Fosroc Conplast SP430 G8 DIS
Chloride-free, instantly-dispersible sulphonated naphthalene superplasticiser and retarder that delivers up to 25% water reduction for high-strength, low-permeability, pumpable concrete.
What is it?
A high-range water-reducing and set-retarding superplasticiser based on sulphonated naphthalene polymers (SNF), supplied as a brown, instantly water-dispersible liquid. The ‘DIS’ grade disperses on contact with the mixing water, easing batching at RMC plants and on site.
Where is it used?
High-grade structural and pumpable concrete on Indian projects: RMC plants, precast yards, high-rise cores, bridges, water-retaining structures, basements and tunnels where high strength and low permeability are specified.
Why use it?
Cuts water demand by up to 25% at the same workability, lifting compressive strength, reducing permeability and improving durability without raising cement content. Chloride-free, so it is safe in prestressed and reinforced concrete.
How is it applied?
Dosed by dispenser at 0.6 to 2.0% by weight of cement, added with the gauging water (or the last ~20% of water after pre-wetting). Optimum dosage is fixed by site trials against a control mix.
About Fosroc Conplast SP430 G8 DIS
Fosroc Conplast SP430 G8 DIS is a high-performance concrete admixture that combines high-range water reduction with controlled set retardation in a single product. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Conplast SP430 family and is built on sulphonated naphthalene polymer (SNF) chemistry, supplied as a brown liquid that is instantly dispersible in the mixing water — the “DIS” in the name signalling this ready-dispersing characteristic that suits both ready-mix (RMC) batching and site mixing. For contractors, consultants and engineers across India, it is positioned as a workhorse superplasticiser for medium-to-high grade structural concrete where strength, pumpability and durability all matter. The product’s core promise is straightforward: it deflocculates and disperses cement particles so that the mixing water works far more efficiently, allowing water reductions of up to roughly 25% at a constant workability. That reduced water-to-cement ratio is what drives the gains in compressive strength, density and impermeability. Used the other way round — keeping water constant — the same dispersion produces high-slump, flowing, easily pumpable concrete with minimal vibration. Crucially, the product is chloride-free (Nil chloride to BS 5075), which makes it safe in reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned work, and compatible with sulphate-resisting cements and marine aggregates. The retarding action extends working time, which is valuable for long pump runs, large pours and concreting in the hotter parts of the Indian summer, where premature stiffening is a real risk. The India-market grade is documented to comply with IS 9103:1999, BS 5075 Part 3 and ASTM C494 Type G (high-range water-reducing and retarding), with the SP430 G8 family also referenced against IS 2645 for integral waterproofing properties arising from the reduced permeability. In practical terms, Space Arc Engineering supplies this admixture for cast-in-situ structural elements, precast units, water-retaining and below-ground structures, and any mix where a single product needs to deliver workability retention, strength and durability together.
The technical insight
The chemistry here is classic SNF (sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde) polymer technology. The long-chain anionic polymer adsorbs onto cement grains and imparts a strong negative surface charge; the resulting electrostatic repulsion breaks up the flocs that normally trap mixing water, releasing that water to lubricate the mix instead. This is why a relatively modest dose can free up enough water to cut the w/c ratio by up to a quarter without losing slump. Two consequences follow directly. First, strength: the published India data for the SP430 G8 grade shows early strength gains of about 40 to 50% and overall strength improvement around 20% when the water reduction is taken advantage of, simply because lower w/c yields a denser, less porous matrix. Second, durability and waterproofing: the same reduction in capillary porosity lowers permeability, which is the mechanism behind the IS 2645 integral-waterproofing reference for the family — it is densification, not a pore-blocking chemical, that keeps water out. The DIS (instantly dispersible) formulation matters operationally: because it disperses immediately in water rather than needing prolonged agitation, it blends uniformly when dosed with the gauging water at a batching plant or added to a transit mixer, reducing the risk of localised over- or under-dosing. The trade-off to manage is retardation. SNF-based retarding plasticisers are dose- and temperature-sensitive: a double overdose noticeably increases set retardation and can raise air entrainment, both of which need to be controlled. Air entrainment is naturally low (less than 1% additional air for the G8 grade), so the product does not compromise strength through unwanted air, but mixes containing sulphate-resisting cement or high cement-replacement levels will show amplified retardation. The governing rule, stated on every Fosroc datasheet, is that optimum dosage must be set by trial mixes using the actual project materials and ambient conditions.
Where it is used
- High-strength structural concrete for high-rise columns, cores, shear walls and transfer slabs where low w/c and high early strength allow faster formwork stripping
- Pumpable and flowing concrete for long horizontal and vertical pump runs with minimal vibration
- Ready-mix concrete (RMC) production where instantly-dispersible dosing and retained workability suit transit times in Indian traffic conditions
- Precast and prestressed elements requiring high early strength for quicker demoulding and turnover
- Water-retaining and below-ground structures (basements, water tanks, STPs, tunnels) needing low-permeability, durable concrete
- Marine, coastal and sulphate-exposure works, leveraging the chloride-free formulation and compatibility with SRC and marine aggregates
- Concrete incorporating microsilica, PFA/fly ash or GGBS cement replacements for high-performance durable mixes
- Hot-weather concreting where the retarding action preserves placing and compaction time
Key advantages
- Up to ~25% water reduction at constant workability, raising compressive strength without extra cement
- Significant early-age strength gain (around 40-50% reported for the G8 grade) enabling earlier stripping in precast and structural work
- Chloride-free (Nil to BS 5075) — safe in prestressed, post-tensioned and reinforced concrete
- Lower permeability and denser matrix improve durability and contribute integral waterproofing (IS 2645 reference for the family)
- Instantly dispersible (DIS) — blends uniformly when added with the gauging water, ideal for RMC and transit-mixer dosing
- Set retardation extends working time, aiding long pump runs, large pours and hot-weather placing
- Low additional air entrainment (less than 1% for the G8 grade), so strength is not sacrificed to unwanted air
- Compatible with OPC, sulphate-resisting cement and cement replacements such as fly ash, GGBS and microsilica
- Improves cohesion and pumpability while minimising segregation and bleeding
- Complies with IS 9103, BS 5075 Part 3 and ASTM C494 Type G for specification confidence
Limitations & considerations
- Dosage and retardation are temperature-sensitive; overdosing (e.g. double dose) sharply increases set retardation and can raise air entrainment
- Effects are amplified with sulphate-resisting cement and high cement-replacement levels, demanding tighter dosage control
- With alkali-reactive aggregates the SNF admixture can add to the mix’s alkali load — assess the risk and seek Fosroc advice
- Optimum dosage is not a fixed number; it must be established by site trials with the actual project materials and conditions
- Not a normal-grade water reducer for low-spec work — using a high-range retarding superplasticiser on simple mixes can over-retard
- Not suitable with high-alumina cement (SP430 G8 family is compatible with all cements except high-alumina cement)
- Admixtures must be dosed separately into the mix and never pre-blended with other admixtures before addition
- As a retarding type, very early strength of plain (non water-reduced) mixes can be slowed if the water reduction is not taken advantage of
Selection & best practice
Always establish the working dosage by laboratory and site trial mixes using the actual cement, aggregates, replacements and ambient temperature for the project, comparing every trial against an admixture-free control. Take advantage of the water reduction (lower the w/c ratio) rather than only chasing slump, otherwise the strength and durability benefits are largely lost. Dose accurately through a calibrated dispenser and add the admixture with the gauging water — or with the last ~20% of water after the mix is pre-wetted — never pre-mix it with other admixtures. In hot weather, exploit the retardation to protect placing and compaction time, but watch for over-retardation when using SRC or high replacement levels. Maintain good curing (water spray, wet hessian or a Fosroc Concure curing membrane), especially if any overdose has occurred, as proper curing is essential to realise the strength gain. Store drums in shade between normal temperatures, protected from extremes, and use within the 12-month shelf life.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP430 G8 DIS
Within the Fosroc Conplast SP range, SP430 G8 DIS sits as the SNF-based, instantly-dispersible, water-reducing-and-retarding superplasticiser — a step up from the standard SP430/SP430 DIS and a close relative of the SP430 G8 grade, while higher-water-reduction or slump-retention needs are met by Fosroc’s PCE-based Auramix and Structuro ranges and complementary products such as Conplast RP264 (retarder) and Conplast WP90 / Conplast X421IC for waterproofing. Against the wider Indian market, it competes directly with SNF and PCE superplasticisers from Sika (Sikament and the PCE-based Sika ViscoCrete range), Master Builders Solutions / MBS (MasterRheobuild and MasterGlenium), BASF-legacy admixtures, and the integral-waterproofing and admixture lines from Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP. PCE-based products from those competitors can offer higher water reduction and longer slump life, so on premium self-compacting or very high-grade mixes a PCE may be specified instead; SP430 G8 DIS earns its place as a proven, cost-effective, chloride-free SNF workhorse for everyday high-grade structural, precast and pumpable concrete where reliable water reduction, strength and durability are the priority. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies it with technical mix-design support, trial-dosage guidance and the current product datasheet.
