Fosroc Nitocote EP415
Two-component, solvent-free high-build epoxy coating and glass-fibre lamination system for chemical and abrasion protection of concrete and steel in tanks, refineries, reservoirs and effluent structures.
What is it?
A two-component, 100% solids (solvent-free) thixotropic epoxy resin coating and lamination system that builds a tough, impermeable, chemically resistant film on concrete and steel, with or without glass-fibre reinforcement.
Where is it used?
Lining and protection of concrete or metal storage tanks, refinery and oil-field structures, paper-industry vessels, water and effluent treatment plants, tunnels and reservoirs.
Why use it?
Delivers excellent chemical and abrasion resistance at 100% solids with zero solvent, is thixotropic for clean vertical application, and can be laminated with glass cloth to bridge fine cracks and add mechanical strength.
How is it applied?
Apply over a cured, blast-cleaned and primed substrate in two coats at 0.25 L/m2 per coat (250 microns WFT each) to reach a minimum 500-micron dry film; optionally embed open-weave glass cloth into the wet first coat before recoating.
About Fosroc Nitocote EP415
Fosroc Nitocote EP415 is a two-component, solvent-free, high-build epoxy resin coating and lamination system engineered to protect concrete and steel exposed to aggressive chemical and abrasive service. It is supplied as a base and hardener in pre-weighed packs that are blended on site, so there is no field measuring or guesswork. Because it is 100% volume solids and contains no solvent, the applied film cures without solvent loss, shrinkage cracking or trapped vapour, which makes it well suited to enclosed structures such as tanks, sumps and tunnels where solvent emission is a safety and ventilation concern. The mixed material is deliberately thixotropic, so it holds on vertical walls and overhead soffits without sagging and lays down to a uniform, gap-free film. The cured coating is clear and light in colour by design, which lets the applicator see the glass-fibre reinforcement through the film and confirm full wet-out during inspection. Nitocote EP415 sits in the same protective-lining family as Fosroc’s Nitocote EP405 (a potable-water-grade solvent-free epoxy) and the Nitoflor and Nitomortar epoxy ranges, and is intended for the chemical-resistance and tank-lining segment of that portfolio. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies Nitocote EP415 together with its specified Fosroc primers and ancillaries, and provides specification support and on-site guidance for asset owners, EPC contractors and consultants who need a documented, single-source lining system.
The technical insight
Nitocote EP415 is a 100% volume-solids epoxy, so the 250-micron wet film applied per coat is essentially the dry film as well, and two coats reliably deliver the specified minimum 500-micron DFT without the solvent-loss thinning that plagues solvent-borne tank linings. The thixotropy is the key technical lever: it allows the 250-micron-per-coat build on vertical and overhead surfaces in a single pass and supports glass-cloth lamination, where 110 to 450 g/m2 open-weave cloth is pressed into the wet first coat to bridge fine substrate cracks and add tensile reinforcement before the second coat encapsulates it. Pot life is temperature-sensitive and short in heat (roughly 60 minutes at 20C dropping to about 15 minutes at 35C for the standard grade), so mixed batches must be sized to what can be laid within the working window, and a slow-speed paddle mix of at least three minutes is needed to fully homogenise base and hardener. The system is a primer-dependent build: concrete is grit-blasted and primed with Nitoprime 30 (low-temperature) or Nitoprime 31 (normal), while steel is blast-cleaned to Sa 2.5 and primed with single-component Nitoprime Zinc Rich at 135 microns wet, after which EP415 is overcoated within the 4-hour-to-7-day window. Documented immersion resistance covers detergents, 30% hydrochloric acid, 20% sulphuric acid, 10% nitric and lactic acids, 50% caustic soda, mineral oil and petrol, with only slight attack noted under continuous immersion in higher fatty acids and 10% sodium hypochlorite.
Where it is used
- Internal and external lining of concrete and steel storage tanks in oil fields and refineries
- Chemical and abrasion protection in pulp and paper process vessels
- Lining of water-purification, effluent and wastewater treatment structures
- Protective coating for tunnels, culverts and reservoir walls
- Glass-fibre-reinforced lamination over fine-cracked or movement-prone concrete substrates
- Containment bunds, sumps and secondary spill-containment areas exposed to chemical splash and spray
- Refurbishment and overcoating of previously EP415-lined surfaces after mechanical abrasion
Key advantages
- 100% volume solids and solvent-free, so it cures without shrinkage, solvent entrapment or VOC ventilation problems in enclosed tanks
- Excellent chemical resistance across a broad range of acids, alkalis, oils and solvents under immersion, splash and spray
- Strong abrasion resistance for high-wear process and containment surfaces
- Thixotropic consistency permits 250-micron-per-coat build on vertical and overhead surfaces without sagging
- Can be reinforced with 110 to 450 g/m2 glass cloth to bridge fine cracks and boost mechanical and tensile properties
- Clear, light-coloured cured film lets applicators verify glass-fibre wet-out and film continuity during inspection
- Supplied in pre-weighed base-and-hardener packs that eliminate on-site batching errors
- Works on both steel and concrete with a defined, fully-supported Fosroc primer system
Limitations & considerations
- Short pot life in hot conditions (about 15 minutes at 35C for the standard grade) demands disciplined batch sizing and fast application
- Strictly primer-dependent: requires Nitoprime 30/31 on concrete and Nitoprime Zinc Rich on Sa 2.5 blast-cleaned steel, adding steps and cost
- Must not be applied above 85% relative humidity, and cure slows sharply below about 20C with a 7C lower application limit
- Accelerated heating to force cure is not permitted, which can extend programmes in cold weather
- Demands rigorous surface preparation (grit/sand blasting, laitance and contamination removal) for the film to perform
- Materials are flammable (flash point 65C) and require ignition-source control and ventilation during application
- Light, clear finish is functional rather than decorative and is not a UV-stable or colour-matched topcoat
- This datasheet is the Middle East (Fosam) formulation; the India-supplied grade and exact pack data should be confirmed against the current local TDS
Selection & best practice
Build the system as specified rather than as a single thick film. Grit-blast concrete (or blast steel to Sa 2.5), fill blowholes and imperfections with Nitomortar FC or TC2000, and prime correctly: Nitoprime 30/31 on concrete or Nitoprime Zinc Rich at 135 microns wet on steel, then overcoat within the stated windows (primer cured no more than 24 hours on concrete; EP415 within 4 hours to 7 days on the zinc-rich primer). Size each mixed batch to what the crew can lay before pot life expires, paddle-mix base into hardener for at least three minutes, and apply two coats at 0.25 L/m2 each to hit the 250-micron WFT per coat and the 500-micron minimum DFT. Where crack-bridging or extra build is needed, lay 110 to 450 g/m2 open-weave glass cloth into the wet first coat, press out with a stiff nylon brush or split-washer roller to remove air, and recoat within the time-between-coats window. Do not apply above 85% RH, keep cold-weather materials in a heated store, never force-cure with heat, and expose and seal movement joints separately with an appropriate Fosroc sealant. Always confirm chemical resistance for the specific service medium with the local Fosroc office before specifying.

How we position Fosroc Nitocote EP415
Nitocote EP415 is Fosroc’s solvent-free epoxy answer for chemical- and abrasion-resistant tank lining and lamination, and it sits alongside related Fosroc systems that Space Arc also supplies: Nitocote EP405 (a solvent-free epoxy more oriented to potable-water and general lining duty), the Nitoflor epoxy floor coatings for trafficked industrial floors, and the Nitomortar epoxy repair mortars used to reinstate the substrate before lining. Its distinguishing features are the thixotropic high-build consistency for vertical and overhead work and the integral glass-cloth lamination option for crack-bridging, which set it apart from thinner brush-applied epoxies. Specifiers comparing options will reasonably evaluate it against Sika’s epoxy lining range (such as Sikagard and Sikafloor chemical-resistant systems), STP Limited tank-lining and protective coatings, MBS (Maris/Metro) industrial epoxy linings, and, for lighter-duty or smaller projects, Dr. Fixit protective coatings. EP415 typically wins where a documented, primer-supported, glass-reinforced solvent-free epoxy lining is required for aggressive immersion and splash service on both concrete and steel. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies EP415 with its specified Nitoprime primers and Nitomortar repair products as a single accountable system, and recommends confirming the current India-supplied formulation, pack sizes and chemical-resistance data against the latest local TDS, since the figures here are drawn from the Fosam (Middle East) datasheet.
