STP ShaliPrime 2E LC
Two-component, solvent-based, moisture-insensitive epoxy primer that seals concrete and steel before epoxy or PU flooring, screeds and protective coatings.
What is it?
A 2K solvent-based epoxy primer from STP Limited, formulated to be moisture-insensitive so it bonds reliably to prepared concrete and metal, including vertical surfaces.
Where is it used?
Under epoxy and PU floor toppings, screeds, repair mortars and protective coatings — industrial floors, traffic decks, car parks, cold stores, hospitals, F&B plants and structural steel.
Why use it?
It penetrates and seals porous substrates, stops air release that causes pinholes in the finished topping, and delivers 1.6 MPa adhesion to concrete at 7 days.
How is it applied?
Mix Part A and B (82:18 by weight), apply by brush, roller, spray or squeegee at 0.3-0.4 kg/m² on concrete, then overcoat within 6-12 hours.
About STP ShaliPrime 2E LC
Every resin floor lives or dies at the primer coat, and ShaliPrime 2E LC is STP Limited’s workhorse for exactly that stage. It is a two-component epoxy carried in solvent, which keeps viscosity low enough to soak into an abraded concrete surface, wet out the pore structure and lock in as a continuous sealing film 75-150 microns thick. Because the chemistry is moisture-insensitive, it keeps bonding on substrates that hold residual dampness — the everyday reality on Indian sites where slabs rarely get ideal drying windows — provided moisture content stays below 5 percent and there is no rising dampness.
For contractors, the practical appeal is its dual role. The same 30 kg pack primes both concrete and blast-cleaned steel, so a project team laying an epoxy screed on the floor and coating adjacent structural steel or machine bases carries one primer instead of two. Touch-dry in 1-2 hours and overcoatable in 6-12, it fits an overnight prime-and-topcoat cycle, and its brownish colour makes coverage easy to inspect before the next coat goes down.
The technical insight
Porous concrete is full of entrapped air. Lay a thick epoxy topping straight onto it and rising temperature during cure pushes that air out through the wet resin, leaving pinholes and blisters. ShaliPrime 2E LC works by getting there first: the solvent carrier thins the epoxy so it is drawn into capillaries and blowholes, then flashes off, leaving roughly 65 percent volume solids of cured resin keyed into the surface. That film does three jobs at once — it blocks the air path, it starves the topping of suction so the finish coat holds its designed thickness, and it presents a chemically compatible epoxy surface for the next layer to fuse to. The measured result is 1.6 MPa adhesion to concrete at 7 days, which is at the tensile capacity of sound concrete itself, meaning failure shifts into the substrate rather than the bond line.
Where it is used
- Priming concrete before epoxy or PU floor toppings, self-levellers and screeds
- Traffic deck systems for heavy-duty vehicular loading
- Ramps, car parks, parking bays, pedestrian walkways and roof decks
- Industrial floors in factories, warehouses, cold stores and hangars
- Hygiene-critical floors in laboratories, hospitals, kitchens, dairies and food and beverage plants
- Primer for epoxy or polyurethane protective coatings on blast-cleaned steel
- Sealing porous substrates before epoxy repair mortars
- Wall surfaces receiving epoxy or PU coating systems
Key advantages
- Moisture-insensitive bond — tolerates residual substrate dampness up to 5% moisture content
- One primer for both concrete and metal, simplifying site inventory
- Prevents air release from porous slabs, so toppings finish free of pinholes and bubbles
- 1.6 MPa adhesion to concrete at 7 days — failure moves into the substrate, not the bond line
- Fast turnaround: touch-dry in 1-2 hours, overcoatable in 6-12 hours, foot traffic in 1 day
- Withstands occasional 120°C exposure, so it survives steam-cleaning regimes
- Spot-test resistant to acids and alkalis once cured
- Applies by brush, roller, spray or squeegee — no specialist equipment
Limitations & considerations
- Solvent-based: needs well-ventilated application areas and is not the pick where solvent odour is unacceptable — use a solvent-free primer there
- Not for substrates with rising dampness, osmosis risk or relative humidity above 75%
- Unsuitable over asphalt, weak or friable concrete, unmodified sand-cement screeds, PVC tiles or substrates that move, such as steel walkways
- Typically not recommended for exterior slabs on grade exposed to freeze-thaw cycling
- Pot life is about 2 hours at 27°C — mix only what the crew can place, as cured material can only be removed mechanically
- Highly porous concrete absorbs it quickly, leaving dry patches that need a second priming coat
Selection & best practice
Preparation decides the outcome. Concrete must be at least 28 days old, mechanically prepared by abrasive blasting or scarifying to remove laitance and open the texture, with blowholes exposed and all dust vacuumed off. Steel should be blast-cleaned to ISO Sa 2½ and primed immediately, before flash rusting starts. Keep substrate and ambient temperature between +10°C and +40°C and substrate moisture below 5 percent. Stir Part A, add all of Part B, and mix for 3 minutes with a low-speed stirrer (300-400 rpm); let the mix stand 5 minutes to release entrapped air, then transfer to a fresh container and remix briefly. Apply by brush, roller, spray or squeegee at 0.3-0.4 kg/m² on concrete or 0.2-0.3 kg/m² on metal. Watch porous areas — light-coloured dry patches mean the primer has been absorbed and those zones need a second coat. Allow 6-12 hours (or overnight) before overcoating, and protect the film from oil, chemicals and mechanical stress until full cure at 7 days. Clean tools immediately with STP Thinner.

Industry use cases
Manufacturing & Warehousing
Primes factory, warehouse and hangar slabs before epoxy screeds and self-levelling toppings, sealing porous concrete so heavy-duty finishes cure pinhole-free.
Car Parks & Traffic Decks
First coat in heavy-duty deck coating systems on ramps, parking bays and roof decks, where bond strength under wheel loads is non-negotiable.
Food, Pharma & Healthcare
Base layer for hygienic flooring in dairies, kitchens, F&B plants, laboratories and hospitals; its 120°C occasional resistance suits steam-cleaned areas.
Cold Chain
Used on cold-store floors where residual slab moisture is common — the moisture-insensitive chemistry keeps adhesion dependable on damp-but-sound concrete.
Structural Steel & Plant Equipment
Direct-to-metal primer after blast cleaning, ahead of epoxy or PU protective coatings on steelwork, machine bases and plant structures.

How we position STP ShaliPrime 2E LC
Within the STP flooring family, ShaliPrime 2E LC is the damp-tolerant, concrete-plus-metal option: choose ShaliPrime 2E where a polyamide-cured primer-cum-sealer coat is specified, ShaliPrime 2E SF where solvent-free application is mandatory, and ShaliPrime 2E ASC under antistatic flooring. It pairs naturally with STP toppings such as ShaliFloor Screed and ShaliFloor SL TC 2E. Space Arc supplies the full STP range alongside Fosroc, Sika and Dr. Fixit systems, so we can match the primer to whichever flooring system your consultant has specified rather than force-fit one brand.
Fosroc Nitoprime 25 — Specifiers running a Fosroc Nitoflor flooring system will normally call for Nitoprime 25 as the matching system primer, keeping the whole build-up under one manufacturer’s warranty.
