Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc LUB 1
An inorganic pipe-priming lubricant that gets concrete pump lines flowing clean before the pour starts, built for tunnelling, mining and long-line pumping crews.
What is it?
A ready-to-use, inorganic lubricating slurry pumped through concrete lines and hoses ahead of the concrete charge, replacing the traditional cement-and-water slurry prime.
Where is it used?
Metro and road tunnel linings, hydropower headrace and tailrace tunnels, underground mine development and backfill, shotcrete rigs, and any site running long or awkward pump lines.
Why use it?
It coats the inside of hoses and pipelines with a thin, low-friction film so the pump isn’t fighting the line, cutting the risk of a mid-pour blockage that means hours of cleanout and a wasted load of ready-mix.
How is it applied?
Pumped into the empty line and pushed through to the nozzle before concrete is introduced; no premixing on site, the crew primes, checks the line runs clear, then starts the pour.
About Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc LUB 1
Every pumping crew knows the ritual before a pour: prime the line so the pump isn’t fighting dry friction the moment concrete enters the hose. For decades the default was a slug of cement-and-water slurry pushed through ahead of the load, cheap but messy, wasteful, and a genuine blockage risk on long or looping lines, especially underground where a stuck line means shutting down a tunnel face until it’s cleared. MasterRoc LUB 1 is Master Builders Solutions’ purpose-built answer: an inorganic, ready-to-use lubricant that primes the line in one pass, with no premixing and no slurry left to dispose of.
For Space Arc’s project engineers, LUB 1 shows up mostly on jobs where a blocked line costs real money and time: Delhi NCR and other metro tunnelling packages, Himalayan hydropower headrace and tailrace drives, underground mine development, and shotcrete crews running long hose runs to the face. On these sites, remobilising a jammed pump can mean hours of lost tunnel-face time. We supply LUB 1 on a project basis alongside the rest of MBS’s MasterRoc underground range, and work out the right priming quantity for your line before the first pour.
The technical insight
MasterRoc LUB 1’s main component is inorganic rather than the water-soluble organic polymers used in many rival pump primers. Pumped through an empty line, it forms a thin lubricating film on the hose or pipe wall that reduces the friction the pump has to overcome, the same job cement slurry has done for decades, but without the downsides: no premixing, no leftover cement paste to dispose of on a tunnel invert, and a formulation that behaves consistently batch after batch instead of varying with how the on-site slurry was mixed that morning. Because it’s flushed ahead of the charge rather than blended into the mix, it isn’t a set-retarding or strength-modifying admixture; its job finishes at the nozzle, not in the cured concrete.
Where it is used
- Priming concrete and shotcrete pump lines before sprayed concrete application in tunnels
- Long-distance line pumping for metro and road tunnel segment or invert concreting
- TBM backfill and annulus grouting line lubrication in underground works
- Underground mine development concrete and backfill pumping
- Hydropower tunnel lining and headrace or tailrace concrete placement
- Boom-pump and line-pump priming on deep foundation or raft pours with long lines
- Repeat-use pump fleets where hose wear and blockage downtime are recurring costs
- Remote or hill-road sites where a blocked line means a multi-hour, high-cost stoppage
Key advantages
- Cuts friction so pumps prime with less strain and wear on seals and pistons
- Reduces blockage risk on long or high-lift lines
- No premixing required; ready to use straight from the container
- Environmentally friendlier than dumping cement slurry on site
- Extends the working life of hoses and pipelines
- Consistent, factory-controlled formulation instead of ad hoc on-site slurry mixing
- Backed by MBS tunnelling and mining engineering support via Space Arc
- Simple to train site crews on: one product, one method, every time
Limitations & considerations
- Not a concrete admixture; it doesn’t alter strength, workability or set time of the concrete itself
- Correct quantity for line length and diameter must be confirmed from the technical data sheet
- Primarily specified for professional pumping and tunnelling contractors, not a retail item
- In India it typically moves on a project or indent basis through Space Arc, not counter stock
- Won’t fix mechanical pump faults; worn pistons or poor mix design still cause blockages
- The small quantity discharged at the start of the pour should be managed per site EHS rules
Selection & best practice
Flush and prime the whole line before concrete is introduced, don’t skip priming after washout stoppages, keep the next ready-mix batch staged so the line doesn’t sit idle once primed, train the operator on the correct quantity for that line’s length and diameter, and confirm dosing with your Space Arc project engineer before a first-time run.

Industry use cases
Metro rail tunnelling
Long conveyance lines feeding segment lining and invert pours on Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru metro packages, where a blocked line stops the tunnel face.
Hydropower tunnelling
Himalayan headrace and tailrace drives where remote access makes a cleared blockage a multi-hour, high-cost event.
Underground mining
Development and backfill concreting where pump lines run long distances through drives and declines.
Sprayed concrete contractors
Priming the lines feeding robotic or manual shotcrete rigs on tunnel support work.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc LUB 1
MasterRoc LUB 1 sits inside MBS’s MasterRoc range for tunnelling, mining and underground construction, the same range that supplies sprayed-concrete accelerators, resin injection systems and ground engineering grouts Space Arc quotes alongside it on tunnel and metro packages. Fosroc’s Conplast Pump Prime is a genuine equivalent worth benchmarking, a water-soluble polymer powder versus LUB 1’s ready-to-use liquid, so the choice often comes down to whether your crew prefers a no-premix liquid or is already set up to batch a polymer solution. Space Arc can quote either brand depending on what’s stocked on your project.
