What is it?

A two-part, total-solid, electrostatic-conductive self-smoothing epoxy resin from Sika, carrying conductivity through embedded carbon fibres. It is the wearing course of the Sikafloor Multidur ES-28 ECF/EQ cleanroom system.

Where is it used?

Cleanrooms and controlled-emission areas — optical and lens manufacturing, medical device and pharma production, semiconductor and electronics assembly, space/aerospace, plus hard-wearing industrial and warehouse floors.

Why use it?

It safely drains static to earth (Rg below 10^9 ohm), releases almost no VOC/AMC or particles, and gives a liquid-tight gloss surface that decontaminates easily — the three things a cleanroom or ESD auditor checks first.

How is it applied?

Poured at roughly 1.5 mm, spread with a serrated trowel over a primed, earthed concrete substrate, then spike-rolled within 10 minutes to release air and level the film.

About Sika Sikafloor-269 ECF CR

Sikafloor-269 ECF CR sits at the demanding end of Sika’s flooring range: a resin built not just to take traffic, but to satisfy the emission and static-control limits that govern cleanroom and electronics-grade production. It is a two-part, solvent-free epoxy in which carbon fibres form a continuous conductive network through the film. That network is what lets accumulated static charge bleed safely to earth instead of arcing across a sensitive wafer, an explosive atmosphere, or an operating theatre. Because it is a total-solid formulation, there is effectively no solvent to flash off, and the product is certified under ISO 14644-1 (class 4 particle) and ISO 14644-8 (class -9.6 outgassing) — the numbers a validation engineer needs on file before a room can be signed off.

For Indian specifiers, the appeal is that one wearing course answers several briefs at once. In an optical, pharma, or semiconductor facility it delivers the ultra-low VOC/AMC and particle behaviour that regulated cleanrooms mandate; in an electronics or ordnance plant it delivers ATEX-137-compliant conductivity; and in a general warehouse or automotive bay it simply behaves as a hard, liquid-proof, easy-to-clean gloss floor. It is free of organo-phosphates and phthalates, conforms to LEED EQ Credit 4.2 for low-emitting coatings, and carries CE marking under both EN 13813 (screed) and EN 1504-2 (concrete protection). The trade-off worth flagging up front is that exact colour matching is not possible — the carbon fibres tint the finish — so it is chosen for performance zones rather than showpiece aesthetics.

The technical insight

The mechanism that matters here is the conductive path to earth, and it only works as a system. The carbon fibres dispersed through Sikafloor-269 ECF CR create a three-dimensional conductive lattice within the ~1.5 mm film, giving a resistance to ground (Rg) below 10^9 ohm and typically under 10^6 ohm when measured per IEC 61340-4-1 and DIN EN 1081. But that lattice has to terminate somewhere: the floor is laid over a conductive primer and copper earthing tapes bonded back to the building’s ground, so the whole build-up behaves as one continuous drain for static. Skip the earthing grid and you are left with an ordinary — if very clean — epoxy floor, not a compliant ESD surface. Equally, the readings drift with ambient temperature and humidity, which is why acceptance testing should be done under the room’s actual operating conditions rather than a hot, dry install day. The total-solid chemistry is the second half of the story: with ~100% solids by weight and volume there is almost no solvent to outgas, which is precisely why the product clears the ISO 14644-8 outgassing class and the sub-100 g/l VOC threshold that cleanrooms demand.

Where it is used

  • Cleanroom floors for optical and lens manufacturing where AMC/VOC and particle limits are enforced
  • Pharmaceutical and GMP production areas requiring easy decontamination and a liquid-tight surface
  • Semiconductor, PCB and electronics assembly zones needing reliable static dissipation to earth
  • Explosion-risk and ATEX-classified areas such as ordnance, solvent handling and flammable-atmosphere rooms
  • Medical device manufacturing and hospital environments where charge control and hygiene both matter
  • Space and aerospace assembly clean areas with strict outgassing requirements
  • Hard-wearing course for automotive production and quality bays
  • Storage facilities and warehouses needing a durable, dust-free, chemical-resistant floor

Key advantages

  • Genuine ESD control — resistance to ground below 10^9 ohm, typically under 10^6 ohm (IEC 61340-4-1)
  • ATEX-137 compliant, making it usable in classified explosion-risk zones
  • Ultra-low VOC/AMC and low particle emission, certified to ISO 14644-1 class 4 and ISO 14644-8 class -9.6
  • Total-solid (100% solids) epoxy — no solvent flash-off, LEED EQ 4.2 conforming
  • Free of organo-phosphates and phthalates, and biologically resistant per ISO 846
  • Liquid-proof gloss finish that is easy to clean and decontaminate
  • Strong mechanical performance: ~100 N/mm2 compressive, ~44 N/mm2 flexural, Shore D ~84
  • CE marked under EN 13813 and EN 1504-2, with 24-month shelf life

Limitations & considerations

  • Exact colour matching is not possible — carbon fibres tint the film, and bright shades (yellow, orange) show it most; some UV discolouration can occur without affecting performance
  • Only functions as an ESD floor when laid over a conductive primer and a properly bonded copper earthing grid to building ground
  • Resistance-to-ground readings vary with temperature and humidity, so acceptance testing must reflect real operating conditions
  • Short pot life — about 30 minutes at +20°C and only ~15 minutes at +30°C — demands disciplined, fast placement
  • Restricted application window: +15°C to +30°C, humidity 80% RH max, substrate at least 3°C above dew point and under 4% moisture
  • For experienced professional applicators only; substrate must be sound, primed and prepared to a minimum 25 N/mm2 compressive and 1.5 N/mm2 pull-off strength

Selection & best practice

Treat the earthing grid as part of the floor, not an afterthought — set out copper tapes and bond them to building ground before the conductive primer goes down, and record continuity. Mechanically prepare the concrete (blast or scarify) to remove laitance and open the surface, confirm it is under 4% moisture and above 25 N/mm2, then prime. Blend Part A and B at 83:17 by weight for a full 2 minutes, add Sikadur 501 IN filler and mix a further 2 minutes, decant and remix to avoid unmixed material, but do not over-mix and entrain air. Pour and spread with a serrated trowel to about 1.5 mm at up to 2.0 kg/m2, then spike-roll in two directions at 90 degrees within 10 minutes to level and de-air. Work to the pot life for your site temperature — plan smaller batches in summer. Keep ambient and substrate between +15°C and +30°C, humidity at or below 80% RH, and verify resistance-to-ground under operating conditions before handover.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sikafloor-269 ECF CR conductive or dissipative?
It is a conductive system: resistance to ground stays below 10^9 ohm and is typically under 10^6 ohm per IEC 61340-4-1. That places it in the conductive band suited to ATEX-137 explosion-risk areas as well as general ESD protection, rather than the higher-resistance dissipative range.
How much material do I need per square metre?
Budget up to about 2.0 kg/m2 for the roughly 1.5 mm self-smoothing wearing course, including the Sikadur 501 IN filler. That figure is theoretical — add for surface porosity, profile, level variation and wastage on real substrates.
Does the floor work without a separate earthing system?
No. The carbon-fibre network only dissipates static if it terminates at earth, so a conductive primer and copper earthing tapes bonded to building ground are essential. Without that grid it performs as an ordinary epoxy, not a compliant ESD floor.
Can I get it in a specific colour to match our branding?
A wide range of shades is available, but exact colour matching is not possible because the carbon fibres tint the film — and bright colours like yellow or orange show this most. Some UV-related variation can also occur, without affecting performance. It is specified for function, not colour precision.
What condition does the concrete need to be in before application?
Sound, clean and mechanically prepared (blasted or scarified) to remove laitance, with a minimum 25 N/mm2 compressive and 1.5 N/mm2 pull-off strength, under 4% moisture, and primed. Ambient and substrate temperature should sit between +15°C and +30°C at 80% RH maximum.
Which cleanroom and emission standards does it meet?
It is certified to ISO 14644-1 class 4 for particle emission and ISO 14644-8 class -9.6 for outgassing, conforms to LEED EQ Credit 4.2 with VOC under 100 g/l, is biologically resistant per ISO 846, and carries CE marking under EN 13813 and EN 1504-2.

How we position Sika Sikafloor-269 ECF CR

Sikafloor-269 ECF CR is the specification-grade choice when a floor must satisfy cleanroom emission limits and static control together — optical, pharma, semiconductor and aerospace work. Within the Sika family it is the wearing course of the Sikafloor Multidur ES-28 ECF/EQ system, laid over a Sika conductive primer with the earthing grid and Sikadur 501 IN filler; where cleanroom-grade emission control is not required and only ESD/anti-static performance is needed, Sikafloor-264 ECF is the more economical Sika sibling. As authorised Sika distributors and applicators we also supply genuine equivalents from other brands we carry, so specifiers can match budget and lead time without compromising compliance.
