Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer
The finishing seal coat that closes pinholes, revives matrix colour and adds a hard-wearing layer to Fosroc’s heavy-duty epoxy terrazzo floors.
What is it?
Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer is the dedicated sealer-coat component of Fosroc’s Nitoflor ETerrazzo decorative epoxy terrazzo flooring system — applied as the final two coats over a ground and polished terrazzo screed.
Where is it used?
Internal high-footfall, high-aesthetic floors: airport lounges, metro and railway terminals, hospitals, shopping malls, educational institutions, convention centres and prestige commercial interiors.
Why use it?
It seals residual micro-pinholes left after grinding, brings back the true colour of the dulled matrix, and adds a hard-wearing wearing layer so the seamless terrazzo surface stays hygienic, easily cleaned and chemical-resistant.
How is it applied?
Brush or roller applied in two coats over a thoroughly cleaned, dry, polished terrazzo surface, with a 12–24 hour overcoating interval between coats; coverage is 40 m²/litre/coat.
About Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer
Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer is not a standalone floor coating — it is the finishing seal coat that completes the Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo system, a heavy-duty, solvent-free, multi-component epoxy terrazzo flooring system. The terrazzo body itself is a trowel-applied epoxy matrix loaded with decorative aggregates (marble, granite, recycled clear and coloured glass, mother of pearl) laid at 8–12 mm and then mechanically ground down by roughly 2 mm to expose the aggregate, leaving a 6–10 mm seamless decorative floor. That grinding and polishing process, while it reveals the design, leaves the surface slightly dull and dotted with microscopic pinholes. The sealer is what resolves both issues.
Applied as the very last operation in two coats, the sealer penetrates and closes the residual micro-pinholes, restores the depth and saturation of the matrix colour that the abrasive process flattens, and lays down a sacrificial wearing layer that protects the decorative surface beneath. The result is the glossy, jointless, hygienic terrazzo look specifiers expect — a finish that can be wet-mopped, withstands heavy foot traffic and resists the chemical splashes common in hospitals, food courts and transit hubs.
For architects, consultants and procurement teams in India, the important point is that this product is specified by the litre as part of a complete Fosroc system rather than bought in isolation. It works only over a correctly primed (Nitoprime 31), screeded, grouted, ground and polished Nitoflor ETerrazzo floor. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator covering Delhi NCR and pan-India, supplies the sealer together with the rest of the system and the trained terrazzo operatives the application demands.
The technical insight
The sealer is a solvent-based epoxy finish — this is evident from its 30°C flash point and its classification as flammable in the Fosroc TDS, which distinguishes it from the solvent-free epoxy resin body of the terrazzo screed itself. That solvent carrier is deliberate: it lets the sealer wet out and penetrate the residual micro-pinholes left after diamond polishing rather than simply bridging over them, which is why it doubles as a colour-reviving coat. Two coats at 40 m²/litre/coat with a 12–24 hour overcoat window build a thin, hard wearing film keyed into the polished matrix. The wider Nitoflor ETerrazzo system it finishes is NTMA-compliant (National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association) and delivers a system compressive strength of 75 N/mm² (ASTM C579), neat-resin compressive strength of 70 N/mm² (ASTM C695), pull-off adhesion of 2.5 N/mm² with failure occurring in the concrete substrate, and abrasion loss of just 18 mg per 1000 cycles (ASTM D4060, CS17/1 kg) — so the sealer is protecting a genuinely hard-wearing decorative floor, not a cosmetic topping. Fosroc also notes that for certain matt or ‘honed’ aesthetic effects an unsealed surface may be specified, in which case the local Fosroc technical department should be consulted for an alternative finish.
Where it is used
- Final seal coat over Nitoflor ETerrazzo decorative epoxy terrazzo floors in airport lounges and departure halls
- Sealing polished terrazzo concourses in metro, railway and bus terminals where footfall and wet cleaning are constant
- Hospital and healthcare corridors and atria requiring a seamless, hygienic, easily disinfected surface
- Shopping malls, retail concourses and showrooms where colour vibrancy and gloss of the matrix are a design priority
- Educational institutions — university foyers, libraries and circulation areas needing durable decorative flooring
- Convention centres, hotel lobbies and prestige commercial interiors with branded logos or inlaid designs in the terrazzo
- Re-sealing / maintenance re-coats on existing Nitoflor ETerrazzo floors where the wearing layer has been polished thin by long-term traffic
Key advantages
- Closes residual micro-pinholes left after grinding and polishing, giving a fully sealed, non-porous decorative surface
- Revives the true colour and depth of the terrazzo matrix that grinding leaves dull
- Adds a hard-wearing sacrificial layer that extends the service life of the decorative floor
- Produces a hygienic, seamless, joint-free finish that is easily cleaned with neutral soaps and mild alkaline detergents
- Part of an NTMA-compliant system with proven chemical resistance to dilute acids, alkalis and a wide range of aqueous solutions (ASTM D1308)
- Economical in use — 40 m²/litre/coat coverage means modest material quantities relative to the floor area finished
- Re-coatable for maintenance: worn wearing-layer can be cleaned and re-sealed rather than replacing the whole floor
Limitations & considerations
- Not a standalone product — it only performs as the final coat of a correctly primed, screeded, grouted, ground and polished Nitoflor ETerrazzo system
- Solvent-based and flammable (flash point 30°C); requires good ventilation, no naked flames and CO2/foam extinguishers on hand during application
- Internal use only — the parent Nitoflor ETerrazzo system is not suitable for external exposure
- Cannot rescue a poorly executed terrazzo floor; surface must be thoroughly cleaned and dried (typically dried overnight) before sealing
- Some matt or honed aesthetic designs call for an unsealed surface, in which case an alternative Fosroc finish must be specified
- 12-month shelf life and must be stored below 35°C in original unopened packs — high temperature/humidity storage shortens usable life, a real consideration in Indian summers
- Application, grinding, polishing and sealing of epoxy terrazzo is a highly skilled trade that should only be carried out by experienced, trained operatives
Selection & best practice
Seal only after the terrazzo has been progressively re-ground and polished with fine grit stones or diamonds, washed thoroughly and allowed to dry overnight — sealing onto a damp or dusty matrix will trap moisture and cause adhesion or bloom defects. Apply two coats and respect the 12–24 hour overcoating interval; do not rush the second coat. Work at substrate and ambient temperatures within the system’s 10°C to 35°C window, and consult Fosroc technical support if site conditions fall outside it. Because the sealer is flammable, ensure cross-ventilation, prohibit smoking and naked flames, and keep containers sealed when not in use. Do not apply over floors subject to rising damp or with relative humidity above 75% (per BS 8023 Appendix A). Clean tools immediately with Fosroc Solvent 102. For matt ‘honed’ design intents, confirm with the Fosroc/Space Arc technical team whether to leave the surface unsealed or use an alternative finish before committing the spec.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer
Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer should be understood as one part — the finishing seal — of Fosroc’s premium decorative epoxy terrazzo system, not as a competitor to ordinary floor coatings. Within the Fosroc range it sits alongside the system’s own components (Nitoprime 31 primer, Nitoflor ETerrazzo screed, ETerrazzo Grout and divider strips), and it is conceptually different from Fosroc’s clear floor seals and coatings used on plain epoxy screeds such as Nitoflor FC50, Nitoflor FC150 or the Nitoflor Lithurin range of hardener-sealers for cementitious floors — those finish different floor types. If your project goal is a decorative terrazzo aesthetic, the realistic alternatives are not other sealers but other epoxy/cementitious terrazzo systems: Sika offers decorative epoxy terrazzo and Sikafloor decorative resin systems, MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (formerly BASF) has Mastertop decorative resin flooring, and STP and Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) are strong Indian names in waterproofing and concrete treatments but are less focused on heavy-duty decorative epoxy terrazzo specifically. For high-aesthetic interior terrazzo in airports, hospitals and malls, the Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo system — finished with this sealer — is a well-proven, NTMA-compliant specification; the honest caveat is that its success depends far more on skilled grinding, polishing and sealing workmanship than on the sealer brand alone, which is why sourcing it through an authorised applicator like Space Arc matters.
