What is it?

A high-solids, aliphatic polyurethane textured seal coat, supplied as a 3-part unpigmented or 4-part pigmented system, used as the final wear layer over Sikafloor epoxy floors.

Where is it used?

High-traffic industrial and commercial floors — warehouses, production halls, workshops and parking areas where the finish faces abrasion, impact and daylight exposure.

Why use it?

It seals and protects the epoxy build coat, resists wear and impact, holds a slip-resistant texture, and stays non-yellowing under UV where standard epoxy would chalk and discolour.

How is it applied?

Trowel-spread over a cured, roughened Sikafloor epoxy substrate at roughly 0.08 mm wet film, then immediately back-rolled with a short-pile roller to develop an even texture.

About Sika Sikafloor-315

Sikafloor-315 is the wear-and-seal topcoat that finishes a Sika resin floor system. It is an aliphatic polyurethane built on high solids, and it is supplied in two forms: a three-part unpigmented set for a clear seal, or a four-part pigmented set when a coloured finish such as RAL 7035 Light Grey or RAL 7040 Window Grey is specified. The powder Part C is a filler that builds the characteristic texture, so the coat you lay down is not a glossy film but a fine, grippy surface that shrugs off foot and light wheeled traffic. Because it sits on top of the epoxy build layers rather than doing the levelling itself, it is a thin coat by design — the job is protection and appearance, not thickness.

For engineers and applicators in India, the reason this product earns its place is chemistry rather than marketing. Ordinary epoxy topcoats chalk, yellow and lose gloss when daylight or UV reaches them, which is a common complaint on floors near shutters, skylights and loading bays. An aliphatic polyurethane like Sikafloor-315 keeps its colour and appearance under that exposure while adding real abrasion and impact resistance to the system. It is a professionals-only material — Sika states it may only be used by experienced applicators — because the thin film, short working window and substrate preparation leave little room for improvisation. Applied correctly over a sound epoxy base, it turns a functional resin floor into a durable, presentable, long-service surface.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the aliphatic polyurethane backbone. Aromatic polyurethanes and standard epoxies both absorb UV and break down at the surface — they chalk, yellow and lose gloss. Aliphatic PU chemistry does not carry the light-sensitive bonds that drive that reaction, so the coat holds its colour and finish where sunlight reaches the floor. On top of that, the cured film is genuinely hard (Shore pencil hardness 2H to 3H, tensile strength around 19.8 MPa at 28 days) and the powder filler in Part C builds a micro-texture that lifts the dry coefficient of friction above 0.5, so the same coat that protects the floor also makes it safer underfoot. The trade-off is that it is a reactive, thin, high-solids system: do not thin it, because added solvent slows the cure and permanently weakens the film, and keep humidity and dew point in check during cure so the surface does not bloom.

Where it is used

  • Seal and wear coat over cured Sikafloor epoxy self-levelling and coating systems
  • Warehouse and distribution-centre floors under heavy foot and light-wheeled traffic
  • Production halls and manufacturing floors needing abrasion and impact resistance
  • Workshops and maintenance bays where spills and mechanical wear are routine
  • Parking and internal traffic zones requiring a durable, slip-resistant finish
  • Floors near skylights, roller shutters and loading docks exposed to daylight/UV
  • Commercial areas where a coloured, non-yellowing, textured finish is specified
  • Areas needing a grippy surface with a dry coefficient of friction above 0.5

Key advantages

  • High-solids aliphatic PU chemistry that stays non-yellowing under UV and daylight
  • Excellent abrasion, wear and impact resistance (heavy-duty 1000 g / 1 m impact rating)
  • Textured finish that raises the dry coefficient of friction above 0.5 for slip resistance
  • Good chemical resistance to routine spills and cleaning regimes
  • Low VOC content of around 100–107 g/L for the class
  • Available unpigmented for a clear seal or pigmented in standard RAL colours
  • Protects and extends the service life of the underlying epoxy floor system
  • Hard, dense film (2H–3H pencil hardness, ~19.8 MPa tensile) for demanding traffic

Limitations & considerations

  • Thin sealer coat — it cannot hide substrate unevenness, dirt inclusions or a poorly finished epoxy base
  • Must not be thinned; adding solvent slows cure and permanently reduces final properties
  • Short application window and thin wet film demand an experienced applicator
  • May yellow slightly in true exterior exposure, so it is intended for interior/covered use
  • Freshly applied coat must be protected from damp, condensation and water for at least 24 hours at +20°C
  • Sensitive to humidity and dew point during cure — condensation causes blooming of the finish

Selection & best practice

Treat the epoxy substrate as the make-or-break step. The Sikafloor epoxy build coat must be fully cured, clean, sound and dry, with pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm², and it should be lightly abraded with Scotch-Brite-type pads and vacuumed before you start. Mix strictly to the 100:15:75:22 ratio by weight: charge Part A, blend in Part B for one minute, add pigmented Part D if used and mix two minutes, then add the Part C powder slowly while mixing to avoid clumping, and never over-mix or you entrain air. Work in taped-off sections that can be finished without stopping — divide at joints or doorways — and control the wet film at roughly 0.08 mm before immediately back-rolling with a short-pile roller for an even texture. Keep product, substrate and air between +10°C and +30°C, humidity between 30% and 75%, and the floor at least 3°C above dew point. If heating is needed, use only electric warm-air blowers, never gas or fuel-fired heaters, which release CO₂ and moisture that ruin the finish.

Frequently asked questions

Can Sikafloor-315 be applied straight onto concrete?
No. It is a seal and wear coat designed to go over a cured Sikafloor epoxy system, not directly onto bare concrete. The epoxy build coat does the levelling and bonding; Sikafloor-315 protects and finishes it. The epoxy must be sound, dry and lightly abraded first, with pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm².
What is the difference between the 3-part and 4-part packs?
The 3-part (5.38 kg) unpigmented set gives a clear seal, while the 4-part (6 kg) set adds a pigment paste (Part D) for a coloured finish such as RAL 7035 Light Grey or RAL 7040 Window Grey. Both include the Part C powder that builds the texture, so the choice is simply clear versus coloured.
How much material do I need per square metre?
Theoretical consumption is about 0.08 litres (0.128 kg) per m² per coat at roughly 0.08 mm dry film thickness. That figure does not allow for surface porosity, profile, level variation or wastage, so plan for extra. Applying too little causes roller marks and gloss differences; too much causes water retention.
Will it yellow or fade over time?
Indoors and under covered daylight it stays non-yellowing because it is an aliphatic polyurethane, which is exactly why it outperforms standard epoxy topcoats near skylights and shutters. In genuine exterior exposure some slight yellowing can occur, so it is specified for interior and covered applications.
Can I thin it to make application easier?
No. Sika is explicit that this product must not be thinned. Added solvent slows the cure and permanently reduces the final mechanical and chemical properties of the film. Mix strictly to the 100:15:75:22 ratio by weight and apply as supplied.
What conditions do I need to control during application and cure?
Keep product, substrate and air between +10°C and +30°C, relative humidity between 30% and 75%, and the floor at least 3°C above the dew point to avoid condensation and blooming. Protect the fresh coat from damp and water for at least 24 hours at +20°C, and use only electric warm-air heaters if heating is required.

How we position Sika Sikafloor-315

Sikafloor-315 is the finishing coat, not a standalone floor — it belongs on top of a Sika epoxy build such as a Sikafloor self-levelling or coating system, which is where a specifier should start when scoping the full build-up. Within the Sika family it pairs naturally with the primers and epoxy coats of the Sikafloor range, and Sika Level or SikaCem cementitious levellers where the substrate needs correction before the resin system goes down. Where the requirement is a heavy-duty dry-shake hardener cast into fresh concrete rather than a coating over cured resin, that is a different construction stage — look to a monolithic floor hardener like Fosroc Nitoflor Hardtop instead, which we also supply. As Sika’s authorised distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc can specify the complete floor system end to end and advise on where a UV-stable PU seal coat is the right call versus an in-slab hardener or a self-levelling epoxy.
