Fosroc Nitoflor PUW100
A clear, water-based polyurethane seal coat that protects epoxy floors with a low-sheen matt finish, improved abrasion resistance and excellent UV stability.
What is it?
A single-component, water-dispersed polyurethane varnish used as a transparent matt seal coat over cured epoxy floor systems. It is a protective topcoat, not a build-up or screed layer.
Where is it used?
Applied as the final wearing seal on epoxy-coated floors in warehouses, manufacturing units, pharma and food plants, showrooms, commercial spaces and any area where a hygienic, easy-clean, low-odour finish is required.
Why use it?
It adds abrasion resistance, UV stability and a non-yellowing matt appearance to epoxy floors while staying fully transparent, so it protects the colour and texture beneath rather than masking it. Being water-based, it has almost no smell, which suits occupied and indoor sites.
How is it applied?
Applied directly over cured epoxy by brush, roller or spray – no primer needed on a sound cured epoxy layer. Typical coverage is about 10 m2 per litre per coat at 100 microns wet film (roughly 45 microns dry film), supplied in 5 litre packs.
About Fosroc Nitoflor PUW100
Fosroc Nitoflor PUW100 is a clear, water-based polyurethane seal coat designed to finish and protect epoxy floor systems. Where the epoxy provides the colour, build and chemical body of the floor, PUW100 sits on top as a thin transparent sacrificial wearing layer. It cures to a low-sheen matt film that improves how the floor handles foot and light wheeled traffic, resists scuffing and abrasion, and – because it is a polyurethane – holds up far better than epoxy alone to UV light and the gradual yellowing that affects pure epoxy surfaces near daylight. For Indian projects this is a practical, often overlooked detail: a high-build epoxy floor can look excellent on handover and then dull, scratch or discolour within months in a busy warehouse or a showroom with skylights. A PU seal coat like PUW100 is the standard answer to that problem. The product is water-dispersed rather than solvent-borne, so application is essentially odour-free and far more tolerable for occupied buildings, food and pharma areas, retail spaces and any site where ventilation is limited or solvent smell is unacceptable. It needs no separate primer over a properly cured, clean epoxy layer and can be laid by brush, roller or airless/conventional spray, which keeps it flexible for both small touch-up areas and large warehouse bays. The finish stays completely transparent on curing, preserving the texture and tone of the epoxy underneath, so it is equally suited to plain industrial grey floors and to decorative or coloured epoxy where the client wants the look protected, not changed.
The technical insight
The functional point of PUW100 is the chemistry split between body and surface. Epoxy resin systems give excellent adhesion, chemical resistance and mechanical strength, but their aromatic backbone makes them prone to UV chalking, ambering and surface gloss-burn, and a cured epoxy gloss can be slippery and scuff-prone. A water-based aliphatic-type polyurethane topcoat addresses exactly those weaknesses: it brings UV stability, a controllable matt sheen, and a tougher, more scuff-tolerant wearing face, while remaining thin enough (around 45 microns dry) that it does not compromise the epoxy’s bond to the slab. Two site-critical details follow from this. First, the epoxy must be fully cured and clean before PUW100 goes down – the seal coat relies on inter-coat adhesion to the epoxy, so contamination, amine blush or an under-cured base will undermine it. Second, because it is a thin protective film, PUW100 is a maintenance-renewable layer: in heavy-traffic zones it can be re-applied periodically to refresh wear resistance without re-doing the whole epoxy floor, which is a strong whole-life-cost argument for facilities teams.
Where it is used
- Final matt seal coat over cured epoxy floors in warehouses and distribution centres
- Protective topcoat for coloured or decorative epoxy in showrooms and retail interiors
- Hygienic, easy-clean finish for pharmaceutical, food and beverage processing areas
- UV-stable topcoat for epoxy floors exposed to skylights, glazing or indirect daylight
- Abrasion-refresh layer re-applied over worn epoxy in high-traffic aisles
- Low-odour sealing for occupied commercial spaces, offices and institutional floors
- Anti-scuff topcoat for light-to-medium duty manufacturing and assembly floors
Key advantages
- Water-based and virtually odour-free, making it suitable for occupied, indoor and poorly ventilated areas
- Stays completely transparent on curing, protecting the colour and texture of the epoxy beneath
- Polyurethane chemistry gives strong UV resistance and resists the yellowing typical of pure epoxy
- Low-sheen matt finish that solvent and oil-based coatings struggle to achieve
- Good abrasion and scuff resistance for foot and light wheeled traffic
- No separate primer required over a sound, cured epoxy layer
- Applies easily by brush, roller or spray, suiting both patch repairs and large areas
- Thin, renewable wearing layer that can be re-coated to extend floor life without redoing the epoxy
Limitations & considerations
- A thin protective seal coat, not a structural, self-levelling or build-up flooring layer
- Performs as a topcoat only – it must be applied over a properly cured, sound epoxy base, not bare concrete as a primary floor
- Not intended for heavy-duty chemical immersion or severe mechanical abuse zones, which need a thicker epoxy or PU screed
- As a water-based film it needs controlled temperature and humidity during application and cure; very damp or cold conditions slow film formation
- Coverage and film thickness depend on epoxy surface profile and application method, so site trials and DFT checks are advised
- Inter-coat adhesion depends on a clean, contamination-free epoxy surface – oil, dust or amine blush must be removed first
- Detailed cure, recoat and chemical-resistance figures should be confirmed against the current region-specific Fosroc datasheet before specification
Selection & best practice
Confirm the epoxy base is fully cured, clean and free of oil, dust and amine blush, then lightly abrade or de-gloss any high-sheen epoxy to key the surface. Check ambient and substrate temperature and humidity are within the datasheet window, since a water-based film needs the moisture to evaporate cleanly. Apply PUW100 in thin, even coats by roller or spray at roughly 10 m2/litre per coat (about 100 microns wet, 45 microns dry), maintaining a wet edge to avoid lap marks, and allow the recommended recoat interval before a second coat where extra durability is wanted. Always run a small trial area first to verify adhesion, sheen and coverage over your specific epoxy, and protect the floor from traffic and water until fully cured. Always work to the current India/region Fosroc Technical Data Sheet for the exact mixing, recoat and curing figures.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor PUW100
Within the Fosroc range, Nitoflor PUW100 sits at the finishing end of an epoxy flooring build-up: the body of the floor is typically a Nitoflor self-levelling or coating system such as Nitoflor SL2000/SL3000 or the Nitoflor FC series, while PUW100 is the clear water-based PU seal that protects and matts that surface. It is distinct from Fosroc’s solvent-borne or coloured PU topcoats and from concrete densifiers like Nitoflor Lithurin, which harden bare concrete rather than seal epoxy. For specifiers comparing brands in India, the equivalent role – a water-based clear PU seal over epoxy – is offered by Sika (Sikafloor PU seal and topcoat grades), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (Mastertop PU topcoats), and the broader STP and Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) industrial flooring ranges, though Dr. Fixit and STP are more commonly specified for waterproofing and concrete protection than for high-end epoxy floor topcoats. PUW100’s strongest selling points against these alternatives are its near-odourless water-based formulation, genuine matt transparency and UV stability over epoxy. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering can specify PUW100 as part of a complete Nitoflor epoxy floor system and advise on the right base coat, surface preparation and maintenance re-coat cycle for your facility.
