What is it?

A two-component, epoxy-polyurethane (PU/epoxy hybrid) resin, self-smoothing floor topping supplied in conductive and dissipative grades that controls static electricity by providing a continuous, low-resistance path to earth.

Where is it used?

Electronics manufacturing and assembly lines, cleanrooms, computer and server rooms, hospital operating theatres, pharmaceutical production, and hazardous dust, solvent or explosive-risk zones where uncontrolled static is a fire, explosion or product-damage risk.

Why use it?

It eliminates electrostatic discharge (ESD) risk while delivering a dense, seamless, hygienic and chemically resistant floor that is far tougher and more flexible than a plain epoxy, reducing scrap, downtime and ignition hazard.

How is it applied?

Over a primed, sound concrete substrate, a conductive copper earthing network is laid, a conductive/dissipative undercoat is applied, and the pigmented self-smoothing topcoat is trowel- or squeegee-applied at nominal 2 mm and earthed back to the building ground.

About Fosroc Nitoflor EPU Conductive & Dissipative

Fosroc Nitoflor EPU Conductive & Dissipative is a purpose-built electrostatic-control flooring system from the Nitoflor industrial flooring range. It is an epoxy-polyurethane resin hybrid — combining the chemical and abrasion resistance of epoxy with the flexibility, toughness and impact tolerance of polyurethane — formulated as a self-smoothing (self-levelling) topping that cures to a dense, impervious, seamless surface. The product is offered in two electrical grades: a Conductive grade for areas demanding the lowest resistance-to-earth (for example explosive-atmosphere and ammunition handling areas), and a Dissipative grade where a controlled, higher resistance is preferred to avoid rapid discharge in electronics-sensitive zones. Both grades work as a system: a conductive primer/undercoat plus an embedded copper earthing grid create the continuous discharge path beneath the visible coloured wearing layer. Supplied as pre-weighed two-component packs ready for on-site mixing, it is applied as a two-coat application over correctly prepared concrete. For contractors, consultants and procurement teams in India, the system matters because static control is not an optional finish in semiconductor fabs, SMT lines, pharma cleanrooms, defence and propellant facilities, or solvent stores — it is a safety- and yield-critical specification. A floor that loses its path to earth can damage sensitive components, corrupt data hardware, or, in the worst case, ignite a flammable atmosphere. Nitoflor EPU delivers that protection in a single coordinated package backed by Fosroc’s technical support, while also giving the cleanability and durability an industrial floor needs day to day. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies the full system across Delhi NCR and Pan-India as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator.

The technical insight

The performance of any ESD floor lives or dies on its measured electrical resistance to earth, and this is where the Conductive and Dissipative grades genuinely differ. Following recognised ESD classification (as used by the EOS/ESD Association and IEC 61340), a conductive flooring material exhibits resistance to ground of roughly 1.0 x 10^6 ohms or less, while a dissipative material sits above 1.0 x 10^6 and below 1.0 x 10^9 ohms — slow enough to bleed charge away without a sudden, damaging discharge. Nitoflor EPU achieves this not through the topcoat alone but through a layered system: a conductive undercoat (consuming roughly 4.0 m2/litre in the Conductive grade and 5.5 m2/litre in the Dissipative grade) sits over a copper earthing tape grid that is physically bonded back to the building’s earth at defined intervals. The pigmented self-smoothing topcoat is then laid at a nominal 2 mm, with each 15-litre pack covering about 7.5 m2 at that thickness. Because the conductive path runs through the body of the system, kerb-to-kerb continuity and correctly terminated earth points are as important as the resin chemistry — a single broken earth connection can take a whole bay out of specification. The epoxy-polyurethane hybrid backbone is what lets the floor stay flexible and crack-bridging under thermal and impact stress while resisting the cleaning chemicals and traffic of a 24/7 plant. Verified resistance values should always be read from the current region-specific Fosroc technical datasheet and confirmed by on-site testing after installation.

Where it is used

  • Electronics and semiconductor manufacturing and SMT assembly lines requiring ESD protection
  • Cleanrooms and controlled-environment suites in pharma, electronics and optics
  • Computer rooms, server halls and data-centre support areas
  • Hospital operating theatres and critical-care suites where static and hygiene both matter
  • Hazardous-area flooring in solvent, paint and flammable-dust handling zones
  • Defence, ammunition, propellant and explosive-storage facilities demanding conductive floors
  • Battery, capacitor and PCB production areas
  • Telecom and instrumentation control rooms

Key advantages

  • Dual grades — Conductive and Dissipative — let the floor be matched precisely to the required resistance-to-earth band
  • Provides a continuous, reliable path to earth via a copper earthing grid and conductive undercoat, controlling ESD risk
  • Epoxy-polyurethane hybrid is tougher, more flexible and more impact-tolerant than a plain epoxy conductive floor
  • Dense, impervious, seamless self-smoothing finish that is hygienic and easy to clean — suited to cleanrooms and theatres
  • Good chemical and abrasion resistance for demanding 24/7 industrial duty
  • Available in a range of colours for zoning and brightness
  • Supplied as pre-weighed two-component packs for accurate, repeatable site mixing
  • Backed by Fosroc technical support and applied by trained Space Arc applicators across India

Limitations & considerations

  • Performance depends on a correctly installed and terminated copper earthing network — a single broken earth point can take an area out of specification
  • Conductive properties must be verified by resistance testing after installation, not assumed from the product alone
  • Requires a sound, dry, contaminant-free and adequately strong concrete substrate; existing power-floated or contaminated slabs need mechanical preparation
  • Not a DIY product — needs experienced applicators for the multi-layer build and earthing
  • Like most resin floors, sensitive to substrate moisture / rising damp and to application outside the recommended temperature and humidity window
  • Continuous strong UV exposure can affect appearance; primarily an internal flooring system
  • Exact resistance, strength and cure figures vary by region and grade and must be read from the current Fosroc datasheet

Selection & best practice

Specify the grade by required resistance-to-earth, not by name alone: choose the Conductive grade for explosive-atmosphere, ammunition and flammable-dust areas, and the Dissipative grade for electronics-sensitive zones where a slower bleed-off is preferred. Start with a structurally sound, dry concrete slab (test for moisture and, where rising damp is possible, install a suitable damp-proof or surface DPM first). Mechanically prepare the surface by shot-blasting or grinding to a clean, open texture, then prime. Lay the copper earthing tape grid to the design layout and connect it to the building earth at the specified number of points — typically at least two independent earth terminations per area for redundancy. Apply the conductive/dissipative undercoat at the stated coverage, then the self-smoothing topcoat at the nominal 2 mm, maintaining wet edges to keep the floor seamless and electrically continuous. After full cure, carry out resistance-to-earth testing across the floor to confirm the installed system meets the target band, and document the readings for the client and any audit. Always work to the current region-specific Fosroc technical datasheet and method statement, and let an authorised applicator such as Space Arc execute the earthing and topping.

Solvent and paint stores and process bays use the conductive grade to safely earth static while resisting chemical attack and heavy traffic.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Conductive and Dissipative grades of Nitoflor EPU?
Both control static, but the resistance to earth differs. The Conductive grade gives the lowest resistance (around 1.0 x 10^6 ohms or less) for the fastest, most positive discharge — used in explosive and ammunition areas. The Dissipative grade has a controlled higher resistance (above 1.0 x 10^6 and below 1.0 x 10^9 ohms) that bleeds charge away more slowly, which is preferred around sensitive electronics. Always confirm the target band against your application’s standard.
How thick is the floor and how much does a pack cover?
The self-smoothing topcoat is applied at a nominal 2 mm, with roughly 7.5 m2 of coverage per 15-litre pack at that thickness. The conductive undercoat covers about 4.0 m2 per litre and the dissipative undercoat about 5.5 m2 per litre. Actual usage depends on substrate texture and porosity.
Does it need a copper earthing grid?
Yes. The system relies on a network of copper earthing tape laid under the floor and a conductive/dissipative undercoat, all bonded back to the building’s earth at defined points. The earthing network is what creates the continuous path to ground, so its correct installation and termination are as critical as the resin itself.
What substrate and preparation does it require?
A sound, dry, structurally adequate concrete slab is required. Surfaces should be mechanically prepared — typically shot-blasting or grinding — to remove laitance and contamination and open the texture, then primed. Where rising damp is possible, a moisture check and suitable damp-proofing should be done before installation.
How is its anti-static performance verified after installation?
By measuring resistance to earth across the finished floor using ESD test methods (per IEC 61340 / EOS-ESD practice) once the floor is fully cured. The readings must fall within the specified conductive or dissipative band. Space Arc documents these readings for client records and audits — the product alone does not guarantee compliance without correct earthing and testing.
Where can I buy and get it installed in India?
Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator covering Delhi NCR and Pan-India. We supply the Conductive and Dissipative grades, the conductive undercoat and earthing materials, and provide trained applicators plus post-installation resistance testing to confirm the floor meets specification.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor EPU Conductive & Dissipative

Nitoflor EPU Conductive & Dissipative sits at the premium, high-performance end of Fosroc’s static-control flooring range. Within the Fosroc family it is the epoxy-polyurethane hybrid option, offering more flexibility, toughness and impact resistance than the related Nitoflor SL Conductive / Dissipative (a pure epoxy self-levelling ESD floor) and the Nitoflor SL Conductive Plus system — both of which Space Arc also supplies and which may be more economical where the extra PU toughness is not required. It is typically built over a Nitoprime / Nitoflor primer and used alongside Fosroc surface preparation and joint products. Against credible alternatives, Sika offers comparable ESD systems such as Sikafloor conductive and dissipative ranges, MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (formerly BASF) the Mastertop / Ucrete ESD lines, STP (Sun Tech / STP Ltd) regional anti-static epoxy floors, and Dr. Fixit / Pidilite competes more in waterproofing and general epoxy flooring than in specialist ESD toppings. The honest position: choose Nitoflor EPU when you need a genuinely ESD-rated floor with the durability and flexibility of a PU hybrid, and where Fosroc’s technical backing and an authorised applicator’s earthing and testing discipline matter. For lighter-duty static control on a budget, the Nitoflor SL epoxy grades or equivalent Sika/MBS systems can be a sensible alternative — but the deciding factor should always be the verified resistance-to-earth your application standard demands, confirmed by post-installation testing, not the brand name on the pack.
