What is it?

Proofex ORG is Fosroc’s 1.5 mm reinforced thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO/FPA) waterproofing sheet membrane, supplied in rolls and joined by hot-air welding to form a continuous loose-laid waterproof barrier.

Where is it used?

Podiums and plaza decks, flat and sloping roofs, green/garden roofs, car-park decks and below-ground structures such as basements and retaining walls.

Why use it?

It is cold-applied with no flame or solvents, contains no plasticisers or VOCs, resists UV, weathering and root penetration, and forms homogeneous welded seams stronger than the sheet itself.

How is it applied?

Rolls are loose-laid (or mechanically fixed) over a prepared substrate, overlapped a minimum of 50 mm and seam-welded with manual or automatic hot-air equipment, then detailed with matching TPO accessories.

About Fosroc Proofex ORG

Fosroc Proofex ORG is a factory-produced, reinforced sheet membrane based on a thermoplastic polyolefin system the manufacturer designates TPO/FPA (Flexible Polypropylene Alloy). It is made by extruding granules formed when ethylene-propylene rubber is incorporated into a polypropylene matrix, giving a sheet that behaves like a flexible rubber but is fully thermoplastic, so seams can be fused by heat rather than glued. Each sheet is manufactured in two colours, grey on the top face and black on the underside, a deliberate “signal layer” so that site supervisors can immediately spot mechanical damage, scuffing or thin spots before the deck is closed up. The membrane is 1.5 mm thick and carries an internal scrim reinforcement that gives it dimensional stability and the high mechanical strength a foot-trafficked podium or ballasted roof demands. For Indian contractors more familiar with torch-applied APP/SBS bitumen felts, the important mental shift is that Proofex ORG is a single-ply, cold-applied, weldable system: there is no naked flame, no bitumen smoke and no bonding adhesive across the field of the sheet. It is the loose-laid reinforced member of Fosroc’s wider Proofex TPO family, which also includes the fleece-backed Proofex OFB and the fully-bonded Proofex OGP for situations where the membrane must adhere directly to the structure. Independently it has been tested to AS 4654.1-2012 as a Class III (external/exposed) membrane and is covered by BBA Certificate 15/5242, which matters to consultants who want third-party assurance rather than manufacturer claims alone.

The technical insight

The performance story of Proofex ORG is best read through its EN test results. Tensile strength is 714 N/50 mm longitudinally and 602 N/50 mm transversely (EN 12311-2), while elongation at break exceeds 1000% in the longitudinal direction and 950% transversely, so the sheet can bridge shrinkage cracks and accommodate thermal movement without rupturing. Water impermeability is verified to 60 kPa under EN 1928-B, dynamic puncture resistance is established to EN 12691, and hail resistance exceeds 26 m/s (EN 13583). Crucially for exposed and green-roof use, UV resistance under EN 1297 passed 2500 hours of accelerated weathering with no cracking, and the membrane passed EN 12224/EN 846-class micro-organism and root-resistance assessment. The single most decisive technical feature, however, is the seam: because the polymer is thermoplastic, overlaps welded with hot air re-melt and fuse the two sheets into one homogeneous mass. A correctly executed weld is therefore not a “joint” that can creep or peel like a taped or solvent-bonded lap, it is effectively continuous membrane. That is why weld quality control, probe-testing every seam and respecting the minimum 50 mm overlap, is the governing variable on a Proofex ORG installation.

Where it is used

  • Podium decks and plaza slabs over occupied basements and car parks
  • Flat and sloping roofs, including exposed (ballast-free) and ballasted systems
  • Green roofs and garden/landscaped terraces requiring root resistance
  • Below-ground basements, raft slabs and retaining walls (tanking)
  • Multi-level car-park and parking decks beneath wearing surfaces or pavers
  • Refurbishment / overlay of failed existing waterproofing where mechanical fixing is preferred

Key advantages

  • Cold-applied with no naked flame, no torching and no hot bitumen, improving site safety and suiting fire-sensitive or occupied buildings
  • Hot-air welded seams fuse into a homogeneous, fully watertight joint stronger than a taped or adhesive lap
  • Contains no plasticisers, no VOCs and is non-toxic, so it will not embrittle with age the way plasticised PVC can
  • High resistance to UV and weathering (2500 hrs to EN 1297) makes it suitable for permanently exposed roofs
  • Inherent resistance to root penetration suits green and garden roofs without a separate root barrier
  • Very high elongation (>1000%) bridges structural movement and shrinkage cracking
  • Two-colour construction (grey/black) gives an instant visual check for site damage
  • Loose-laid (or mechanically fixed) so it tolerates minor substrate imperfections and can be installed quickly over large areas

Limitations & considerations

  • Requires hot-air welding plant (automatic or hand welder) and trained operatives; seam quality depends entirely on welding skill and QC
  • As a loose-laid system it generally needs ballast, pavers or mechanical fixing to resist wind uplift on exposed roofs
  • Not compatible with direct contact with bitumen, tar or some solvents; isolation/separation layers may be required over bituminous substrates
  • TPO and PVC membranes are chemically incompatible and must never be welded to one another
  • Penetrations, upstands and complex details rely on matching Proofex TPO accessories and preformed corners rather than the field sheet alone
  • Storage and shelf life must be respected, rolls kept dry, below 30 degrees C, stored horizontally and not stacked more than one pallet high

Selection & best practice

Specify and install Proofex ORG as a complete system, not just a sheet. Begin with a sound, smooth, dry substrate free of sharp protrusions and standing water; over rough or bituminous decks add an appropriate separation/protection layer. Set out rolls so laps run with the fall, overlap a minimum of 50 mm and weld every seam with calibrated hot-air equipment, hand welders for details and an automatic welder for long field runs, checking welds with a seam probe once cooled. Detail all upstands, drains, pipes and internal/external corners with Fosroc’s matching Proofex TPO accessories and preformed pieces, and seal perimeters and terminations with Nitoseal MS400 or Proofex Torchseal flashing as appropriate. On podiums and green roofs, install the specified protection board and drainage/filter layers before backfilling or landscaping, and provide ballast, pavers or mechanical fixing on exposed roofs to resist wind uplift. Always trial-weld at the start of each shift to confirm temperature and speed settings against the day’s site conditions, and protect the completed membrane from following trades.

Industry use cases

Residential & commercial podiums

Waterproofing landscaped podium decks and plaza slabs over basement car parks in high-rise townships, where root resistance and high elongation protect occupied space below.

Roofing (exposed & green)

Single-ply roofing for flat and sloping roofs, including ballasted and green-roof build-ups, using the UV-stable grey membrane as the permanent exposed surface.

Infrastructure & car parks

Deck waterproofing on multi-storey and basement car parks beneath wearing courses or pavers, where welded seams resist hydrostatic and traffic-induced stress.

Below-ground / basements

Tanking of basements, raft slabs and retaining walls where a tough, flame-free, weldable membrane is preferred over torch-applied bitumen in confined or fire-sensitive areas.

Refurbishment

Mechanically fixed overlay of failed older waterproofing on roofs and decks, avoiding full strip-out while restoring a monolithic welded barrier.

Frequently asked questions

What type of membrane is Fosroc Proofex ORG?
It is a 1.5 mm thick, loose-laid, reinforced single-ply waterproofing membrane based on a thermoplastic polyolefin system Fosroc calls TPO/FPA (Flexible Polypropylene Alloy), produced by blending ethylene-propylene rubber into a polypropylene matrix. It is cold-applied and the overlaps are joined by hot-air welding.
How are the seams joined and what overlap is needed?
Seams are fused by hot air using a manual or automatic welder, which re-melts and fuses adjacent sheets into one homogeneous mass. A minimum overlap of 50 mm is required, and every weld should be probe-tested once cooled to confirm a continuous bond.
Is Proofex ORG suitable for green and garden roofs?
Yes. It has inherent resistance to root penetration and passed micro-organism resistance testing, and its UV resistance (2500 hrs to EN 1297) plus high elongation make it well suited to landscaped roofs, podiums and garden terraces, typically with the appropriate protection and drainage layers above.
What roll size does it come in and what does a roll weigh?
It is supplied in rolls 25 m long and 2.1 m wide, weighing approximately 80 kg per roll, at a sheet weight of 1.43 kg/m². Rolls should be stored dry, below 30 degrees C, horizontally and not stacked more than one pallet high.
Can Proofex ORG be welded to PVC or applied over bitumen?
No. TPO and PVC membranes are chemically incompatible and cannot be welded together, and the membrane should not be in direct contact with bitumen, tar or certain solvents. Where it overlays bituminous substrates, an appropriate separation or protection layer is needed.
Is it standards-approved for use on Indian projects?
Proofex ORG is covered by BBA Certificate 15/5242 and has been independently tested to AS 4654.1-2012 as a Class III (external/exposed) membrane. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering can supply the current India TDS and project-specific specifications across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

How we position Fosroc Proofex ORG

Within Fosroc’s own range, Proofex ORG sits at the loose-laid end of the Proofex TPO family: choose it where the deck can be ballasted, paved or mechanically fixed, step up to the fleece-backed Proofex OFB or the fully-adhered Proofex OGP where the membrane must bond directly to the structure, and pair all of them with Nitoseal MS400 sealant, Proofex Torchseal flashing and matching Proofex TPO accessories for terminations and details. For below-ground work it complements Fosroc’s pre-applied and bituminous systems such as Proofex Engage and the Proofex 3000 self-adhesive range, which remain the go-to where a bonded or pre-applied approach is specified. Against the wider Indian market, Proofex ORG competes with Sika’s Sarnafil and Sikaplan TPO single-ply membranes, Renolit Alkorplan, and TPO/PVC sheets from suppliers like STP Limited; for liquid-applied or bituminous alternatives, contractors often weigh it against Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) membranes and crystalline/coating systems, and MBS (MYK) waterproofing products. Honestly assessed, single-ply TPO like Proofex ORG wins on flame-free installation, weldable monolithic seams, UV stability and green-roof root resistance, but it demands trained welding crews and good QC, so on small or detail-heavy areas a liquid-applied membrane may be more practical. As a Fosroc-authorised distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering can help consultants and contractors in Delhi NCR and across India specify the right Proofex variant and accessories for each deck rather than defaulting to a single product.
