Product Overview
Nitoseal MS600 is a one-component, moisture-curing, modified silane terminated polymer (MS polymer) joint sealant for general construction movement joints. MS polymer sealants combine the best characteristics of polyurethane sealants (good adhesion to a wide range of construction substrates, paintability) and silicone sealants (UV and weathering stability, temperature resistance) while avoiding the main disadvantages of each — polyurethane staining and UV degradation; silicone inability to be painted. Nitoseal MS600 cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture to form a flexible, durable elastomeric sealant that accommodates joint movement without cracking or delamination. It is suitable for facade expansion joints, window and door perimeter sealing, curtain wall and cladding joints, concrete and masonry movement joints, and general building airtightness sealing. Nitoseal MS600 has excellent adhesion to concrete, stone, brick, glass, aluminium, UPVC, and most construction substrates. It is paintable, low odour, and suitable for use in occupied buildings. How is Nitoseal MS600 better than standard polyurethane sealants for facade use?
Standard one-component polyurethane sealants can suffer from UV degradation over time — they may chalk, darken, or crack in direct sunlight, particularly on exposed south-facing facades. Nitoseal MS600 MS polymer technology is inherently UV-stable, maintaining its colour, flexibility, and adhesion for many years on exposed facades. Nitoseal MS600 is also paintable (unlike silicone) and has lower odour than solvent-based polyurethane sealants.
Does Nitoseal MS600 require a primer on concrete or masonry?
On porous substrates such as concrete, brick, and stone, a Fosroc primer is recommended for maximum adhesion, particularly for joints subject to full thermal movement. On non-porous substrates such as glass, metal, and powder-coated aluminium, a specific adhesion primer for non-porous surfaces should be used. Primers improve long-term adhesion and reduce the risk of adhesion failure at the sealant-substrate interface, particularly in wet and exposed conditions.
Can Nitoseal MS600 be applied in wet or rainy conditions?
Nitoseal MS600 cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture. However, joints must not have standing water or free moisture at the substrate surface at the time of sealant application — this would prevent good wetting and adhesion of the sealant to the substrate. Light background humidity is acceptable and actually assists curing. Do not apply in heavy rain or when the joint is wet from recent rain until the joint surfaces have dried out.
