Fosroc Nitoflor FC50
Solvent-free, high-performance epoxy floor coating — a hard-wearing, chemical- and abrasion-resistant finish for industrial floors, available as a smooth seal or a textured anti-slip system.
What is it?
A solvent-free, two-pack (plus colour pack) high-performance epoxy resin floor coating from Fosroc that cures to a hard-wearing, semi-glossy, chemical- and abrasion-resistant film over concrete and cementitious floors.
Where is it used?
Roller- or brush-applied onto sound, dry concrete and screed floors in factories, warehouses, car parks, workshops, laboratories, clean rooms, showrooms and hangars across food and beverage, pharmaceutical, hospital, power and water-treatment facilities.
Why use it?
It seals dusty, porous concrete and delivers an easy-to-clean, non-bacterial-growth, low-maintenance surface with zero application odour — a fast, economical upgrade where a full self-levelling screed is not warranted.
How is it applied?
Stir base and hardener, blend in the colour pack, mix ~3 minutes, then apply by medium-pile epoxy roller or brush in two coats; broadcast Nitoflor Antislip Grains into the first coat where a textured anti-slip finish is required.
About Fosroc Nitoflor FC50
Fosroc Nitoflor FC50 is a solvent-free, high-performance epoxy floor coating engineered to convert bare, dusting or porous concrete into a sealed, durable and easy-to-clean working surface. It belongs to Fosroc’s Nitoflor FC range of liquid-applied epoxy coatings, where the number broadly tracks build and duty — FC50 is the standard-build roller/brush coating, FC150 is the high-build (typically 400-micron) version for heavier chemical and wet-area exposure, and FC500 is the high-build self-smoothing screed for severe service. As a coating rather than a screed, FC50 is the right choice when the concrete is structurally sound and the requirement is protection, hygiene, cleanability, light-to-medium traffic resistance and appearance — not the millimetres of build needed to mask an uneven or damaged slab. The product is supplied as a multi-component kit: a pre-weighed epoxy base, a curing-agent hardener and a Nitoflor colour pack. All three carry reactive elements essential to the system, so the kit must be used in the proportions supplied and not split or thinned. Mixed and applied correctly, FC50 wets into the concrete surface and cross-links into a continuous, semi-glossy film that resists abrasion, common industrial chemicals, oils and grease, does not support bacterial growth and stands up to repeated wash-down. It can be installed as a plain smooth finish or, by broadcasting graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains into the wet base coat, as a textured anti-slip system for wet or wheeled-traffic areas. For contractors, consultants and facility owners in India, FC50 sits in the practical middle of the flooring decision — more robust and hygienic than a thin floor paint or chlorinated-rubber coating, yet far quicker and more economical to install than a 2–3 mm self-levelling epoxy. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies FC50 alongside the matching Fosroc primers, repair mortars and antislip grains needed to deliver it as a complete, warrantable system.
The technical insight
The performance of FC50 is governed by epoxy chemistry and by surface preparation, not by paint-like coverage. Because it is solvent-free, the film builds in one pass without the shrinkage and pinholing that solvent flash-off causes, which is why two roller coats can deliver a continuous, fully sealing system with negligible site odour — a genuine advantage for occupied food, pharma and hospital environments. The binder is an epoxy resin reacted with a selected curing agent, so the cured coating is a thermoset: hard, well-bonded and chemically resistant, but with a finite pot life once mixed and a fixed window for recoating. The single most important variable is the concrete itself. Long-term durability is set by the adhesive bond between the coating and the slab, so the substrate must be sound, dry (Fosroc’s Nitoflor FC guidance calls for new concrete cured at least 28 days, moisture below ~5%, and relative humidity not exceeding 75% per BS 8203), and free of laitance, oil, grease and curing-compound residue. On good-quality, non-porous concrete a primer is often unnecessary; on porous or doubtful slabs the surface is primed (Nitoprime 25 in the FC family) to prevent the coating starving and to suppress pinholing, and defects are made good first with a Fosroc repair mortar such as Nitomortar or Nitoflor EU5. Fosroc explicitly advises against acid etching as a preparation method. For anti-slip work, the base coat is applied slightly heavier and Nitoflor Antislip Grains are broadcast while wet, then over-sealed by the top coat; grade selection sets how aggressive the texture is. Cure and recoat times are strongly temperature-dependent, which matters in Indian conditions — higher slab temperatures shorten pot life and the maximum interval between coats, so hot-weather scheduling must be planned rather than assumed.
Where it is used
- Factory and manufacturing-plant production floors
- Warehouses, storage areas and distribution centres
- Car parks, ramps, walkways and internal roadways
- Workshops, maintenance bays and demonstration areas
- Laboratories, clean rooms and quality-control areas
- Exhibition halls, showrooms and display areas
- Aircraft hangars and large hardstanding floors
- Wet-process and wash-down areas using the anti-slip system
Key advantages
- Solvent-free — no application odour, suitable for occupied and sensitive areas such as food, pharma and hospitals
- Hard-wearing, abrasion- and chemical-resistant epoxy film over concrete
- Does not support bacterial growth and is easy to clean — good hygiene and low maintenance
- Available smooth or as a textured anti-slip system using graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains
- Simple roller- or brush-applied installation — fast turnaround versus a self-levelling screed
- Wide colour range to brighten work areas and demarcate zones or hazards
- Seals dusting, porous concrete and improves wear life of the slab
- Backed by the full Fosroc system — matching primer, repair mortar and joint sealants
Limitations & considerations
- A coating, not a screed — it will not level, rebuild or hide an uneven, damaged or heavily worn slab (use FC500 or a screed system for that)
- Bond depends on correct preparation; cannot be applied over slabs suffering rising damp, osmosis risk or RH above ~75% (BS 8203)
- New concrete must be cured (around 28 days) and dry (~<5% moisture) before coating
- Fosroc does not recommend acid etching as a floor-preparation method
- Pot life, recoat window and cure are temperature-sensitive — hot Indian site conditions shorten them and must be planned for
- As an epoxy, it can show slight shade change or reduced gloss under strong UV / extreme exposure (cosmetic, not structural)
- Must be used as a complete pre-weighed kit in supplied proportions; do not split packs or add solvent thinners
- Limited film thickness versus high-build systems — for severe chemical immersion or heavy impact, step up to FC150 / FC500
Selection & best practice
Treat the slab, not the coating, as the critical path. Verify the concrete is at least ~28 days old, below ~5% moisture and under 75% RH (BS 8203), then mechanically remove laitance and contamination by grinding or shot-blasting — never acid etching. Make good cracks and spalls with a Fosroc repair mortar (Nitomortar / Nitoflor EU5) and prime porous or doubtful concrete with Nitoprime 25 before coating. Mix base, hardener and colour pack in full, in the supplied proportions, for at least 3 minutes with a slow-speed paddle, and never add thinners. Apply two continuous coats by good-quality medium-pile epoxy roller, respecting the temperature-adjusted recoat window — schedule hot-weather work for cooler parts of the day because high slab temperatures cut pot life and the maximum interval between coats. For wet or sloped areas, broadcast the correct grade of Nitoflor Antislip Grains into the wet base coat and over-seal with the top coat. Protect the fresh floor from traffic until the temperature-appropriate light- and full-traffic cure times have elapsed, and clean tools immediately with Nitoflor Sol. Always confirm current coverage, pack and cure figures against the latest Fosroc Nitoflor FC50 technical data sheet for the batch and region supplied.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC50
Within the Fosroc range, Nitoflor FC50 is the entry point to solvent-free epoxy floor coatings — pick it for protection, hygiene and cleanability on a sound slab; step up to Nitoflor FC150 for high-build chemical and wet-area duty, or to the Nitoflor FC500 self-smoothing epoxy screed when you need millimetres of build to level or rebuild the floor. It pairs with Fosroc system products: Nitoprime 25 primer, Nitomortar / Nitoflor EU5 for substrate repair, Nitoflor Antislip Grains for texture, and Fosroc floor-grade joint sealants. Against the wider Indian market, FC50 competes with Sika (Sikafloor epoxy coatings such as Sikafloor-264/-161 systems), MBS/MYK epoxy floor coatings, STP’s epoxy flooring range, and value-tier products from Dr. Fixit/Pidilite — most of which offer comparable solvent-free two-pack epoxy chemistry. The honest position is that FC50’s edge is not exotic performance but Fosroc’s proven, well-documented system, consistent quality and nationwide technical support; where a project demands self-levelling smoothness, ESD control, food-grade thick screeds or high-temperature/UV-stable finishes, those are different specifications and you should compare the relevant high-build or polyurethane/PU-cement systems (from Fosroc or its competitors) rather than asking a standard-build coating to do that job. Space Arc Engineering can spec the right tier for the actual loading, chemistry and budget.
