Where is it used?

Sanitary ware and bathroom joints, kitchen and hygienic areas, glazing and glazed surfaces, shower cubicles, perimeter sealing around doors and windows, tempered glass, aluminium, ceramic tiling, and lightweight plastic and metal cladding joints.

Why use it?

It combines easy single-component gun application with a built-in anti-fungus additive, good slump resistance on vertical joints, and reliable adhesion to non-porous surfaces like glass, glazed tile and metal, keeping wet-area seals clean and watertight.

How is it applied?

Gun-applied from cartridge into a clean, dry, dust-free joint, tooled to a smooth concave profile, then left to skin and cure through ambient humidity. Used with a backer rod or bond-breaker tape to control depth in deeper joints.

About Fosroc Nitoseal GPA

Fosroc Nitoseal GPA is a single-component, low-modulus silicone sealant designed for the sealing and weatherproofing of joints in sanitary, hygienic, glazing and wet-area applications. According to Fosroc’s product information, it is an anti-fungus, acetic (acetoxy) curing, thixotropic adhesive sealant that cures at room temperature on exposure to atmospheric humidity, forming a flexible, elastic seal with good adhesion to a range of non-porous substrates. The “GPA” designation marks it out within Fosroc’s wider Nitoseal family as a general-purpose, anti-fungus silicone grade rather than a structural movement-joint product. Where the high-movement Nitoseal polyurethane and polysulphide grades (PU40, PU220, PS200, Thioflex 600) are built to absorb cyclic expansion and contraction in concrete construction and expansion joints, Nitoseal GPA is built for the finishing and second-fix trades, sealing the junctions where sanitary fittings, glass, glazed tiles, metal trims and frames meet. Its defining feature is the anti-fungal additive, which resists the mould and black-spot staining that plague silicone seals in continuously damp environments such as showers, around basins and at worktop splashbacks. The acetoxy cure system gives fast skinning and strong adhesion to glass, glazed surfaces and metals without a primer, while the thixotropic (non-slump) consistency lets it be applied to vertical and overhead joints without sagging before it cures. For contractors, fit-out specialists and facilities teams across India, it is positioned as a dependable, branded sanitary and glazing silicone backed by Fosroc’s technical support and Space Arc Engineering’s distribution and applicator network across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

The technical insight

The chemistry that makes Nitoseal GPA effective is also what defines its limits, and understanding it prevents costly callbacks. Being an acetoxy-cure silicone, it releases acetic acid (the vinegar smell) as it cures by reacting with airborne moisture. That cure system delivers excellent unprimed adhesion to inert, non-porous surfaces — glass, glazed ceramic, anodised aluminium, enamelled steel and many rigid plastics — which is exactly why it excels at glazing and sanitary work. However, the acetic by-product means it should not be used in direct contact with alkaline or acid-sensitive substrates: it can corrode unprotected mild steel, copper, brass and lead, and it can react with fresh cementitious surfaces, natural stone such as marble and limestone, and concrete, causing staining or poor bond. For porous mineral substrates and natural stone, a neutral-cure silicone or a polyurethane such as Nitoseal PU40 is the correct choice. As a low-modulus silicone it tolerates routine thermal and service movement at sanitary, glazing and trim joints, but it is not a substitute for a dedicated structural expansion-joint sealant rated to a high movement accommodation factor under ISO 11600. The thixotropic body is the practical advantage on site: it holds its shape in vertical and overhead joints, so a clean tooled bead can be struck before cure. As always with silicone, adhesion is won or lost at preparation — the substrate must be clean, dry and free of oil, old sealant, soap residue and dust, because silicone bonds chemically to the surface, not mechanically into it.

Where it is used

  • Sealing joints around sanitary ware — basins, WCs, baths, sinks and vanity units — in bathrooms and toilets
  • Wet-area and hygienic-area joints in kitchens, pantries, laboratories, hospitals and food-handling spaces
  • Internal and external glazing joints, including bedding and capping of glass into frames
  • Sealing around tempered/toughened glass partitions, shower cubicles and glass shower screens
  • Perimeter sealing of door and window frames against glazed, metal and tiled reveals
  • Ceramic tiling joints, tile-to-sanitaryware junctions and worktop/splashback seals
  • Lightweight plastic and metal cladding joints and trim/flashing seals on glazed surfaces
  • General-purpose weather-sealing of non-porous building junctions where mould resistance is required

Key advantages

  • Single-component and ready to use — no mixing, gun-applied straight from the cartridge for fast installation
  • Built-in anti-fungal package resists mould growth and black staining in continuously damp areas
  • Cures at room temperature through atmospheric humidity to a flexible, elastic, durable rubber seal
  • Excellent unprimed adhesion to glass, glazed tile, anodised aluminium and many rigid plastics
  • Thixotropic, low-slump consistency holds shape in vertical and overhead joints without sagging
  • Low modulus accommodates routine thermal and service movement at sanitary, glazing and trim joints
  • Fast skinning acetoxy cure allows quick tooling and early water resistance
  • Backed by Fosroc technical data and Space Arc Engineering’s applicator support across India

Limitations & considerations

  • Acetoxy cure releases acetic acid — unsuitable in contact with mild steel, copper, brass, lead and other corrodible metals without protection
  • Not recommended on alkaline or porous mineral substrates such as concrete, mortar, marble and limestone, where staining or bond failure can occur
  • Not a structural expansion-joint sealant — not intended for high-movement civil joints rated under ISO 11600 high-movement classes
  • Cannot be over-painted; paint will not adhere to the cured silicone surface
  • Limited adhesion to bituminous surfaces, PE, PP, PTFE and some plasticised plastics without testing
  • Cure depends on ambient humidity and temperature — very cold, dry or fully enclosed conditions slow or prevent cure
  • Adhesion is highly dependent on clean, dry, contaminant-free substrates; soap, oil or old sealant residue causes failure
  • Confirm exact movement, colour, pack and standards data against the current country-specific Fosroc TDS before specifying

Selection & best practice

Design and install the joint, not just the bead. For sanitary and glazing work, aim for a sound width-to-depth ratio — typically around 2:1 for silicone, with a practical minimum bead depth of about 6 mm — and use a closed-cell polyethylene backer rod or bond-breaker tape in deeper joints so the sealant bonds only to the two joint faces and can flex freely (three-sided adhesion restrains movement and causes early failure). Verify substrate suitability first: Nitoseal GPA is for non-porous, non-corrodible surfaces such as glass, glazed tile and anodised aluminium, so keep it away from bare mild steel, copper, fresh concrete, marble and other acid-sensitive or porous materials, switching to a neutral-cure silicone or a polyurethane like Nitoseal PU40 where needed. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dust, oil, soap film and all old sealant. Mask both edges, gun a continuous bead, then tool immediately to a smooth concave profile to consolidate the sealant against the joint faces and remove masking before skinning. Allow adequate ventilation and humidity for cure, and protect the seal from water immersion until fully cured. Always cross-check movement capability, colour range, pack size and standards compliance against the current Fosroc country-specific Technical Data Sheet for the project before final specification.

Frequently asked questions

What type of sealant is Fosroc Nitoseal GPA?
It is a single-component, low-modulus, acetoxy (acetic) curing silicone sealant with an anti-fungal additive. Per Fosroc’s product information it is a thixotropic adhesive sealant that cures at room temperature on exposure to air humidity to form a flexible, elastic seal, intended for sanitary, glazing, hygienic and wet-area joints rather than structural expansion joints.
Where should Nitoseal GPA be used?
It is designed for joints in sanitary ware, ceramic tiling, hygienic and wet areas, glazing and glazed surfaces, shower cubicles, tempered glass, aluminium, door and window perimeters, and lightweight plastic and metal cladding. In short, it suits non-porous, non-corrodible surfaces where a clean, mould-resistant silicone seal is needed.
Where should it NOT be used?
Because it is an acetoxy-cure silicone that releases acetic acid as it cures, it is not recommended in contact with corrodible metals such as mild steel, copper, brass and lead, nor on alkaline or porous mineral substrates like concrete, mortar, marble and limestone, where it can corrode, stain or fail to bond. It is also not a structural high-movement expansion-joint sealant, and it cannot be painted over.
Does Nitoseal GPA need a primer?
On the non-porous substrates it is designed for — glass, glazed tile, anodised aluminium and many rigid plastics — silicone typically bonds without a primer, provided the surface is clean, dry and contaminant-free. For any borderline or porous substrate, check the current Fosroc Technical Data Sheet and carry out an adhesion test before full application.
How is Nitoseal GPA different from Nitoseal PU40 or polysulphide sealants?
Nitoseal GPA is an anti-fungus silicone for sanitary, glazing and wet-area finishing joints. Nitoseal PU40 is a polyurethane sealant and the polysulphide grades (such as Nitoseal PS200 / Thioflex 600) are built for structural and high-movement civil joints, and they bond to porous substrates like concrete. Choose GPA for glass/tile/sanitary work, and a PU or polysulphide grade for concrete expansion and construction joints.
What colours and pack sizes does Nitoseal GPA come in?
Nitoseal GPA is supplied in cartridge form. Sanitary silicones in this class are commonly offered in white and clear/transparent with selected additional colours, but the exact colour options and cartridge volume vary by region. Confirm the available colours and pack size against the current Fosroc India Technical Data Sheet and price list, which Space Arc Engineering can provide.
Is Nitoseal GPA resistant to mould in showers and bathrooms?
Yes — a key feature is its built-in anti-fungal additive, which is specifically intended to resist the mould growth and black staining that affect ordinary silicone seals in continuously damp areas such as showers, around basins and at splashbacks. Good joint design, clean substrates and proper cure are still essential to get the full benefit and a long-lasting seal.

How we position Fosroc Nitoseal GPA

Within Fosroc’s Nitoseal portfolio, Nitoseal GPA occupies the sanitary and glazing silicone niche, distinct from the movement-joint grades. For high-movement structural and concrete joints, Fosroc’s own polyurethane and polysulphide options — Nitoseal PU40, the two-part Nitoseal PU220, Nitoseal PS200 and Thioflex 600 — are the correct specification, while Colpor 200PF covers trafficked road and pavement joints; for porous mineral substrates a neutral-cure silicone is preferable to an acetoxy product. As a sanitary/glazing anti-fungus silicone, Nitoseal GPA competes directly with established alternatives such as Sika’s Sikasil sanitary silicones and Sikaflex range, BASF/MBS MasterSeal silicones, STP (Pidilite) Dr. Fixit / STP silicone sealants, Wacker, Dow and GE/Momentive sanitary silicones, and Bostik wet-area silicones. Its differentiators are the combination of a branded Fosroc anti-fungal silicone with consistent technical data and the local advantage of Space Arc Engineering’s authorised Fosroc distribution and applicator support across Delhi NCR and Pan-India. Because exact colour, pack, movement and standards figures live in the country-specific Fosroc Technical Data Sheet, specifiers should always confirm current values against the latest TDS before final specification.
