What is it?

A four-component (resin, hardener, graded powder and colour paste) self-levelling pigmented epoxy floor topping from STP, laid at 1-2 mm to give a monolithic, non-porous, glossy surface.

Where is it used?

Pharma plants, operation theatres and hospital corridors, dairies, breweries, food and beverage lines, electronics and control rooms, automobile workshops and showrooms.

Why use it?

It delivers a jointless, easy-to-clean floor that resists chemicals, fungal and bacterial growth, and takes nylon or rubber-wheeled traffic while staying dust-free.

How is it applied?

The primed concrete is coated with the blended mix using a notched trowel, then de-aerated with a spike roller to release trapped air and let the material flow level.

About STP ShaliFloor SL TC 4E

STP ShaliFloor SL TC 4E, formerly sold as ShaliDeck SL, is the pigmented self-levelling topcoat in STP’s ShaliFloor epoxy flooring range. It arrives as four pre-weighed parts, resin, hardener, a graded filler powder and a colour paste, that are blended on site in a fixed 20.19 : 14.69 : 61.12 : 4 ratio by weight. Once poured over a primed floor it flows out to a smooth, glass-like film between one and two millimetres thick, binding graded aggregate inside a pigmented epoxy matrix. The result is a single continuous surface with no grout lines or porous patches for dirt, spills or micro-organisms to lodge in, which is why specifiers reach for it wherever hygiene and washability are non-negotiable.

For contractors in Delhi NCR and across India, the appeal is a floor that looks clean-room finished yet stands up to real plant duty. It resists mild acids, alkalis and oils, shrugs off fungal and bacterial growth, and carries a hard-wearing epoxy body that handles nylon and rubber-wheeled trolleys, pallet movers and foot traffic day after day. Available in a range of RAL shades, it lets consultants specify a consistent house colour across a facility while still meeting food-contact expectations, having been tested by CFTRI against the 21 CFR 175-300 US FDA method. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies it as an authorised STP project distributor, so the material and the workmanship come from one accountable source.

The technical insight

The self-levelling behaviour is not magic, it is rheology. The four components are formulated so that, once mixed, the epoxy has a low enough viscosity to flow and find its own level under gravity, yet enough graded aggregate loading to build genuine film thickness and mechanical strength rather than draining thin. The installer only spreads the material to the right quantity with a notched trowel, whose notch is set to roughly double the target thickness, and surface tension does the finishing. The spike roller step is what separates a good floor from a blemished one: dragging its pins through the wet film pulls entrapped air to the surface and lets it escape before the epoxy gels, which is why pot life matters, about 20 minutes at 35 degrees Celsius and 60 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius. Cured, the cross-linked epoxy network delivers 50 MPa compressive strength, 12 MPa tensile and 17 MPa flexural at seven days, with a 2.5 MPa bond to concrete, so the topping behaves as a monolithic extension of the slab rather than a coating sitting on top of it.

Where it is used

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing floors, operation theatres and hospital and nursing-home corridors
  • Pathological laboratories, clean rooms and controlled-environment areas
  • Dairies, breweries, bottling plants and fermentation floors in tea gardens
  • Food and beverage processing units needing a washable, FDA-method-tested finish
  • Electrical and electronics industries, computer and control panel rooms
  • Picture-tube and precision manufacturing plants and textile mills
  • Automobile workshops and showrooms carrying wheeled traffic
  • Nuclear plants and oil-rig floors requiring a hygienic monolithic surface

Key advantages

  • Self-levelling flowable consistency that finishes to a smooth, monolithic surface with minimal labour
  • Non-porous and hygienic, so it resists fungal and bacterial growth and cleans easily
  • Chemical resistant to oils, mild acids and alkalis for typical plant duty
  • Hard-wearing 50 MPa body that handles nylon and rubber-wheeled industrial traffic
  • Strong 2.5 MPa bond to concrete and other substrates including Kota stone, seamless and non-staining
  • Available in a choice of RAL shades for a consistent facility colour scheme
  • Tested by CFTRI to the 21 CFR 175-300 US FDA method for food-area confidence
  • Supplied as pre-weighed four-part packs, removing site batching guesswork

Limitations & considerations

  • Not for surfaces suffering rising damp, osmosis risk or relative humidity above 75 percent
  • Must not be installed below 10 degrees Celsius or above 45 degrees Celsius
  • Not suitable over asphalt, weak or infirm concrete, unmodified sand-cement screeds, PVC tiles or sheets, or substrates that move such as steel walkways
  • On steel, an underlayment of ShaliFix RM C at minimum 5 mm is required first
  • As a 1-2 mm topping it is light-to-medium duty, not a thick high-build screed for heavy point loads
  • Being epoxy, lighter shades can fade over time under strong UV or harsh exposure, an aesthetic change only

Selection & best practice

Start with proper substrate work: mechanically grind the concrete, remove dust, oil, grease, old paint and loose particles by grinding, sand-blasting or compressed air, leave the surface slightly textured for grip and let it dry. Prime with ShaliPrime 2E and allow 6 to 8 hours until touch dry. Mix strictly to sequence, disperse the colour paste (D) fully into stirred resin (A) with a drill mixer, then add the powder (C) followed slowly by hardener (B) and mix 5 to 10 minutes to a homogeneous blend. Spread with a notched trowel whose notch is double the target thickness, anchor the material at walls, columns, trench edges and bays, then pass a long-handled spike roller to release entrapped air without leaving permanent indentation. Do not run the topping over treated expansion joints, seal those separately with ShaliSeal PS PG or ShaliSeal PU PG 2K. Respect the pot life, keep placement inside 20 to 60 minutes depending on temperature, and clean all tools immediately with xylene before the epoxy hardens. Wear gloves, eye protection and spike shoes throughout.

Frequently asked questions

How many components does ShaliFloor SL TC 4E have and can I adjust the mix?
It is a four-part system, resin, hardener, graded powder and colour paste, supplied pre-weighed. Blend the full packs in the fixed 20.19 : 14.69 : 61.12 : 4 ratio; do not part-mix or alter proportions or the cure and strength will suffer.
What thickness and coverage should I plan for?
It is laid at 1 to 2 mm with a theoretical consumption of about 1.8 to 1.9 kg per square metre. Treat that as a guide only, porous or profiled substrates and wastage push real consumption higher, so trial a small area first.
Do I need a primer?
Yes. Prime the prepared concrete with ShaliPrime 2E and let it dry 6 to 8 hours until touch dry before applying the topping. Priming is what secures the 2.5 MPa bond to the slab.
Can it go over steel or expansion joints?
Over steel you must first lay ShaliFix RM C at 5 mm minimum as an underlayment. Never carry the topping across treated expansion joints, seal those separately with ShaliSeal PS PG or ShaliSeal PU PG 2K.
Is it safe for food-processing areas?
It has been tested by CFTRI against the 21 CFR 175-300 US FDA method and provides a hygienic, non-porous, easy-clean surface, which is why it is widely specified for dairies, breweries and food units.
When can traffic go back on the floor?
At 30 degrees C expect foot traffic after about 24 hours, vehicular traffic after 48 hours and full chemical and mechanical cure at 7 days. Cooler conditions extend these times.

How we position STP ShaliFloor SL TC 4E

ShaliFloor SL TC 4E is the pigmented self-levelling topcoat in STP’s ShaliFloor epoxy range and rarely goes down alone. Pair it with ShaliPrime 2E as the mandatory primer, ShaliFix RM C where the substrate is steel, and ShaliSeal PS PG or ShaliSeal PU PG 2K to treat expansion joints. Within the same STP family, step up to ShaliFloor SL AS 3 E for anti-static areas or ShaliFloor 3E SL ASC for fully conductive floors, choose ShaliFloor SL NES TC (glass-flake novolac) for aggressive chemical exposure, or specify ShaliFloor SL UL 3 ES as a self-levelling underlay under this topping on uneven slabs. Where a client standardises on another brand, Space Arc also supplies comparable epoxy flooring systems from Fosroc (Nitoflor), Sika (Sikafloor) and MC-Bauchemie, so we can match an approved-vendor list without compromising the specification.
