What is it?

A rigid, coloured epoxy coating system from Sika built from a primer coat and one or two roller coats of Sikafloor-264 HC N, finishing at roughly 0.5 mm nominal thickness.

Where is it used?

Storage and assembly halls, maintenance workshops, garages, loading ramps, and as a seal coat over broadcast epoxy in car parks and beverage or food process areas.

Why use it?

It delivers a hard-wearing, chemically resistant, easily cleaned gloss floor at low film thickness, keeping the specification simple and the substrate protected against liquids and abrasion.

How is it applied?

Mechanically prepared concrete is primed with Sikafloor-264 HC N, then one to two roller coats are applied by squeegee and back-rolled crosswise with a short-pile roller.

About Sika Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 RC AP

Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 RC AP is Sika’s answer for floors that need genuine chemical and abrasion protection without the cost or build height of a thick, self-smoothing screed. It is a complete system rather than a single tin: a primer coat followed by one or two roller coats, both drawn from the same solvent-free epoxy binder, Sikafloor-264 HC N. The result is a smooth, rigid, coloured film with a gloss finish that sits at roughly 0.5 mm nominal thickness and seals the concrete against spills, wheeled traffic and routine wear. For Indian plants, warehouses and parking structures where the concrete is basically sound but the surface is dusting, staining or hard to keep clean, this is a pragmatic, specifiable upgrade.

The “RC AP” in the name signals its two working modes. As a roller coat, it protects bare concrete and cement screeds in dry areas with normal up to medium-heavy wear. As a seal coat, it locks down broadcast epoxy systems in multistorey and underground car parks, maintenance hangars and wet process zones such as beverage and food industry floors. Because both roles use the same base resin, contractors work with one product family, one mixing routine and one set of application rules across the job. Sika restricts application to experienced professionals, which matters: the film is thin, so surface preparation, coverage control and colour uniformity carry more weight than they would on a heavy trowel-applied floor.

The technical insight

The system’s performance comes from the crosslinked epoxy network of Sikafloor-264 HC N. When Part A (pigmented resin) and Part B (hardener) are mixed, the hardener’s amine groups react with the resin’s epoxide rings to form a dense, three-dimensional thermoset that is chemically bonded rather than merely dried. That network is what gives the cured film its rigidity and its resistance to solvents, mild acids, oils and fats. The primer coat does two jobs at once: it wets into the open, mechanically prepared concrete to key the system down, and it seals surface porosity so the roller coat can flow out to an even, pore-free gloss instead of pinholing. Applying by squeegee and then back-rolling crosswise is not a habit but a mechanism for controlling wet-film thickness and orienting the material so it self-levels into a continuous liquid-proof membrane. The dew-point rule is equally physical: if the concrete surface is not held at least 3 degrees C above the dew point, condensation can form under or within the film during cure, disrupting the amine cure and producing “blushing” or adhesion failure. Because the coat is only around half a millimetre thick, it relies on the underlying concrete for load-bearing strength, which is why Sika specifies a sound substrate of at least 25 N/mm compressive strength and 1.5 N/mm pull-off before any coating goes down.

Where it is used

  • Protective roller coat on concrete and cement screeds in dry storage and assembly halls
  • Floors in maintenance workshops, garages and vehicle service bays
  • Loading ramps and dispatch areas carrying normal to medium-heavy wheeled traffic
  • Seal coat over broadcast epoxy in multistorey and underground car parks
  • Sealer coat for maintenance hangars and heavy-duty industrial process floors
  • Wet process areas in the beverage and food industry (as a seal coat)
  • Refurbishment overcoating of existing, well-bonded epoxy floors
  • Areas where a hygienic, easily cleaned gloss finish is required

Key advantages

  • Good chemical resistance against many oils, fats and mild chemicals
  • Good wear and abrasion resistance for a thin-film coating
  • Liquid-proof, pore-free film that seals and protects the concrete
  • Gloss finish with easy clean-ability, well suited to hygiene-sensitive areas
  • Available in a range of RAL shades for zoning and marking
  • Solvent-free base resin with low odour during application
  • Single-product system (primer and coats share one binder), simplifying site logistics
  • Low nominal thickness of about 0.5 mm keeps material cost and build height down

Limitations & considerations

  • Thin coating (~0.5 mm) offers no structural build-up and cannot bridge cracks or level uneven concrete
  • Requires a sound substrate of at least 25 N/mm compressive and 1.5 N/mm pull-off strength
  • Not suitable where substrate moisture exceeds 4% by weight unless a Sikafloor EpoCem temporary moisture barrier is used first
  • Short pot life of about 25 minutes at +20 degrees C leaves little working time; higher temperatures shorten it further
  • Application is restricted to experienced professionals and demands proper mechanical surface preparation
  • Sensitive to condensation and blushing if the dew-point margin of +3 degrees C is not maintained

Selection & best practice

Prepare concrete mechanically by blast cleaning, scarifying or grinding to remove laitance and open the surface, then remove all dust by vacuum. Confirm substrate moisture is at or below 4% by weight and that the surface sits at least 3 degrees C above the dew point before opening any pack; if moisture is higher, apply a Sikafloor EpoCem temporary moisture barrier first. Prime with Sikafloor-264 HC N to a continuous, pore-free coat, adding a second priming pass on porous concrete. Mix Part A on its own with the pigment, add Part B and mix continuously for 2 to 3 minutes with a low-speed paddle (300 to 400 rpm), then decant and remix briefly to limit air entrainment; mix full units only and never use free-fall mixers. Apply the roller coat by squeegee and back-roll crosswise with a short-pile roller, working within the roughly 25-minute pot life at +20 degrees C and respecting the overcoating windows. Keep ambient and substrate temperatures between +10 and +35 degrees C and relative humidity at or below 80%, and expect foot traffic in about 24 hours and full cure in about 7 days at +20 degrees C. Lighter colours may need an extra coat for full opacity.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 RC AP a single product or a full system?
It is a system. It comprises a primer coat and one or two roller coats, both applied using the same solvent-free epoxy binder, Sikafloor-264 HC N, to build a finished floor of roughly 0.5 mm nominal thickness.
How much material do I need per square metre?
Budget 0.30-0.50 kg/m for the primer coat and 0.35-0.50 kg/m for each roller coat. These are theoretical figures, so add for surface porosity, profile and wastage, and allow an extra coat for lighter colours.
Can I apply it if my concrete is still a little damp?
No. Substrate moisture must be at or below 4% by weight. If it is higher, a Sikafloor EpoCem temporary moisture barrier can be applied first. Always keep the surface at least 3 degrees C above the dew point to avoid blushing.
How soon can the floor be used after coating?
At +20 degrees C, expect foot traffic in about 24 hours, light traffic in about 4 days and full chemical cure in about 7 days. Colder conditions extend all of these times.
What colours are available?
The system is supplied in a range of RAL shades with a gloss finish, which suits zoning, marking and hygiene-sensitive areas. Lighter shades may need an additional coat for full opacity.
Where does this system fit against a thicker Sika floor?
It is a thin-film coating for sound concrete with normal to medium-heavy wear, not a structural screed. For heavy impact, deeper build or self-smoothing needs, a broadcast or trowel-applied Sikafloor system is more appropriate.

How we position Sika Sikafloor MultiDur ES-05 RC AP

Within the Sika flooring family, this system pairs naturally with Sikafloor-264 HC N, which is its own base resin and can also be specified as a self-smoothing coat; Sikafloor-161 HC serves as the levelling mortar for rough substrates, and Sikafloor EpoCem is the go-to temporary moisture barrier when concrete reads above 4%. Where a decorative broadcast or self-smoothing finish is wanted rather than a roller coat, Sikafloor MultiDur EB-10 AP or the self-smoothing ES-05 variants are the step up. Across our other brands, Space Arc can offer equivalent industrial epoxy coatings from Fosroc (the Nitoflor FC range) and MC-Bauchemie, and for heavy wet, thermal-cycling process areas we would steer specifiers toward a polyurethane-hybrid screed such as Fosroc Nitoflor TF 100 UH instead of a thin epoxy coat.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor FC150 — A specifier standardising on Fosroc might choose FC150 as the equivalent high-performance, solvent-free coloured epoxy floor coating for chemical- and abrasion-resistant industrial floors.
