Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug
The one-component cement plug that stops an active water leak in under two minutes, buying you time for the real repair
What is it?
A one-component, rapid-setting cementitious plugging compound — special cement, graded fillers, additives and polymers — that hardens within minutes on contact with water.
Where is it used?
RCC water tanks, basement walls, lift shafts and pits, tunnel ducts, concrete water pipes, and any active crack or hole leaking water under pressure.
Why use it?
It is the only practical way to physically stop water actively running through a crack or hole while a permanent waterproofing or structural repair is arranged.
How is it applied?
Hand-mixed with clean water (220 ml per 1 kg powder) and pressed into a pre-cut, dampened crack or hole with a gloved hand or trowel; sets in 1-2 minutes on contact with the leak, no curing needed.
About Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug
Every Space Arc site visit for an active leak follows the same script: a client calls saying water is coming through a crack right now, and by the time anyone can mobilise a full waterproofing crew, the seepage has already stained a ceiling or flooded a shaft. Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug exists for exactly that gap. It is a one-component cementitious powder — special cement blended with graded fillers, additives and polymers — that you hand-mix with water on site and press into the leaking crack or hole with a gloved hand. Contact with the running water itself triggers the set: the compound goes off in roughly one to two minutes, hard enough to physically block the flow while everyone else gets the permanent repair organised.
It is deliberately a narrow tool. Dr. Fixit does not market Instant Leak Plug as a waterproofing system, and neither do we — it is a stop-gap plug, not a substitute for Pidicrete URP, Pidiproof LW+, or a proper Fosroc/Dr. Fixit repair mortar applied afterward. What it does extremely well is turn a flooding emergency into a manageable one: RCC water tanks, lift pits, basement walls, tunnel ducts and running cracks in concrete pipework are the classic call-outs where a 1 kg tub in the site office toolbox has saved a slab from major water damage. We stock it as a standing item precisely because the moment you need it, you need it in minutes, not after a supplier run.
The technical insight
The mechanism worth understanding is that this isn’t a resin or a chemical sealant reacting on a timer — it’s a very fast-hydrating cementitious mix that uses the leaking water itself as part of its own set trigger, which is why the manufacturer’s data sheet clocks pot life at just 2 minutes (BS 6319) and setting time at a maximum of 3 minutes under ASTM C266 at 30±1°C. The specified mixing ratio, 220 ml of water to 1 kg of powder (a 22:100 ratio by weight), produces what Pidilite’s own TDS describes as a “thixotropic gel mortar” — a mix that behaves like a workable gel while you’re pressing it in by hand, then rapidly stiffens once undisturbed, which is exactly the rheology you want for packing into a crack against flowing water without it washing straight back out. The strength-gain curve in the ASTM C109 data tells the real story of what this product is for: only 1 MPa compressive strength at 2 hours, climbing to 14 MPa at 7 days and 20 MPa at 28 days. That two-hour figure is deliberately low — it confirms this is engineered purely to physically obstruct water flow within minutes, not to develop structural strength quickly. The strength only catches up to a genuine repair mortar over the following weeks, by which point the crack should already be under a permanent waterproofing or structural repair, not relying on the plug alone.
Where it is used
- Plugging active, pressurised water leaks through cracks and holes in RCC water tanks and water-retaining structures
- Emergency sealing of leaking or seeping construction/shrinkage cracks in concrete and masonry before permanent repair
- Stopping running leaks in basement walls where water ingress threatens to flood a lower level
- Sealing leaks in lift shafts and pits where standing water is a safety and equipment-damage risk
- Emergency patch repairs on leaking concrete water pipes ahead of a scheduled fix
- Plugging seepage in tunnels and service ducts during monsoon or groundwater ingress
- Anchoring injection nozzles/ports as a temporary hold before crack-injection grouting begins
- First-response leak control on terraces and podium slabs while a full re-waterproofing scope is planned
Key advantages
- Sets against active flowing water in 1-2 minutes — most crack-fillers and repair mortars can’t be placed until the leak is stopped or diverted first
- Single-component powder — just add water on site, no resin, no hardener, no mixing ratio errors under pressure
- No curing required, so a plugged leak is load-bearing against water pressure almost immediately
- Simple hand or trowel application means site labour can execute it without specialist tooling
- Genuinely versatile substrate use — works on RCC tanks, masonry, concrete pipes, lift shafts and tunnel ducts alike
- Small 1 kg pack size keeps it affordable as a standing emergency-kit item rather than a bulk procurement
- Backed by a real Pidilite technical data sheet with ASTM-tested compressive and flexural strength figures, not just marketing claims
- Long shelf life (6 months unopened) means it survives sitting unused in a site store until the emergency actually happens
Limitations & considerations
- Strictly an emergency stop-gap — it is not a waterproofing membrane or a substitute for a proper repair/waterproofing system
- Works on cementitious substrates only; it will not bond reliably to non-concrete, non-masonry surfaces
- Practical only for openings up to roughly 20 mm; larger holes need patch-by-patch work rather than a single application
- Extremely short working time (about 2 minutes) means only small batches can be mixed at once — not efficient for sealing long runs of cracking
- Once set, the material cannot be reactivated, softened, or reworked — mistakes mean cutting it out and starting again
- Aesthetic finish is rough by nature (it’s a plug, not a smoothing compound), so it will usually need to be made good or covered by the permanent repair
Selection & best practice
Treat this strictly as triage, not treatment. Cut the crack or hole out to a clean square profile (never a V-shape) up to about 20 mm, remove every loose particle, and pre-wet the substrate with clean water — a dry or dusty surface will not let the plug key in properly. Mix only what you can use inside two minutes (roughly a palm-sized batch), using exactly 220 ml of clean water per 1 kg of powder, and mix fast and evenly by hand. You have about one minute after adding the water to get the mix in place — press it in hard with a gloved hand or trowel and hold firm for 30 seconds to a minute until it has visibly set, then leave it a minimum of 24 hours before trimming flush or disturbing it further. For openings larger than 20 mm, work in patches from the outside toward the middle rather than trying to fill the whole opening in one go, and never try to reactivate or rework material that has already set — mix a fresh batch instead. Most importantly, log every location where Instant Leak Plug goes in: it is a stop-gap, and someone needs to schedule the actual waterproofing or structural repair (Pidicrete URP, Crack-X Shrinkfree, or an appropriate Fosroc Renderoc system) before the plug is treated as a finished job.

Industry use cases
Residential (apartment/villa owners)
A homeowner’s basement or overhead water tank develops a crack and water is actively seeping in — Instant Leak Plug stops the flow the same day, ahead of scheduling a full waterproofing contractor visit.
Commercial construction sites
During monsoon, a lift pit or basement retaining wall on an active site starts leaking under hydrostatic pressure; site engineers keep a tub on hand to plug it immediately and avoid halting work or damaging finishes below.
Facility management / building maintenance
An FM team managing an occupied commercial building uses it as first response to a burst or leaking concrete water pipe joint, stopping water damage to floors below while a plumber is called.
Infrastructure (tunnels, metro, utility ducts)
Groundwater seepage through a construction joint in a tunnel or service duct is plugged as an interim measure, buying time for a proper injection-grouting or membrane repair to be scheduled.
Industrial water-retaining structures
An RCC water treatment or storage tank develops a leaking crack; the plug stops product/water loss immediately so the tank doesn’t need to be fully drained and taken offline before a permanent repair is planned.

How we position Dr. Fixit Instant Leak Plug
Within the Dr. Fixit building-repairs range, Instant Leak Plug sits at the very front of the repair sequence — it is the product you reach for before Pidicrete URP (which recoats and structurally waterproofs the slab once dry), Crack-X Shrinkfree (surface prep, bonding and crack repair), or Pidifin 2K (the coating system that actually waterproofs the substrate long-term). None of those three can be applied against an actively running leak; Instant Leak Plug’s entire job is to buy the minutes or hours needed to get the area dry enough for one of them to go on properly. Space Arc typically supplies it as a companion line item alongside a Pidicrete URP or Crack-X Shrinkfree repair scope, not as a standalone fix. For specifiers running a Fosroc-based repair specification instead of Dr. Fixit, Renderoc Plug is the direct equivalent and is available through us as an authorised Fosroc distributor — the choice usually comes down to which brand’s repair mortar and waterproofing system is already specified for the rest of the job, since matching the plug to the follow-on repair range keeps warranty and compatibility questions simple.
Fosroc Renderoc Plug — Specifiers already standardised on a Fosroc repair range, or those wanting a compound certified to BS EN 1504-3 Class R1 for the leak-plugging step, often choose Renderoc Plug instead — chemistry and setting behaviour are close, and either performs the same emergency role in a Fosroc-led repair specification.
