What is it?

A complete two-component epoxy flooring system that lays down as a 1.5 mm self-smoothing, coloured, rigid topping over a primed concrete base.

Where is it used?

Dry industrial areas with normal to medium-heavy wear: manufacturing halls, storage warehouses, assembly lines, workshops, garages and loading ramps.

Why use it?

It delivers a jointless, glossy, liquid-tight floor with good chemical and abrasion resistance that is far easier to clean and maintain than bare or painted concrete.

How is it applied?

The concrete is primed with Sikafloor-161/161 HC, then the pigmented resin is poured, spread to 1.5 mm and de-aerated with a spiked roller to flow out level.

About Sika Sikafloor MultiDur ES-15 AP

Sikafloor MultiDur ES-15 AP is Sika’s mid-range self-smoothing epoxy floor built for Indian industrial buildings that need a genuinely seamless, durable surface rather than a thin decorative paint. The system is supplied as matched components: a Sikafloor-161 or 161 HC epoxy primer that seals and grips the concrete, and a self-smoothing epoxy topping (from the Sikafloor-263 SL / 264 family) blended with graded quartz filler and poured to a nominal 1.5 mm. Because it is a 100% solids formulation with no solvent to flash off, the film builds thickness in a single pour and cures dense and hard.

The “AP” designation marks this as the Asia-Pacific specification, so the pack sizes, cure behaviour and coverage figures are set for local ambient conditions and material availability. For a plant engineer, that matters: the floor can be laid at site temperatures from +8 to +35 degrees C, tolerates relative humidity up to 80%, and reaches foot traffic in about a day. The result is a monolithic, RAL-coloured floor with a gloss finish that resists the oils, spills, trolley wheels and washdown that a working shop floor throws at it every shift.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the self-smoothing epoxy chemistry. Mixing the resin (Part A) with the hardener (Part B) triggers a cross-linking reaction that turns the liquid into a tightly bonded thermoset polymer, and because there is no solvent, essentially all of the applied volume stays on the floor as cured material rather than evaporating. That is why a single 1.5 mm pour builds to full thickness with no pinholes or shrinkage cavities. The graded quartz filler packed into the topping does two jobs at once: it fills the resin economically and forms a dense mineral skeleton that carries compressive load, which is how the floor reaches roughly 53 N/mm2 in compression and a Shore D hardness of about 76. During placement the mixed resin has enough flow to level itself under a spiked roller, closing over the trowel marks and de-aerating to a seamless film, then it locks off through the same cure. The primer is the quiet hero: it penetrates and seals the concrete so the topping bonds to a stable base instead of dusty laitance, which is what stops the floor delaminating later under wheel traffic.

Where it is used

  • Manufacturing and production halls carrying continuous foot and trolley traffic
  • Storage and distribution warehouses needing a seamless, dust-free floor
  • Assembly and sub-assembly lines where a clean, wipeable surface is required
  • Maintenance workshops and service garages exposed to oils and lubricants
  • Goods-dispatch ramps, bays and loading docks with medium-heavy mechanical wear
  • Light engineering and packaging units requiring an easy-to-clean floor
  • Automotive service floors where spilled fluids must be contained and removed
  • General dry industrial areas upgrading from bare or painted concrete

Key advantages

  • Seamless, jointless finish with no grout lines to trap dirt or fail
  • 100% solids, solvent-free formulation builds 1.5 mm in a single pour
  • Good chemical resistance to common oils, greases and mild spills
  • High abrasion and wear resistance for trolley and light forklift traffic
  • Liquid-tight surface that protects the concrete slab beneath
  • Glossy, RAL-coloured finish that is easy to wash down and keep hygienic
  • Reaches foot traffic in about 24 hours, keeping downtime short
  • Supplied as a matched primer-plus-topping system, reducing spec guesswork

Limitations & considerations

  • Not designed for constant wet-process areas; wet-area grades like MultiDur EB-15 AP suit those better
  • At 1.5 mm it handles medium-heavy wear, not extreme point loads or heavy forklift abuse that need a 3 mm build
  • Pot life is short and temperature-driven, dropping to about 15 minutes at +30 degrees C, so mixed material must be placed fast
  • Requires a sound, dry substrate below 4% moisture; damp or contaminated concrete will cause bond failure
  • Epoxy topcoats can chalk and lose gloss under prolonged direct UV, so it is an interior product
  • Application demands trained applicators and correct surface preparation, not a DIY roller job

Selection & best practice

Success starts with the substrate. The concrete should be mechanically prepared by shot-blasting or grinding to remove laitance and open the surface, then checked to confirm moisture is at or below 4% by mass (Tramex CME) before any resin goes down. Prime with Sikafloor-161/161 HC at 0.35 to 0.50 kg/m2 and let it seal the surface; scatter-blind heavily porous slabs so no dry patches remain. Mix Part A and Part B thoroughly to a uniform colour with a slow-speed drill, working only what the crew can lay inside the pot life, which is roughly 25 minutes at +20 degrees C. Pour the topping, spread it with a notched trowel or squeegee to 1.5 mm, then de-aerate promptly with a spiked roller to release trapped air and let it flow level. Keep the ambient and substrate between +8 and +35 degrees C throughout, protect the fresh floor from dust and draughts, and respect the cure: light foot traffic after about 24 hours, light service after 4 days and full chemical and mechanical cure at around 7 days.

Frequently asked questions

What thickness and coverage does Sikafloor MultiDur ES-15 AP give?
It lays as a 1.5 mm nominal self-smoothing layer. Budget roughly 1.15 kg/m2 of topping plus about 0.95 kg/m2 of quartz filler, over a primer applied at 0.35 to 0.50 kg/m2.
Is this a coating or a full floor system?
It is a complete system, not just a topcoat. You get a Sikafloor-161/161 HC primer plus a self-smoothing epoxy topping, supplied as matched components so the build-up performs as designed.
Can it be used in wet-process areas?
No. ES-15 AP is intended for dry industrial areas. For continuously wet or washdown-heavy zones, Sika’s wet-area grade Sikafloor MultiDur EB-15 AP is the correct choice.
How soon can the floor be used after laying?
At +20 degrees C it takes light foot traffic in about 24 hours, light service in around 4 days, and reaches full cure at roughly 7 days. Cooler weather extends these times.
What is the pot life once mixed?
About 25 minutes at +20 degrees C, dropping to around 15 minutes at +30 degrees C. Only mix what your crew can place within that window, especially in Indian summer conditions.
What substrate condition does it need?
A sound, mechanically prepared concrete slab with moisture at or below 4% by mass (Tramex CME). Laitance must be removed and the surface primed; damp or contaminated concrete will cause bond failure.

How we position Sika Sikafloor MultiDur ES-15 AP

Within the Sika range, ES-15 AP sits in the middle of the MultiDur self-smoothing family: step down to a thinner 1 mm build for lighter-duty areas, or up to Sikafloor MultiDur ES-30 AP for a 3 mm floor where heavier forklift traffic and point loads are expected. For genuinely wet or washdown environments, move sideways to the wet-area grade Sikafloor MultiDur EB-15 AP rather than forcing a dry-area product into service. The system relies on Sikafloor-161/161 HC as its primer and graded Sika quartz filler in the topping. Across our other brands, specifiers comparing options often look at Fosroc’s Nitoflor self-levelling range or MC-Bauchemie’s epoxy floor systems for equivalent performance; our team can cross-map coverage and strength figures so you choose on merit, not just on the label. For quotations, batch availability and applicator support across Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc supplies the full ES-15 AP system as an authorised Sika distributor.
