What is it?

A 0.5 mm nominal, self-smoothing coloured epoxy resin flooring system from Sika, built from an epoxy primer and a self-levelling epoxy topping applied over prepared concrete.

Where is it used?

Dry production and processing areas, storage and assembly halls, maintenance workshops, garages, loading ramps and light-to-medium industrial floors.

Why use it?

It converts dusty, porous concrete into a jointless, liquid-tight, chemical- and abrasion-resistant surface that is hygienic and simple to keep clean.

How is it applied?

Concrete is mechanically prepared to CSP 3-4, primed, then the epoxy topping is poured and spread with a notched trowel or pin rake and deaerated with a spiked roller.

About Sika Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 AP

Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 AP is Sika’s entry-level self-smoothing epoxy floor for dry, indoor industrial environments where a plain power-floated concrete slab simply cannot cope. At a nominal build of around 0.5 mm, it sits between a thin roller coating and a full high-build screed, giving specifiers a cost-effective way to seal a slab, hide minor surface imperfections and deliver a smooth, gloss, coloured finish in one coordinated system. The system is factory-proportioned, so the resin and hardener arrive in matched packs that only need mixing on site, which keeps the on-floor result consistent from bay to bay.

The floor is a two-part build: an epoxy primer that penetrates and stabilises the prepared concrete, followed by a self-levelling epoxy topping that flows out to a seamless film. Because it is jointless and liquid-tight, it removes the open pores and construction dust that plague bare concrete, and its glossy face wipes down easily. Available across a wide RAL colour range, it is a practical choice for facilities that want a clean, durable, presentable floor without moving to a thick decorative or heavy-duty system. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies the system as an authorised Sika partner across Delhi NCR and on projects Pan-India.

The technical insight

The performance of a thin-build self-smoothing floor comes down to bond and flow. The primer does the heavy lifting on adhesion: it soaks into the mechanically opened concrete surface, displaces trapped air and creates a resin-rich anchor layer, which is why the mechanically prepared substrate and its moisture state matter so much. Sika documents a pull-off (tensile adhesion) strength greater than 1.5 N/mm2, meaning failure will typically occur in the concrete rather than at the interface. The self-levelling topping then relies on controlled rheology to flow out under its own weight into a level, deaerated film before the epoxy gels. Once cured, the cross-linked epoxy network delivers the hardness and abrasion resistance the floor needs, with a Shore D hardness of about 76 and Taber abrasion loss around 41 mg, so daily foot and light wheeled traffic burnishes rather than gouges the surface. The rigid, closed film is also what makes the floor liquid-tight and chemically resistant, keeping spills on the surface where they can be cleaned rather than soaking into the slab.

Where it is used

  • Dry production and processing floors in light and medium-duty manufacturing
  • Storage halls, warehouses and assembly areas with normal to medium-heavy traffic
  • Maintenance workshops, service bays and repair garages
  • Loading ramps, dispatch zones and internal goods movement corridors
  • Sealing and upgrading existing power-floated concrete slabs
  • Plant rooms, utility areas and back-of-house service floors
  • Presentable industrial floors where colour and a gloss finish are wanted
  • Base coat under further Sika build-ups where a thin, sound floor is the first requirement

Key advantages

  • Self-smoothing topping flows out to a seamless, jointless surface that hides minor slab imperfections
  • Liquid-tight and glossy, so spills stay on top and the floor wipes clean easily
  • Good chemical and mechanical resistance for a thin-build system
  • Strong bond to prepared concrete, with tensile adhesion greater than 1.5 N/mm2
  • Hard, abrasion-resistant film (Shore D approx. 76) that handles daily traffic
  • Wide RAL colour range for zoning, brightening or a professional finish
  • Factory-proportioned packs give consistent, repeatable mixing on site
  • Economical route to a durable resin floor without a heavy high-build system

Limitations & considerations

  • Designed for dry, indoor areas only; not intended for permanently wet or externally exposed floors
  • Thin nominal build (approx. 0.5 mm) suits normal to medium-heavy traffic, not heavy point loads or impact
  • Substrate moisture must be at or below 4% by mass or the film risks blistering and debonding
  • Epoxy gloss can chalk, yellow and lose sheen under strong or continuous UV exposure
  • Requires proper mechanical preparation (CSP 3-4) and a sound slab; it cannot cure a structurally weak floor
  • Application is temperature and humidity sensitive, so site conditions must be within the specified window

Selection & best practice

Success starts under the coating. Mechanically prepare the concrete to a CSP 3-4 profile, remove laitance, oil and old coatings, and confirm the substrate is sound and dry, with moisture at or below 4% by mass before priming. Repair blowholes and defects, and treat or seal any joints and cracks as detailed. Apply the primer evenly so the whole surface is sealed with no dry patches, then apply the self-smoothing topping within the primer’s stated overcoating window. Mix each resin and hardener unit fully, pour the topping onto the floor, spread it to the required rate with a notched trowel or pin rake, and immediately deaerate with a spiked roller, keeping a wet edge to avoid lap marks. Work within +8C to +35C, with the substrate at least 3C above dew point, and protect the fresh floor from traffic, dust and water until it has cured. Always follow the current Sika Product and System Data Sheets for the project conditions.

Frequently asked questions

How thick is Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 AP?
It is a thin-build self-smoothing system with a nominal thickness of about 0.5 mm, made up of an epoxy primer and a self-levelling epoxy topping over prepared concrete.
Can it be used in wet areas or outdoors?
No. ES-05 AP is intended for dry, indoor industrial areas. For permanently wet process areas Sika offers wet-area systems such as the ET-05 range, and external floors need a UV-stable topcoat specification.
What traffic can it handle?
It is rated for normal to medium-heavy traffic, meaning foot traffic and light-to-medium wheeled movement. For heavy point loads, forklift-intensive duty or impact, a thicker high-build screed is the better choice.
How dry does the concrete need to be?
The concrete substrate should be at or below 4% moisture by mass before priming. Applying over a damp or freshly cast slab risks blistering and loss of adhesion, so measured moisture testing is essential.
What colours are available?
The system is offered in a gloss finish across a wide RAL colour range, so floors can be colour-matched for branding, zoning or simply a brighter working environment.
Does Space Arc supply and apply this floor?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Sika distributor and applicator and can supply the material or deliver the full prepared-and-applied floor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

How we position Sika Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 AP

Within the Sika range, ES-05 AP is the thin-build starting point. When a project needs a thicker, more robust self-levelling floor, step up to a higher-build MultiDur system; where the area is permanently wet, the MultiDur ET-05 AP wet-area system is the correct family member; and for ESD-controlled spaces the MultiDur ES-55 ESD variant applies. From Space Arc’s wider portfolio, Fosroc, Dr. Fixit and MC-Bauchemie offer comparable epoxy and PU flooring build-ups where a client is standardised on those brands, and any resin floor should be paired with correctly detailed movement-joint sealants from our sealants range to protect the finished surface.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 — A specifier wanting a thicker 2 mm self-levelling epoxy for heavier wear or a more robust jointless finish would choose the Fosroc option over this thin-build 0.5 mm system.
