What is it?

A water-based chemical mould release agent from Fosroc, supplied as a sprayable white emulsion of mineral oils and non-hazardous chemicals that prevents fresh concrete from bonding to formwork.

Where is it used?

On steel, timber, plywood, GRP and resin-faced formwork in precast yards, ready-mix and site-cast structural concrete, and architectural fair-faced and white-cement work across India.

Why use it?

It releases moulds cleanly with minimal blemishes and blow holes, is non-flammable and low-odour, inhibits steel-formwork corrosion, and is safe to use with white cement without staining.

How is it applied?

Applied as a thin, continuous film by brush or fine-nozzle mould-oil sprayer to a clean, rust-free mould; excess is drained and wiped off, and every face is re-coated before each pour.

About Fosroc Reebol WB

Fosroc Reebol WB is a water-based chemical mould release agent engineered to give clean, easy stripping of formwork while producing high-quality, fair-faced and stain-free concrete. Unlike a plain “shuttering oil,” it is an emulsified blend of mineral oils and non-hazardous chemicals that carry reactive components. When applied to the mould face, these components form a thin water-repellent interface between the formwork and the wet concrete. That barrier does two jobs: it stops the concrete from adhering to the mould, and it lets entrapped air escape from the interface during placing and vibration. The escaping air is what reduces surface blow holes and blemishes, so cast faces come out cleaner and need far less rubbing-up and remedial work.\n\nFor an Indian site or precast yard, the headline attraction is that Reebol WB is water-based. It is supplied ready-to-use as a sprayable white liquid, is non-flammable, and is low in odour and solvent fumes compared with traditional neat or emulsion mould oils. That matters in enclosed precast sheds, basement pours and tunnel-form work where solvent vapour and fire risk are genuine concerns. It is also non-staining and safe to use with white cement, which makes it a sensible default for architectural and exposed-concrete work where colour uniformity is non-negotiable. Because it chemically conditions the mould rather than just greasing it, it also inhibits corrosion of steel formwork and extends shutter life.\n\nThe trade-off to understand up front is that Reebol WB has no residual release film. Conventional mould oils leave an oily layer that survives a stripping cycle; Reebol WB does not. Every mould face must be freshly and fully re-coated before each pour, and pools of product must never be allowed to dry on the mould or they will retard the concrete surface locally. Used correctly, with a light continuous film and disciplined re-coating, it consistently delivers the fair-faced result it is designed for. Space Arc Engineering supplies Reebol WB as an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical guidance on dosage, spray equipment and substrate-specific coverage.

The technical insight

The performance of Reebol WB comes from chemical reactivity, not film thickness. The reactive components in the emulsion react at the mould-concrete interface to create a water-repellent boundary that both releases the casting and vents entrapped air — which is the mechanism behind reduced blow holes and even colour. This is why over-application is counter-productive: a thick pooled layer cannot vent air, and any pool left to dry locally retards the cement hydration, leaving a soft, dusty patch on the cast face. The correct technique is a light, continuous, complete film (a fine spray nozzle is essential) with excess drained and wiped from the bottom of the mould. Equally important is the absence of residual release: because the chemistry is consumed each cycle, there is no carry-over film, so total re-coating before every pour is mandatory. Two further properties are useful in Indian practice — the product withstands steam curing at elevated temperatures up to 75 degrees C without breaking down, and it carries a NIL chloride content (tested to BS 5075), so there is no contribution to reinforcement corrosion risk in RCC and precast elements.

Where it is used

  • Precast concrete element production where consistent, fair-faced finishes and high mould turnover are required
  • Architectural and exposed/fair-faced concrete cast against plywood, steel or GRP formwork
  • White-cement and pigmented concrete work where any oil staining would be unacceptable
  • Steam-cured precast lines operating at elevated temperatures up to 75 degrees C
  • Steel formwork and tunnel-form systems where corrosion inhibition and low fire risk are priorities
  • Basements, enclosed pours and indoor precast sheds where low-odour, non-flammable release agents are preferred
  • General site-cast structural concrete columns, beams, walls and slabs needing clean stripping

Key advantages

  • Water-based and non-flammable — safer for enclosed, indoor and confined-space pours and easier to store
  • Produces high-quality fair-faced, stain-free concrete with fewer blow holes and surface blemishes
  • Non-staining and safe with white cement, preserving colour uniformity on architectural work
  • NIL chloride content (BS 5075) — no contribution to reinforcement corrosion
  • Compatible with virtually all formwork: timber, steel, plywood, GRP and resinous surfaces
  • Inhibits corrosion of steel formwork and extends usable mould life
  • Withstands steam curing at temperatures up to 75 degrees C
  • Supplied ready-to-use as a sprayable white liquid — no on-site dilution or mixing
  • Low odour and low solvent content versus conventional mould oils, improving site working conditions
  • Wide coverage range, up to 75 m2/litre on smooth steel, giving good economy

Limitations & considerations

  • No residual release film — every mould face must be freshly and fully re-coated before each pour
  • Pools or over-applied product must not be allowed to dry, or they will retard the concrete surface and cause soft, dusty patches
  • Requires a fine-nozzle sprayer or careful brushing to achieve a thin continuous film; coarse application wastes material and harms finish
  • Coverage varies widely with substrate (20 m2/litre on fair-faced plywood vs 75 m2/litre on smooth steel), so estimating must account for mould type
  • Being water-based, it can be affected by freezing in transit/storage and should be kept below 40 degrees C but above freezing
  • Contaminated/spilled areas become slippery and must be managed for site safety
  • Before any polyurethane re-sealing of moulds, all residual Reebol WB must be fully removed with detergent and rinsing to ensure adhesion

Selection & best practice

Prepare moulds first: remove all rust, old concrete and oil; lightly abrade smooth steel to improve wetting; on previously treated moulds a light brushing to leave fine dust actually improves absorption and release. Apply Reebol WB as a thin, continuous film using a mould-oil sprayer fitted with a fine nozzle (or brush for small areas), coating every face including the mould rims to stop overspill cement slurry sticking. Drain and wipe off any excess from the bottom of the mould with a sponge or cloth, and never let pools dry on the surface. Because there is no residual release, re-coat all areas before every single pour. After demoulding, brush or wipe the formwork clean of dust before re-application. Store in original sealed containers below 40 degrees C and use within the 12-month shelf life. Wear goggles when spraying and avoid inhaling the spray mist.

Industry use cases

Precast & Prestressed Concrete

Used on high-turnover steel and GRP moulds to give consistent fair-faced units with minimal blow holes; its non-staining nature and 75 degrees C steam-curing tolerance suit accelerated precast production lines.

Architectural / Fair-Faced Concrete

Specified for exposed columns, walls and feature panels where colour uniformity is critical and oil staining is unacceptable, including white-cement and pigmented mixes.

Infrastructure & Tunnel-Form Construction

Applied to steel and tunnel-form shutters in metro, bridge and large-frame projects where its corrosion-inhibiting, non-flammable, low-odour profile suits repeated cycles in enclosed conditions.

Commercial & Residential RCC

Used on plywood and steel formwork for columns, beams and slabs to ease stripping, reduce shutter damage and cut down post-stripping rubbing and remedial work.

Basement & Confined-Space Pours

Preferred over solvent-based mould oils in basements, water tanks and enclosed sheds because it is water-based, non-flammable and low in fumes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Reebol WB a shuttering oil?
It performs the same job as shuttering oil — releasing concrete from formwork — but it is a more advanced product. Reebol WB is a water-based chemical release agent: an emulsion of mineral oils and reactive chemicals that forms a water-repellent interface and vents entrapped air, giving cleaner, fair-faced results than a plain mineral mould oil, while being non-flammable and non-staining.
What is the coverage of Reebol WB?
Coverage ranges from 20 to 75 m2 per litre depending on the mould surface. On high-quality smooth steel you can achieve up to 75 m2/litre, while absorptive fair-faced plywood may need as much as one litre per 20 m2. Always estimate against the actual formwork type and apply only a thin continuous film.
Can Reebol WB be used with white cement and architectural concrete?
Yes. It is non-staining and is specifically suitable for use with white cement, so it is a good choice for fair-faced and architectural concrete where colour uniformity matters. Avoid over-application and never let pools dry on the mould, as that can locally retard and mark the surface.
Does Reebol WB leave a residual film for the next pour like conventional mould oil?
No. This is the key difference to remember. Reebol WB has no residual release properties because its chemistry is consumed each cycle. Every mould face, including the rims, must be freshly and fully re-coated before each and every pour; relying on a previous coat will cause sticking and surface defects.
Is Reebol WB safe for steel formwork and steam curing?
Yes on both counts. It actively inhibits corrosion of steel formwork and extends mould life, and it remains effective at elevated temperatures, withstanding steam curing up to 75 degrees C, which makes it suitable for accelerated precast production.
What packaging and shelf life does Reebol WB have, and is it available in India?
Reebol WB is supplied in 210 litre drums, with 20 litre packs also commonly available in the Indian market. It has a minimum shelf life of 12 months in original unopened containers stored below 40 degrees C. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

How we position Fosroc Reebol WB

Within the Fosroc Reebol family, Reebol WB is the water-based, non-flammable option positioned between basic neat mould oils and premium chemical release agents. Compared with the solvent-based standard Reebol (chemical mould release agent) and the Reebol Emulsion / Reebol Emulsion Xtra grades, Reebol WB is chosen when low fire risk, low odour and white-cement compatibility are priorities — for example in enclosed precast sheds and architectural work — though it trades away the residual-film convenience that the oilier grades offer. For projects needing higher-economy concentrate dilution, Reebol Emulsion Concentrate may suit better; for heavy-duty or specific reactive needs, Reebol M1 or Reebol Standard are the in-family alternatives. Against competitor products, Reebol WB sits alongside chemical/emulsion release agents such as Sika Separol / Sika Rugasol-based release lines, MBS (MB Solutions / formerly MBT) mould release agents, Dr. Fixit Shuttering Oil and STP shuttering/release products. Versus simple shuttering oils from these brands, Reebol WB’s advantages are its fair-faced finish quality, NIL chloride content and steel-corrosion inhibition; versus premium solvent chemical release agents, its edge is being water-based and non-flammable. Space Arc Engineering can advise on the right Reebol grade or equivalent for a given formwork system and finish specification.
