproofing membrane for large areas, it is a jointing and repair tape
- Porous substrates such as bare concrete must first be primed with ShaliTex Primer or the bond will fail
- Cannot be applied in rain, freezing or snowing conditions, or below about 5 degrees C
- Bond depends on firm roller pressure, a lightly pressed tape will not seal properly
- The aluminium finish is fixed, so it cannot be over-coated to match a specific roof colour without a compatible top coat
- Overlaps must be at least 10 mm, and dirty, damp or oily surfaces will compromise adhesion
Selection & best practice
Start with a surface that is dry, sound, clean and free of dust, oil and loose particles. On porous or dusty substrates such as concrete, brush on a coat of ShaliTex Primer and let it become tacky before taping. Unroll only as much tape as you can press down at once, cut to length with a sharp knife or scissors, peel the silicone release film, position accurately, and roll it down firmly with a hand roller or cloth pad to squeeze out air and drive the bitumen into the surface. Keep any overlaps to a minimum of 10 mm and stagger joints. Work above 5 degrees C and never during rain, frost or snow. Store rolls flat in a cool, dry, shaded place between 5 and 40 degrees C, and use within the 24-month shelf life.

How we position STP ShaliSeal Tape
ShaliSeal Tape is a jointing and repair tape, not an area waterproofing system, so it is best specified alongside a primary membrane. On concrete roofs, prime the slab with STP ShaliTex Primer before taping and detail large areas with an STP bituminous membrane such as the SuperThermoLay or ShaliPlus APP-modified range, using the tape to seal laps, terminations and penetrations. For high-movement expansion joints, STP’s ShaliTape Flex thermoplastic joint tape is the better choice. Where a project is standardised on other brands we distribute, comparable self-adhesive flashing tapes such as Sika MultiSeal BT or Dr. Fixit’s tape range can serve the same detailing role, and our Fosroc Proofex self-adhesive membranes cover cold-applied sheet waterproofing where the scope goes beyond taped joints. Space Arc can supply the tape, the matching primer and the companion membrane together so the whole detail is compatible.
