SikaWrap-601 C IN

India-grade woven unidirectional carbon fabric for external structural reinforcement

Product Overview

SikaWrap-601 C IN is an India-manufactured, woven unidirectional carbon fibre fabric used for the externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) of structural members. The high-strength carbon filaments run in the 0 degree direction, while a small proportion of heat-set glass weft holds the weave stable during handling and wet lay-up. Saturated on site with Sikadur epoxy, the dry fabric transforms into a stiff carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate that adds tensile capacity exactly where a column, beam or slab needs it. Engineers specify it to raise flexural, shear and axial capacity, to improve seismic ductility, and to compensate for corroded or under-designed steel. It suits concrete, brickwork, masonry and timber. Space Arc Engineering, an authorized Sika project distributor in India, supplies SikaWrap-601 C IN with the matched primer and laminating resins for complete strengthening systems.

Features & Benefits

  • Unidirectional 600 g/m² carbon weave delivers very high tensile capacity along the fibre direction for targeted load addition
  • Extremely thin 0.33 mm laminate adds strength without altering member size or adding significant dead load
  • Conforms to round columns, square corners and curved soffits, allowing wrapping of complex geometries on site
  • Non-corroding carbon reinforcement is unaffected by moisture and chloride attack, unlike supplementary steel
  • Heat-set weft keeps fibres straight and the fabric square during impregnation for consistent laminate quality
  • Compatible Sikadur primer and saturant complete a proven, code-referenced CFRP strengthening system

Technical Highlights

CoveragePrimer/first layer approximately 0.8 to 1.2 kg/m², subsequent layers 0.5 to 0.8 kg/m², and fabric impregnation 0.4 to 0.6 kg/m²; verify against project lay-up and refer to TDS.
StrengthDry-fibre tensile strength about 4,900 N/mm², tensile modulus around 250,000 N/mm² and elongation at break near 2.1%.
PerformanceFunctions as the tensile reinforcement of a field-formed CFRP laminate, boosting flexural, shear and axial-confinement capacity once cured with Sikadur epoxy.
Application ConditionsSubstrate must offer a minimum pull-off tensile strength of 1.0 N/mm² and be clean, sound and free of laitance; refer to TDS for surface preparation.
PackagingRoll width 500 mm with a minimum length of about 50 m per roll, supplied in a cardboard carton.

Applications

  • Seismic retrofit of RC columns in bridges and elevated corridors to add confinement and ductility
  • Flexural and shear strengthening of beams and slabs in industrial plants carrying revised equipment loads
  • Upgrading commercial floor slabs for change of use, such as office to records storage with higher live loads
  • Reinforcing masonry walls and lintels in heritage and residential buildings against cracking and out-of-plane forces
  • Restoring capacity of corrosion-damaged RC members in coastal and water-treatment structures

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SikaWrap-601 C IN used for?

It is a unidirectional carbon fibre fabric used for externally bonded reinforcement of concrete, masonry and timber. Saturated with Sikadur epoxy, it forms a CFRP laminate that increases flexural, shear and axial capacity and improves seismic performance of beams, columns and slabs.

Which epoxy resins are used with SikaWrap-601 C IN?

It is applied as part of the wet lay-up system with Sikadur-330 IN as the primer/levelling resin and Sikadur-300 IN as the impregnating and laminating resin. Always follow the system specification and the product TDS.

What surface preparation does SikaWrap-601 C IN need?

The substrate should be sound, clean and laitance-free with a minimum pull-off tensile strength of about 1.0 N/mm². Concrete is typically ground and dust-removed; refer to the TDS for full preparation and any required filling of voids.

How many layers of SikaWrap-601 C IN can be applied?

The number of plies depends on the structural design and required capacity, and multiple layers can be built up. The exact lay-up must be defined by the strengthening designer; refer to the TDS for consumption per layer.
