SikaWrap-230 C

Lightweight unidirectional carbon fibre fabric for wet and dry lay-up strengthening

Product Overview

SikaWrap-230 C is a lightweight, unidirectional woven carbon fibre fabric used as externally bonded reinforcement in the Sika structural strengthening system. The 0-degree carbon filaments carry tensile load along a single axis, while a thermoplastic heat-set weft keeps the sheet stable during handling. Once impregnated on site with Sikadur epoxy, it forms a thin, high-strength laminate that bonds to concrete, masonry, brickwork and timber to lift flexural and shear capacity, confine columns and improve seismic behaviour. It suits both wet and dry lay-up. Engineers favour it for retrofitting beams, slabs and columns where added dead load must stay minimal. As an authorized Sika distributor, Space Arc Engineering supplies SikaWrap-230 C with the matching resins to contractors and consultants across India.

Features & Benefits

  • Mid-strength carbon filaments deliver roughly 4,000 N/mm2 fibre tensile strength at very low added weight
  • Drapes easily around beams, columns and curved profiles for close-fitting wraps
  • Heat-set weft thread holds the unidirectional fibres straight and tangle-free during install
  • Compatible with both dry lay-up using Sikadur-330 and wet lay-up using Sikadur-300
  • Thin 0.129 mm laminate barely changes member dimensions and is easily over-plastered or coated
  • Corrosion-free alternative to steel plate bonding, ideal for retrofit and seismic upgrades

Technical Highlights

CoverageDry lay-up with Sikadur-330: about 0.8 to 1.2 kg/m2 for the first layer and 0.7 kg/m2 per added layer; wet lay-up figures differ, refer to TDS.
StrengthDry fibre tensile strength around 4,000 N/mm2 with a tensile modulus near 230,000 N/mm2 and elongation at break of about 1.7%.
PerformanceSingle-layer laminate gives roughly 3,500 N/mm2 mean tensile strength and a design tensile resistance of about 452 kN/m width.
Application ConditionsBond to a sound, clean, open-textured substrate with minimum pull-off strength of 1.0 N/mm2; follow Sikadur resin temperature limits, refer to TDS.
PackagingSupplied as rolls of 50 m or more length in 300 mm (4 per box) or 600 mm (2 per box) widths.

Applications

  • Flexural and shear strengthening of RC bridge girders and deck soffits on infrastructure projects
  • Seismic confinement of building columns during structural retrofit
  • Restoring load capacity of industrial floor slabs and beams after change of use
  • Strengthening masonry walls and brick arches in heritage and commercial refurbishment
  • Reinforcing residential balconies, cantilevers and slabs showing deflection or cracking

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SikaWrap-230 C used for?

It is a unidirectional carbon fibre fabric bonded to concrete, masonry, brickwork or timber to increase flexural and shear capacity, confine columns and improve seismic resistance as part of the Sika externally bonded reinforcement system.

Which resin is used to apply SikaWrap-230 C?

It is impregnated on site with Sikadur epoxy, typically Sikadur-330 for the dry lay-up method or Sikadur-300 for the wet lay-up method, which cures to form the structural laminate.

Does SikaWrap-230 C add much weight to a structure?

No. At about 235 g/m2 and a cured thickness near 0.129 mm per layer, it adds negligible dead load compared with steel plate bonding, which is a key reason it is chosen for retrofit work.

What surface preparation does SikaWrap-230 C need?

The substrate must be clean, sound and open-textured, free of laitance and contaminants, with a minimum pull-off tensile strength of about 1.0 N/mm2. Always confirm details in the current TDS.
