What is it?

Fosroc Conplast WP10 is an integral, liquid permeability-reducing admixture from the Conplast WP family. Dispersed in the gauging water, it reacts with cement-hydration products to form a hydrophobic material that repels water and lowers the permeability of the concrete throughout its mass — not just at the surface.

Where is it used?

Used in waterproof, structural and precast concrete: multi-storey basements, RC flat roofs, water-retaining and water-excluding structures, sumps, tunnels, bridge decks and general civil/building concrete across Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.

Why use it?

It builds waterproofing into the concrete itself, so integral protection is maintained even if the surface is later damaged. It also reduces the water:cement ratio, raising compressive strength at the same workability, and contains no bitumen.

How is it applied?

Added to the concrete batching/gauging water at the dosing stage (typically dispensed at the WP-family rate of around 0.7 litre per 100 kg of cement), then mixed normally. It is not a surface coating — it is dosed at the batching plant or mixer and verified through a project trial mix.

About Fosroc Conplast WP10

Fosroc Conplast WP10 is a high-performance permeability reducer engineered to deliver integral (mass) waterproofing of concrete. Unlike a membrane or surface coating that protects only the face of an element, WP10 is dispersed into the concrete during batching, where it works chemically with the cement matrix to make the entire pour water-repellent. Fosroc positions it as a product that can be used on its own or alongside other Conplast admixtures for waterproof, structural and precast concrete.

The mechanism is hydrophobic, not film-forming. Within the Conplast WP range, the active chemistry is a specially blended, chloride-free organic liquid that reacts with the products of cement hydration to produce a hydrophobic material lining the pores and capillaries. This repels external water and sharply reduces capillary absorption into the concrete. The reactive polymer also promotes a crystalline growth that helps block capillaries and fill very fine, non-structural shrinkage cracks, tightening the concrete against moisture movement. Because the protection is distributed through the body of the concrete, surface abrasion or minor damage does not open a path for water — the integral protection remains.

A second benefit is structural rather than purely protective. By improving the wetting and dispersion of cement, WP10 acts as a water reducer: the same workable, placeable mix can be achieved at a lower water:cement ratio. Lowering the w/c ratio is one of the most reliable ways to make concrete denser, stronger and inherently less permeable, so WP10 supports durability on two fronts — chemical hydrophobicity and a tighter pore structure. It also explicitly contains no bitumen, which matters where bituminous bleed, staining or incompatibility with later coatings would be a problem, and it is described as fully compatible with certain Fosroc surface coating and finishing systems.

For an Indian specifier, WP10 sits in the same toolbox as Conplast WL, WL Xtra, WP90, WP100 and WP200 — the integral-waterproofing options Fosroc offers for reducing concrete permeability. WP10 is the higher-performance liquid permeability reducer in that group, suited to demanding water-retaining and below-grade work where a dosed admixture is preferred over (or used in addition to) an applied membrane. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and pan-India, supplies WP10 with batch documentation and on-site technical guidance so the dosage and trial-mix regime are matched to the actual concrete and exposure on each project.

The technical insight

The defining feature of WP10 is that it attacks permeability through two independent routes at once. Route one is chemical: the reactive organic liquid converts part of the cement-hydration chemistry into a hydrophobic, water-repelling phase that lines pores and capillaries, so water that reaches the concrete is repelled rather than wicked in. Route two is physical: as a cement-dispersing water reducer it lets you cut the water:cement ratio (the WP range allows roughly a 10% reduction at constant slump), which densifies the paste and shrinks the capillary network that water would otherwise travel through. A lower w/c ratio is the textbook lever for durable, low-permeability concrete, so WP10 effectively pairs a hydrophobic barrier with a tighter matrix. Critically, because both effects are built into the mass of the concrete, they survive surface wear — there is no membrane to puncture. The chloride-free formulation (the WP family carries nil chloride to BS 5075) makes it appropriate for reinforced and prestressed concrete, where introduced chlorides would risk reinforcement corrosion. It is not a crack-bridging system: the crystalline pore-blocking helps with very fine hairline shrinkage cracks only, so it must not be relied on to seal moving joints or structural cracks.

Where it is used

  • Integral waterproofing of multi-storey and deep basement concrete (rafts, retaining walls)
  • Water-retaining and water-excluding structures — overhead and underground tanks, reservoirs, sumps, STP/ETP tanks
  • RC flat roofs and roof slabs requiring reduced water absorption
  • Precast and ready-mixed concrete where in-mix permeability reduction is specified
  • Tunnel linings, bridge decks and other below-grade or moisture-exposed civil concrete
  • General building and civil concrete needing improved density, durability and reduced water penetration

Key advantages

  • Integral protection is maintained even if the concrete surface is later damaged — there is no membrane to puncture
  • Reduces water absorption and overall permeability throughout the body of the concrete
  • Acts as a water reducer: a lower water:cement ratio gives higher compressive strength at the same workability
  • Chloride-free chemistry (WP range is nil chloride to BS 5075), making it safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete
  • Contains no bitumen, avoiding staining and compatibility issues with later finishes
  • Can be used on its own or combined with other Conplast admixtures (plasticisers/retarders) in the same mix
  • Fully compatible with certain Fosroc surface coating and finishing systems for a belt-and-braces waterproofing strategy

Limitations & considerations

  • It is an admixture, not a coating or membrane — it cannot waterproof an existing hardened structure or be applied to a finished surface
  • Does not bridge or seal moving joints, construction joints or structural/active cracks; crystalline action only assists with very fine, non-structural hairline cracks
  • Performance depends on correct dosing, mixing and a verified trial mix — over- or under-dosing changes set time and workability
  • Where multiple admixtures are used, each must be added to the mix separately and not pre-blended together
  • For severe water-pressure or critical water-retaining work, it is often specified alongside an external membrane or coating rather than as the sole defence
  • Exact dosage, specific gravity and packaging should be confirmed against the current region-specific Fosroc datasheet for the supplied batch

Selection & best practice

Always run a project trial mix before bulk supply: dose WP10 into the gauging water at the rate from the current Fosroc datasheet (the WP family is typically around 0.7 litre per 100 kg of cement, up to about 1.5 litre for severe conditions), confirm the target slump and grade strength to the relevant code, and take the water reduction as denser, stronger concrete rather than just wetter concrete. Add WP10 to the mix water — never dose it onto dry cement or pre-blend it with other admixtures; if a plasticiser or retarder is also used, add each admixture separately. Maintain good compaction and proper curing, since the densest, least permeable concrete still relies on full hydration. For high water-table basements, tanks and other critical water-retaining elements, treat WP10 as the integral first line of defence and pair it with a compatible Fosroc surface coating or membrane where the specification demands belt-and-braces protection.

Frequently asked questions

Is Conplast WP10 a coating or an admixture?
It is an admixture, not a coating. WP10 is a liquid permeability reducer dosed into the concrete gauging water during batching. It makes the whole pour water-repellent from the inside, rather than forming a film on the surface, so it cannot be brushed onto an existing hardened structure.
How does WP10 actually waterproof concrete?
It works two ways. Chemically, the chloride-free organic liquid reacts with cement hydration to create a hydrophobic material in the pores that repels water. Physically, it acts as a water reducer, letting you lower the water:cement ratio so the concrete is denser and less permeable. Both effects are spread through the mass of the concrete.
What is the dosage of Conplast WP10?
Across the Conplast WP range the typical rate is about 0.7 litre per 100 kg of cement, rising toward 1.5 litre per 100 kg for severe conditions, added to the mix water. Because dosage can vary by region and grade, always confirm the figure on the current WP10 datasheet for your batch and validate it with a trial mix.
Can WP10 stop leaks through cracks or joints?
No. WP10 reduces permeability through sound concrete and can help close very fine, non-structural shrinkage hairline cracks (up to about 0.1 mm), but it does not bridge or seal moving joints, construction joints or structural cracks. Those need a dedicated joint sealant, waterstop or crack-injection system.
Is WP10 safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete?
Yes. The Conplast WP chemistry is chloride-free (nil chloride to BS 5075), so it does not introduce chlorides that could promote reinforcement corrosion. It is suitable for reinforced and prestressed concrete and works with all Portland cements and replacements like PFA, GGBFS and microsilica.
How is WP10 different from Conplast WL or WP100?
They are all integral waterproofers, but for different jobs. Conplast WL is a lignosulphonate-based integral waterproofing liquid often used in site mortars and concrete; WP90/WP100 are powder pore-fillers; WP10 is the higher-performance liquid permeability reducer for waterproof, structural and precast concrete. Space Arc can advise which suits your pour.

How we position Fosroc Conplast WP10

Within Fosroc’s own integral-waterproofing range, Conplast WP10 is the high-performance liquid permeability reducer, sitting above the general-purpose Conplast WL/WL Xtra integral waterproofing liquids and the WP90/WP100 powder pore-fillers, and alongside WP200 in the higher-permeability-reduction tier. For complete water-retaining or basement systems it is commonly paired with a Fosroc surface coating or membrane (such as the Brushbond or Nitoproof families) and joints/cracks handled separately with Fosroc sealants and waterstops, since WP10 itself does not bridge moving cracks. Against the wider Indian market, WP10 competes with integral waterproofing and permeability-reducing admixtures from Sika (e.g. Sika WT / Sika-1 integral systems), MYK Laticrete/MBS, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite, e.g. LW+ and integral compounds) and STP (Shalimar) — many of which are well-established for residential and site-mixed work. WP10’s differentiators are its chloride-free hydrophobic chemistry, the water-reduction strength benefit, the no-bitumen formulation and its fit within an engineered Fosroc admixture-plus-coating system. As an authorised Fosroc distributor, Space Arc Engineering positions WP10 for specifiers who want documented, trial-verified integral waterproofing on structural, below-grade and precast concrete in Delhi NCR and across India, with the honest caveat that for critical water pressure it should form part of a layered waterproofing strategy rather than the sole barrier.
