BrandSTPCategoryIndustrial FlooringFormA two-component, solvent-free, 100% solids self-levelling epoxy floor topping from STP that carries fire-retardant…

What is it?

A two-component, solvent-free, 100% solids self-levelling epoxy floor topping from STP that carries fire-retardant additives, laid at 1-2 mm to give a smooth, seamless, pigmented finish.

Where is it used?

Electrical substations, cable basements and transformer rooms, factory escape routes, petrochemical and chemical plant floors, and flammable-goods storage where flame spread must be controlled.

Why use it?

It combines a hard-wearing, chemical-resistant self-smoothing epoxy floor with a formulation that resists ignition and slows flame spread, so a single system handles both durability and fire-safety intent.

How is it applied?

Priming of a sound, dry substrate, then site-mixing of the pre-weighed base and hardener and pouring the self-levelling topping, spread and de-aerated to a 1-2 mm monolithic film.

About STP ShaliFloor SL FR 2E

ShaliFloor SL FR 2E is STP’s answer to a specific problem: how do you give a plant room, a cable floor or a substation a proper industrial epoxy finish without introducing a surface that helps a fire along. It is a two-component, solvent-free system supplied in pre-weighed packs, mixed on site and poured as a self-levelling topping at 1-2 mm. Because it is 100% solids, there is effectively no solvent flash-off during cure, which makes it far more comfortable to lay in enclosed rooms, basements and switchgear areas than solvent-borne coatings. The cured film is a smooth, non-porous, pigmented surface available in a range of RAL shades, so specifiers can colour-code hazard zones, walkways and equipment bays.

What sets this grade apart from a standard self-levelling epoxy is the fire-retardant chemistry built into the resin system. Ordinary epoxy floors are organic and will burn; ShaliFloor SL FR 2E is formulated to resist ignition and slow the spread of flame across the floor, which is why STP positions it for escape routes, electrical rooms and flammable-storage areas rather than general warehousing. It still behaves like a quality industrial floor day to day: hard, easy to clean, resistant to spillage from oils, mild chemicals and process fluids, and tough enough to take pedestrian traffic and light-to-medium trolley and equipment loads. For Delhi NCR and Pan-India projects, Space Arc Engineering supplies the genuine STP material and can carry out the application with trained crews.

The technical insight

The self-levelling behaviour comes from a low-viscosity, high-solids epoxy resin blended with a matched amine-type hardener; once mixed in the correct ratio the liquid flows out under its own weight and de-aerates to a near-flat film, which is why substrate flatness and correct priming matter so much. The fire-retardant performance is not a coating on top but is engineered into the resin matrix through flame-retardant additives that interfere with the combustion cycle. In a fire, these additives promote char formation and release species that dilute or interrupt the flame at the surface, so the floor is far less willing to sustain and spread burning than a plain epoxy. Being 100% solids, the film cures by cross-linking rather than solvent loss, giving a dense, non-porous topping that resists chemical penetration and cleans easily. The trade-off to respect is that fire performance is a function of the tested build and thickness stated on STP’s TDS, and the resin remains an organic material, so the product is fire-retardant by design, not non-combustible.

Where it is used

  • Electrical substations, switchgear rooms and transformer bays where a spark or fault could ignite the floor
  • Cable basements, cable spreader floors and services trenches carrying live power runs
  • Factory escape routes, corridors and emergency exit paths that must resist flame spread
  • Petrochemical, chemical and process plant floors handling flammable or aggressive media
  • Flammable-goods and solvent storage areas, and adjacent decanting or handling zones
  • Battery rooms, generator rooms and utility areas within industrial and infrastructure buildings
  • Areas needing a smooth, colour-coded, easy-clean industrial finish alongside fire-safety intent
  • Light-to-medium-duty production and equipment bays where hygiene and durability both matter

Key advantages

  • Fire-retardant chemistry built into the resin, so the floor resists ignition and slows flame spread
  • Solvent-free, 100% solids formulation with negligible solvent odour, suited to enclosed rooms and basements
  • Self-levelling flow gives a smooth, seamless, monolithic finish with minimal trowel marks
  • Non-porous surface that resists oils, spillage and mild chemicals and is easy to clean and disinfect
  • Available in multiple RAL colours for hazard zoning, walkway marking and a clean plant appearance
  • Hard, durable topping that takes pedestrian and light-to-medium equipment traffic
  • Supplied pre-weighed in matched packs, reducing on-site mixing errors
  • Backed by STP technical documentation and Space Arc’s application and supply support across India

Limitations & considerations

  • Fire-retardant, not non-combustible; it slows flame spread but the resin is still an organic material
  • Fire rating is only valid at the tested build and thickness stated in STP’s current TDS, not at any arbitrary film
  • At 1-2 mm it is a topping, not a heavy screed, so very high-impact or forklift-heavy floors may need a thicker STP grade
  • Epoxy topcoats can chalk, yellow and lose gloss under prolonged direct sunlight or UV exposure
  • Success depends on a sound, dry, primed substrate; damp or contaminated concrete causes debonding
  • Pot life is limited once mixed, so batches must be sized to what the crew can pour and spread in time

Selection & best practice

Treat the substrate as the make-or-break step. Concrete should be structurally sound, fully cured, and dry, with a minimum compressive strength as advised in the TDS; mechanically prepare it by grinding or shot-blasting to remove laitance, old paint, oil and loose material, then vacuum clean. Check moisture before starting, because self-levelling epoxy over damp slabs is the most common cause of blistering and delamination. Apply the recommended STP epoxy primer and let it develop before topping. Mix only full, pre-weighed packs in the correct base-to-hardener ratio using a slow-speed stirrer, mix to a uniform colour, and avoid whipping in air. Pour and spread promptly within pot life, using a notched trowel or pin rake to control thickness, and roll with a spiked de-aerating roller to release entrained air. Keep to the 1-2 mm build and the thickness that the fire-retardant rating relies on. Maintain suitable temperature and ventilation during cure, protect from water, dust and traffic until the floor has hardened, and follow the full recoat and cure times on the STP TDS. For fire-critical areas, retain the batch records and the datasheet build so the installed system matches what was specified.

Frequently asked questions

Is ShaliFloor SL FR 2E fireproof or fire-retardant?
It is fire-retardant, not fireproof. The resin is formulated to resist ignition and slow flame spread across the floor, but it remains an organic epoxy and is not a non-combustible material. Its fire rating applies at the tested thickness and build stated in STP’s technical data sheet.
What thickness is it applied at, and can it go thicker?
It is a self-levelling topping designed for 1-2 mm. Going arbitrarily thicker is not the way to add durability; for heavy-impact or forklift-heavy floors, a thicker STP screed grade is the correct route. Crucially, the fire-retardant performance is tied to the tested build, so the specified thickness should be respected.
Does it need a primer?
Yes. A sound, dry, mechanically prepared substrate should be primed with the STP-recommended epoxy primer before the self-levelling topping is poured. Skipping priming or applying over damp or contaminated concrete is the most common cause of blistering and debonding.
Where is this product typically specified?
Electrical substations, cable and transformer floors, factory escape routes, petrochemical and chemical plant floors, and flammable-goods storage areas. In short, places where you want a proper industrial epoxy floor but also need to control the risk of flame spread.
Is it safe to apply indoors?
Because it is solvent-free and 100% solids, there is negligible solvent flash-off during cure, which makes it much more suitable for enclosed rooms, basements and switchgear areas than solvent-borne systems. Adequate ventilation and standard epoxy handling precautions still apply during mixing and curing.
Can Space Arc supply and also apply it?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised distributor and applicator and can supply genuine STP ShaliFloor SL FR 2E and carry out the flooring with trained crews across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, including substrate assessment, priming and application to the datasheet build.

How we position STP ShaliFloor SL FR 2E

Within the STP ShaliFloor range, choose SL FR 2E specifically when fire behaviour matters; for a standard smooth self-levelling floor without the fire-retardant requirement, STP’s ShaliFloor SL TC 4E pigmented epoxy topping is the mainstream option, while anti-static and conductive areas point to the ShaliFloor SL AS 3 E / 3E SL ASC grades, and thicker heavy-duty needs suit an SL underlay or screed grade. Across brands we also supply Fosroc’s Nitoflor self-levelling epoxy toppings and other industrial-flooring systems, so if a project standard is written around Fosroc rather than STP we can match the specification. As always, the substrate priming and preparation are as important as the topping itself, and our team can advise on the right combination for a given room and load class.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 — Choose the Fosroc option when a project is specified around the Nitoflor range and needs a proven 2 mm self-smoothing epoxy topping, though it is a general industrial floor and does not carry the fire-retardant formulation that distinguishes ShaliFloor SL FR 2E.
