Fosroc Nitoseal GPN
A one-component, low-modulus neutral-cure silicone sealant engineered for weather-exposed building movement joints, facade glazing and masonry perimeters — with primerless adhesion across most common construction substrates.
What is it?
A single-component, low-modulus, neutral-cure silicone joint sealant from Fosroc’s Nitoseal range, ready to gun straight from the cartridge and cured by atmospheric moisture.
Where is it used?
Building expansion and movement joints, curtain walling, window and door frame perimeters, glazing, precast and lightweight cladding panels, and ceramic tiling junctions — internal or external.
Why use it?
It combines excellent weathering resistance with low-modulus flexibility and primerless adhesion to most substrates, while neutral cure keeps it non-corrosive on metals, glass and sensitive masonry.
How is it applied?
Prepare and back-up the joint, mask the edges, gun the sealant into the prepared profile, tool to a firm concave finish, then remove masking before skinning.
About Fosroc Nitoseal GPN
Fosroc Nitoseal GPN is a general-purpose, one-part silicone joint sealant that belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Nitoseal family of facade and building sealants. The “GP” denotes its general-purpose positioning and the “N” denotes neutral cure — the counterpart to Nitoseal GPA, which is the acetic-cure (acetoxy) version of the same general-purpose pairing. Where the acetic grade releases acetic acid during cure and is best confined to glass, glazed tile and sanitaryware, the neutral GPN grade cures without aggressive by-products, which is precisely what makes it suitable for the wider mix of concrete, masonry, coated metal and natural stone found on a typical Indian building envelope. As a low-modulus silicone, it develops a soft, highly extensible rubber that accommodates joint movement at low stress, so it pulls gently on the joint arrises rather than tearing weak substrates or stripping marginal adhesion. It is supplied ready to use — no mixing, no measuring, no pot-life pressure — and cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture to form a durable, elastomeric weather seal. For contractors and applicators across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, GPN is the everyday silicone reached for when a perimeter or movement joint has to stay watertight and flexible through monsoon, summer heat and thermal cycling, without the substrate restrictions of an acetic silicone. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, pairing the material with correct joint design, backing and tooling so the installed seal performs as the data sheet intends.
The technical insight
The defining technical characteristic of Nitoseal GPN is the combination of neutral cure chemistry with a low-modulus mechanical profile. Neutral-cure (as opposed to acetoxy) silicones release a non-acidic by-product as they cross-link with airborne moisture, which is the reason GPN can be used confidently on alkaline concrete, masonry, marble and metals that would be at risk of corrosion or staining from acetic silicones. The low-modulus behaviour means the cured rubber resists movement at low tensile stress — important because a joint sealant only protects the structure if it can stretch and compress repeatedly across the design movement without exceeding the adhesive or cohesive strength of the bond. In practice this couples a high movement capability with forgiving adhesion: Fosroc states GPN offers primerless adhesion on most materials, which removes a step on routine substrates while still leaving priming available for difficult or porous faces. Because cure is moisture-driven and works inward from the exposed surface, deep or fully confined joint geometry slows through-cure, which is exactly why correct joint depth control and an open-cell or closed-cell backer rod matter — they bound the sealant depth, give it the right back-up to tool against, and prevent three-sided adhesion that would defeat the low-modulus movement design.
Where it is used
- Internal and external structural and non-structural expansion / movement joints in framed and load-bearing buildings
- Perimeter sealing of brickwork, blockwork and precast concrete panel construction
- Composite and lightweight cladding / panel joints
- Curtain walling joints and stack joints on the building envelope
- Weather-sealing around window and door frame surrounds
- Glazing joints and perimeter pointing of glazed assemblies
- Junctions and movement gaps associated with ceramic tiling on facades and wet areas
- Sealing on concrete and masonry substrates where a non-corrosive neutral silicone is required
Key advantages
- One-component and ready to use — no mixing, measuring or pot-life management on site
- Low-modulus silicone accommodates joint movement at low stress, protecting weaker substrate arrises
- Neutral cure is non-corrosive and non-staining, so it suits concrete, masonry, metals and stone, not just glass
- Primerless adhesion on most common construction substrates, reducing labour and primer cost
- Excellent resistance to weathering, UV and the temperature extremes of Indian climates
- Good slump / sag resistance, allowing clean tooling of vertical and overhead facade joints
- Cures by atmospheric moisture to a durable, permanently flexible elastomeric seal
- Backed by Fosroc technical support and the wider Nitoseal facade-sealing system
Limitations & considerations
- As a silicone, the cured surface is generally not over-paintable — silicone does not accept most coatings, unlike polyurethane or MS-polymer sealants
- Not intended for continuously immersed or hydrostatic water-retaining joints; for water-retaining structures Fosroc directs users to polysulphide / polyurethane systems such as Thioflex 600 or Nitoseal PS200
- Not a trafficked horizontal floor / pavement joint sealant — those require self-levelling or trafficable grades such as Colpor 200PF or Nitoseal SC ranges
- Silicone residue can contaminate adjacent surfaces and impair the adhesion of later coatings or other sealants if not masked and cleaned properly
- Moisture-cure means deep, fully confined joints cure slowly from the surface inward; correct joint depth and backer rod are essential
- Adhesion to oily, dusty, frosty or unsound substrates is unreliable — surface preparation is non-negotiable
- Specific movement accommodation factor, colour range, pack sizes and standard classifications should be confirmed against the current regional Fosroc data sheet before specification
Selection & best practice
Design and install GPN as a two-sided movement joint, never three-sided. Set the joint width from the calculated thermal and structural movement, then control depth with a closed-cell (or open-cell, per site moisture) polyethylene backer rod or a bond-breaker tape so the sealant bonds only to the two opposing faces. For elastomeric movement joints a width-to-depth ratio of roughly 2:1 is the usual target (commonly around 10–12 mm sealant depth for typical joint widths, with minimum depth maintained at narrow joints) — confirm the exact profile against the Fosroc data sheet for the joint width in question. Substrates must be sound, clean, dry and free of dust, oil, laitance and old sealant; mechanically prepare friable concrete or masonry. GPN is primerless on most materials, but prime porous, marginal or critical substrates and always run an adhesion / compatibility test on unfamiliar faces. Mask both joint arrises before gunning for a crisp line, fill the joint fully to avoid air entrapment, then tool to a firm concave profile to wet the sealant onto both faces and consolidate it. Remove masking tape immediately, before the surface skins. Protect the fresh bead from rain, dust and traffic until cure has developed, and keep silicone away from any surface that will later be painted or sealed with a different product.

How we position Fosroc Nitoseal GPN
Nitoseal GPN sits in Fosroc’s range as the everyday, general-purpose neutral-cure silicone for weather-exposed building movement and perimeter joints — the non-corrosive, wider-substrate partner to the acetic-cure Nitoseal GPA. Within the Fosroc family, choose by joint duty rather than habit: GPN (or higher-performance MS-polymer hybrids like Nitoseal MS60 / MS600) for paint-free facade and glazing joints; a polyurethane such as Nitoseal PU40 where over-paintability or abrasion is needed; a polysulphide such as Thioflex 600 or Nitoseal PS200 for water-retaining and chemically demanding joints; and a poured grade such as Colpor 200PF for trafficked horizontal pavement and floor joints. Against competitor silicones, GPN competes with neutral-cure low-modulus products such as Sika Sikaflex / Sikasil weatherproofing silicones, MBCC/Master Builders MasterSeal silicone weather sealants, and STP (Pidilite) construction silicones; the practical decision usually comes down to verified movement class, substrate compatibility and locally available technical and applicator support. For exact movement accommodation factor, colour range, pack sizes and standard classifications (such as ISO 11600), always confirm against the current regional Fosroc data sheet before specifying, and contact Space Arc Engineering for project-specific selection, supply and application in Delhi NCR and across India.
