STP ShaliSeal PU PG 2K
A cold-applied, self-levelling two-component polyurethane sealant for horizontal movement and control joints in floors, pavements and fuel-exposed decks.
What is it?
A two-component, chemically curing polyurethane pouring-grade joint sealant that mixes on site and self-levels into horizontal joints to form a tough, flexible, watertight seal.
Where is it used?
Horizontal expansion and control joints in concrete floors, runways, aprons, car-park decks, warehouses, highways and bridges, including fuel and chemical spillage zones.
Why use it?
It accommodates plus or minus 30 percent joint movement, resists fuel, oil and hydraulic fluids, and is applied cold with no hot-pour equipment.
How is it applied?
Prime the joint with ShaliPrime S, insert a bond breaker, mix Part A and B, then pour and tool the sealant into the joint in two lifts.
About STP ShaliSeal PU PG 2K
STP ShaliSeal PU PG 2K is the pouring-grade polyurethane member of the ShaliSeal joint-sealant range, built specifically for horizontal joints that have to move, carry traffic and survive contact with fuel and oil. It arrives as two pre-weighed parts: a liquid polyurethane polymer base and a hardener that are mixed on site in a fixed 96:4 ratio by weight. Once combined, the grey liquid cures chemically into a tough, hard-wearing, elastomeric seal that bonds to the joint faces and stays flexible through years of thermal and load cycling. Because it is free-flowing and self-levelling, it settles into the joint profile and finds every irregularity without the trowelling a gun-grade sealant needs.
For engineers and contractors working on airfields, industrial floors and parking decks, its real value is the combination of movement capability and chemical resistance in a cold-applied product. A movement accommodation factor of plus or minus 30 percent lets it follow joints that open and close with temperature and traffic, while its resistance to fuel, oil and hydraulic fluids makes it suited to aprons, fuelling areas and workshop floors where polysulphide or bitumen sealants degrade. It conforms to BS 5212:1990 Part 1 and IS 12118, the recognised references for cold-applied pouring-grade joint sealants in India, giving specifiers a documented basis for approval.
The technical insight
The performance comes from the cured polyurethane network rather than any surface film. When the isocyanate-bearing base reacts with the hardener, it builds a cross-linked elastomer that is deliberately soft and extensible, measuring around Shore A 16 with elongation of 350 to 500 percent. That low modulus is what allows the sealant to stretch and compress with the joint instead of tearing or pulling away from the concrete arris. Correct joint geometry is essential to this behaviour: designing a width-to-depth ratio between 1:1 and 1.5:1 over a bond breaker forces the sealant to strain across its width in a two-sided bond, so movement is distributed through the depth of the seal. Skip the bond breaker and you get three-sided adhesion, which concentrates strain at the base and causes early cohesive failure. The polyurethane backbone also carries the fuel and oil resistance, holding its properties on contact with hydrocarbons where softer chemistries swell or soften.
Where it is used
- Sealing expansion and control joints in concrete runways, taxiways and airport aprons
- Fuel-handling and chemical-spillage floor areas where hydrocarbon resistance is essential
- Movement and control joints in car-park decks, warehouses and industrial floors
- Horizontal joints on highways, service roads and pavement slabs
- Bridge deck and approach-slab joints subject to traffic and thermal movement
- Water-retaining and treatment-plant floor joints needing a watertight, flexible seal
- Loading bays and heavy-duty floors exposed to oil, grease and vehicle traffic
Key advantages
- Cold-applied and self-levelling, so no hot-pour equipment or trowelling is required on horizontal joints
- Accommodates plus or minus 30 percent joint movement, verified to ASTM C 719
- High elongation of 350 to 500 percent keeps the seal flexible through thermal and traffic cycling
- Strong resistance to fuel, oil and hydraulic fluids for aprons, fuelling zones and workshop floors
- Complies with BS 5212:1990 Part 1 and IS 12118 for documented specification and approval
- Supplied in pre-weighed A and B packs, removing site batching errors in the mix ratio
- Tough, hard-wearing cured seal that takes traffic within 24 hours at normal temperatures
- Better UV and weathering durability than conventional polysulphide pouring sealants
Limitations & considerations
- Horizontal joints only; the pouring grade self-levels and is not for vertical or overhead joints
- Not recommended for joints on slopes with a gradient greater than 10 percent
- Maximum joint width of 40 mm and a minimum sealant depth of 10 mm must be respected
- Should not be applied below 5°C, or on damp, contaminated or asphalt surfaces
- Contains isocyanate, so ventilation, gloves and eye protection are required during use
- Low-temperature curing can extend full cure to as long as 10 days
Selection & best practice
Get the joint geometry right before anything else: design a width-to-depth ratio of 1:1 to 1.5:1 with a minimum 10 mm sealant depth, and never let the depth exceed the width. The joint faces must be clean, dry and sound, exposed by wire brushing, grinding, sand blasting or solvent cleaning, with substrate moisture below 0.06 percent. Apply ShaliPrime S at 7 to 9 m2 per litre in a thin coat and let it become tack-free; re-prime if you do not seal within 3 to 4 hours. Fit a closed-cell backer rod, or bond-breaking tape where depth is limited, to prevent three-sided adhesion. Mix a full kit at a time, never part-mix, pouring Part B into Part A and blending with a slow-speed drill at 300 to 400 rpm for 2 to 3 minutes until uniform. Pour two-thirds of the material and tool it to release trapped air, then add the balance and tool to a smooth finish, all within the 30 to 40 minute application life. Work between 10°C and 40°C substrate and ambient temperature, mask the joint edges for a neat line, and clean tools immediately with STP Thinner before the material hardens.

How we position STP ShaliSeal PU PG 2K
ShaliSeal PU PG 2K is the polyurethane, fuel-resistant choice within the STP ShaliSeal joint-sealant family. Where a project instead specifies a polysulphide chemistry, its sibling ShaliSeal PS PG covers the same horizontal pouring-grade role, while gun-grade ShaliSeal variants handle vertical and facade joints; all pair with STP’s ShaliPrime S primer and are cleaned with STP Thinner. Across our other brands, Fosroc’s polysulphide pouring sealants serve the equivalent airport-apron and reservoir duty, and Sika offers polyurethane sealants for similar movement joints, so specifiers can be matched to whichever approved brand a tender names. As authorised distributors and applicators across Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc can supply the sealant, the matching primer and backer rod, and site guidance as a complete jointing package.
Fosroc Thioflex 600 — Choose Fosroc Thioflex 600 when a tender specifies a polysulphide (rather than polyurethane) pouring-grade sealant for horizontal movement joints, such as reservoir floors or airport aprons.
