MC-Bauchemie Centrament Corrodur
A chloride-free liquid admixture dosed into the mix to slow reinforcement corrosion from carbonation and chloride attack in RCC structures.
What is it?
A brown, chloride-free liquid corrosion-inhibiting admixture from MC-Bauchemie, batched into fresh concrete at 3.0-6.0% by cement weight — sold in India for years as MC-Corrodur.
Where is it used?
Bridges, jetties and marine structures, parking decks, basements, roadway slabs, culverts, concrete pipes and precast elements — wherever chloride or carbonation threaten embedded steel.
Why use it?
It slows the chloride and carbonation reactions that de-passivate embedded steel, extending time-to-corrosion — a more affordable route than epoxy-coated rebar or external protective coatings.
How is it applied?
Dosed directly into the concrete mix at the batching plant or site mixer, 3.0% to 6.0% by weight of cement, compatible with any cement type.
About MC-Bauchemie Centrament Corrodur
Centrament Corrodur — the current name for what MC-Bauchemie India sold for years as MC-Corrodur — is an integral, chloride-free corrosion-inhibiting admixture. Rather than coating the rebar or the concrete surface, it is batched straight into the mix, working alongside concrete’s natural alkalinity (pH roughly 12.5-13.5) to keep the passivating layer around the reinforcement intact for longer. Carbonation and chloride ingress both attack this layer over a structure’s life, eventually letting steel rust, expand to roughly 2.5 times its original volume, and crack the cover concrete from within. Centrament Corrodur is formulated to push that timeline out, and it carries a built-in high-performance plasticizer specifically to offset the compressive-strength penalty that plain corrosion inhibitors tend to bring.
That makes it a fit wherever chloride or carbonation exposure is severe and re-doing the reinforcement later would be expensive or near-impossible — coastal jetties, basements below the water table, salted parking ramps, or RCC inside chemical and fertiliser plant compounds. It doses the same way whether the concrete is site ready-mixed or precast, and being chloride-free itself, it doesn’t add to the very risk it’s meant to control. Space Arc supplies and applies it as part of MC-Bauchemie’s wider durability range for Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.
The technical insight
Concrete protects embedded steel because its alkaline pore water (pH roughly 12.5-13.5) keeps a passive oxide film on the rebar surface. Carbonation erodes that alkalinity by neutralising calcium hydroxide; chlorides break the passive film directly even at high pH, and once corrosion starts, rust occupies about 2.5 times the steel’s original volume, cracking the cover from within. Centrament Corrodur’s 3.0-6.0% dosage range reflects that it is working against both mechanisms at once — which is also why MC-Bauchemie recommends trial-mix verification rather than a single fixed rate for every exposure class.
Where it is used
- RCC bridges, flyovers and viaducts exposed to roadway chlorides
- Marine and coastal jetties, wharfs and breakwaters under tidal chloride attack
- Multi-level parking decks and ramps exposed to de-icing or vehicle-tracked salts
- Basements and below-grade RCC exposed to sub-soil moisture and chlorides
- Roadway slabs, culverts, drainage structures and RCC pipes
- Precast and pre-stressed concrete elements cast in a controlled yard
- RCC inside chemical, fertiliser and pharma plant compounds
- Repair and rehabilitation pours on structures with a prior corrosion history
Key advantages
- Chloride-free formulation — protects against corrosion without adding chloride load itself
- Built-in high-performance plasticizer offsets the strength drop typical of corrosion inhibitors
- Compatible with all types of cement, per the manufacturer’s data sheet
- Works in both site-mixed RMC and precast/pre-stressed production
- A more economical route over the structure’s life than epoxy-coated rebar or surface coatings
- Backed by MC-Bauchemie India’s Navi Mumbai technical and manufacturing support
- Simple batching-stage dosing — no extra site labour or separate curing step
- Cuts the odds of costly, often inaccessible, corrosion repairs on marine and buried structures
Limitations & considerations
- Not a substitute for correct cover, w/c ratio and mix design under IS 456 — it supplements durability detailing, it doesn’t replace it
- Dosage spans a fairly wide 3.0-6.0% band, so trial mixes are needed to lock in the right rate for each project
- The published data sheet doesn’t disclose third-party chloride-threshold or long-term corrosion-test results — ask MC-Bauchemie for project-specific reports on critical marine works
- 12-month shelf life from date of manufacture; must remain in unopened packaging, protected from rain, sun, heat and frost — not a product to stockpile
- Being a liquid admixture, protection quality depends on accurate batching-plant dosing; hand-dosing at small sites raises the risk of under- or over-dosing
- The technical data sheet on record is dated 2013 — worth reconfirming current formulation and dosage guidance with MC-Bauchemie India before large specifications
Selection & best practice
Run trial mixes across the 3.0-6.0% dosage band before finalising the mix design, checking compressive strength and workability against project targets rather than assuming the built-in plasticizer fully offsets the penalty. Treat Centrament Corrodur as one layer in a durability strategy — pair it with adequate cover, a low w/c ratio and proper curing, not as a stand-alone fix for severe marine or de-icing exposure.

Industry use cases
Coastal Infrastructure
A jetty or wharf on India’s western coastline, where tidal and splash-zone chloride exposure would otherwise start corroding rebar within a decade of casting.
Urban Parking Structures
Basement or podium parking in NCR with winter-salted entry ramps, where chloride-laden runoff concentrates at expansion joints.
Precast Infrastructure
A precast yard producing RCC culverts and drainage pipes for highways, building corrosion protection in at the batching stage rather than coating each unit later.
Bridges & Flyovers
Elevated bridge decks and piers exposed to monsoon carbonation and vehicular pollution, where inspection and repair access is difficult once corrosion begins.
Process & Industrial Plants
RCC foundations and structures inside fertiliser, chemical or pharma plant compounds, where the ambient atmosphere is more aggressive than standard exposure classes assume.

How we position MC-Bauchemie Centrament Corrodur
Within MC-Bauchemie’s Centrament admixture range, Corrodur sits alongside plasticizers like Centrament N4, air-entraining agents like Centrament Air, and grouting aids like Centrament GA — together covering most cast-in-place and precast durability needs under one brand, sourced through Space Arc as an authorised distributor and applicator. As a dedicated corrosion-inhibiting admixture, its closest market alternative is Fosroc’s calcium-nitrite-based Conplast CN. Specifiers choosing between an organic, chloride-free inhibitor and a calcium-nitrite one — or simply wanting a second quote — can compare both through Space Arc’s admixture range.
Fosroc Conplast CN — Specifiers who prefer a calcium-nitrite-based corrosion inhibitor with a longer international track record and published chloride-threshold data may choose Conplast CN over Centrament Corrodur’s organic, chloride-free chemistry.
