Dr. Fixit Pidigrout EG-3 S

A three-part epoxy resin grout for machine foundations — mixes on site, sets in under two hours, and holds up under vibration and chemical exposure that cementitious grout can’t take.

BrandDr. FixitCategoryGrouts & AnchorsFormA three-component epoxy resin machine-foundation grout — resin, hardener and graded aggregate filler mixed on site…

What is it?

A three-component epoxy resin machine-foundation grout — resin, hardener and graded aggregate filler mixed on site into a pourable paste.

Where is it used?

Under compressors, pumps, turbines, precast bridge bearings and rail baseplates — any base plate with a 10-65 mm gap carrying dynamic load.

Why use it?

Cementitious grout takes days to reach strength and degrades under oil or chemical spillage near machinery; EG-3 S is walkable within hours and largely inert to plant fluids.

How is it applied?

Mixed with a slow-speed drill and paddle stirrer, then poured continuously from one end through a hopper into a boxed, oil-free gap within its ~30-40 minute pot life.

About Dr. Fixit Pidigrout EG-3 S

Dr. Fixit Pidigrout EG-3 S is Pidilite’s three-component epoxy resin grout for machinery foundations, sold under the Grouts & Anchors line of the Dr. Fixit range. Unlike the familiar cementitious non-shrink grouts (Pidigrout 10M is the in-house comparison), EG-3 S runs on epoxy chemistry — resin and hardener that cure through a chemical reaction rather than cement hydration, bulked with a graded aggregate filler mixed at site. That gives it two traits: strength in hours rather than days, and resistance to acids, alkalis, oils and solvents that eventually attack cement grout. The “S” matters — it’s dosed for 10-65 mm gaps; wider gaps call for sibling Pidigrout EG-3 L.

On Space Arc’s projects across Delhi NCR, this is the grout for jobs where a mechanical contractor specifies epoxy for a compressor, pump, turbine or DG-set foundation — where a few millimetres of movement under a running machine means vibration and unplanned shutdown. It isn’t our default for routine baseplate grouting; cementitious grout does that cheaper. EG-3 S earns its price where dynamic load or chemical exposure justify it.

The technical insight

EG-3 S cures by cross-linking liquid epoxy resin with its hardener — an exothermic reaction largely independent of ambient moisture, reaching a usable 90 N/mm² compressive strength (BS 6319-1983 Part 2, 7-day) far faster than a cementitious grout relying on cement hydration. The same matrix gives Shore D hardness of 80-85 (ASTM D2240) and flexural strength of 20-25 N/mm² (BS 6319-1983 Part 3) — behind its low creep, so a grouted machine holds alignment under vibration better than a cementitious system over years. The trade-off: pot life is only 30-40 minutes at 30°C, shorter in Delhi’s summer heat.

Where it is used

  • Base plate grouting under large air and gas compressors
  • Foundation grouting for industrial pumps and motors
  • Turbine, generator and DG-set baseplate grouting
  • Crane and gantry rail grouting, and keyway filling
  • Anchoring embedded base plates and holding-down bolts
  • Re-grouting machinery that has worked loose from vibration

Key advantages

  • Sets in 1-2 hours, formwork strippable around 6 hours — cuts machine downtime versus cementitious grout
  • High 7-day compressive strength (90 N/mm²), well ahead of typical non-shrink cementitious grouts
  • Good resistance to mineral acids, alkalis, organic acids and solvents
  • Excellent bond to both concrete and steel — matters under a vibrating baseplate
  • Low creep under sustained load, keeping machine alignment stable for years
  • Pourable across 10-65 mm gaps with no ramming or vibration compaction needed

Limitations & considerations

  • Pot life is only 30-40 minutes at 30°C — shrinks further in Delhi’s summer heat, so batches must be sized tight
  • Needs a trained applicator with a drill and paddle stirrer, not a general masonry crew
  • Costs well above cementitious non-shrink grout, so only justified where the job genuinely needs epoxy
  • Surface prep is unforgiving — residual oil, laitance or dampness causes debonding, with no fixing it after
  • Sold only as a 7.5 kg kit, so a large pour means batching several kits in sequence

Selection & best practice

Treat pot life as the schedule, not a buffer — size batches to what a crew can place inside 30-40 minutes, smaller in summer heat. Get surface prep right first: concrete sound, dry, laitance-free and scabbled; steel abraded to bright metal; formwork sealed in polythene. Mix base and hardener to a uniform colour, then add filler gradually until free-flowing — rushing traps air and weakens the grout. Pour continuously from one end, leave air-relief points open, and if depth exceeds 80 mm, place it in layers about 6 hours apart.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between Pidigrout EG-3 S and EG-3 L?
Same epoxy chemistry, but S is dosed for gaps of 10-65 mm and sets in 1-2 hours, while L handles wider 65-120 mm gaps and sets in 4-5 hours so the extra mass doesn’t overheat. Match the grade to your gap width.
Do I really need epoxy grout, or will Pidigrout 10M do the job?
For a static column baseplate, cementitious grout is cheaper and adequate. Epoxy earns its cost where there’s genuine dynamic load, chemical exposure, or a shutdown window too tight for a multi-day cementitious cure.
How much working time do I get once it’s mixed?
Pot life is 30-40 minutes at 30°C, shorter in hot weather since larger batches generate more heat. On a Delhi summer site, mix smaller batches than you think you need.
Does the surface need special preparation?
Yes. Concrete must be sound, dry and free of laitance, oil, grease or curing compound, ideally scabbled for mechanical key; steel needs abrading to bare, rust-free metal.
What temperature does it need for a proper cure?
The published figures are all referenced at 30°C. Cooler weather slows the reaction and stretches setting and curing times, so winter pours in Delhi NCR need extra time.
Can this be used inside a water tank or for potable water contact?
No — it’s formulated and tested as a machinery-foundation grout, not for potable-water contact. Ask us which waterproofing-range product carries that certification instead.

How we position Dr. Fixit Pidigrout EG-3 S

Inside Dr. Fixit’s Grouts & Anchors line, EG-3 S sits next to the cementitious Pidigrout 10M (also sold as Unigrout 505) for everyday non-shrink grouting up to about 75 mm, and its sibling Pidigrout EG-3 L, which carries the same chemistry into wider 65-120 mm gaps. The choice comes down to gap width and dynamic load, not brand preference. Where a specification allows an alternate brand, Fosroc’s Conbextra EP10 is a genuine equivalent in machine-foundation grouting, worth quoting alongside EG-3 S. As an authorised Dr. Fixit distributor and applicator, Space Arc can supply and apply either family depending on what the contractor specifies.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Conbextra EP10 — Specifiers who prefer a two-component epoxy grout system over Pidigrout’s three-part site mix, or who are already standardised on Fosroc across a project, often choose Conbextra EP10 for the same machine-foundation grouting duty.
