D-Seal JackGuard
Surface-mounted aluminium expansion joint cover that keeps floor-to-floor movement joints level, protected and trafficable in commercial and industrial buildings.
What is it?
A horizontal floor-to-floor expansion joint cover from D-Seal, built as an extruded ASTM 6063 T6 aluminium plate and frame with a pre-drilled fixing arrangement, available in cover plate widths from 100 mm to 375 mm.
Where is it used?
Movement joints in commercial concourses, factory and warehouse floors, and institutional buildings — wherever two slabs meet on the same level and the joint must carry foot or trolley traffic.
Why use it?
It bridges the joint gap with a flush, hard-wearing metal cover, so the structure keeps moving while the floor stays safe, level and easy to clean — with no exposed gap to trap wheels or debris.
How is it applied?
Surface-fixed across the joint: the frame is anchored to sound concrete through factory pre-drilled holes using suitable mechanical anchors, leaving the joint free to open and close beneath the plate.
About D-Seal JackGuard
Every long floor slab needs movement joints, and every movement joint is a weak point the day traffic starts rolling over it. Trolley wheels catch the edges, arrises spall, housekeeping teams fight the open gap. JackGuard is D-Seal’s answer for level floor-to-floor conditions: an extruded aluminium cover plate and frame system that spans the joint and takes the traffic, while the slabs on either side stay free to move. The extrusion is ASTM 6063 T6 aluminium produced to ASTM B221-02, supplied in a practical mill finish, from a manufacturer certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
Space Arc Engineering supplies and installs JackGuard across Delhi NCR and pan-India as an authorised D-Seal channel. Because the system is surface-fixed through a pre-drilled frame, it suits both new construction and refurbishment — a common use case is retrofitting covers over joints in occupied warehouses and commercial buildings where recessed systems would mean breaking out finished floor.
The technical insight
JackGuard works by bridging, not bonding. The cover plate spans the joint gap and bears on the slab edges either side, transferring foot and trolley loads across the discontinuity — while the joint itself stays free to open and close beneath the plate as the structure breathes thermally or settles. Nothing rigid connects slab to slab, which is exactly the point: a joint that is clamped shut stops being a joint. The alloy choice matters too. 6063 in the T6 temper — solution heat-treated and artificially aged — is the workhorse architectural extrusion alloy: it extrudes to tight, straight profiles per ASTM B221-02 so plates sit flat without rocking, offers a useful strength-to-weight ratio for site handling, and forms a self-healing oxide film that resists corrosion without paint. Mill finish keeps the wearing surface honest — scuffs from traffic do not read as damage the way they would on a coated plate.
Where it is used
- Commercial building floors, lobbies and concourses with continuous pedestrian traffic
- Factory and industrial unit floors where joints must survive trolley and equipment movement
- Warehouse and storage facility slabs, including retrofit over existing movement joints
- Institutional and public buildings — hospitals, campuses, transport buildings
- Corridor and link-block junctions where two structures meet at the same floor level
- Refurbishment projects where damaged or open joints need covering without breaking out floor finishes
- Back-of-house and service areas where a robust, cleanable metal joint line is preferred over inserts
Key advantages
- Extruded ASTM 6063 T6 aluminium plate and frame — dimensionally consistent and corrosion-resistant without coatings
- Wide selection band: cover plate widths from 100 mm to 375 mm to suit different joint gaps and bearing needs
- Keeps the floor line flush and trip-safe across the joint for pedestrians and wheeled traffic
- Joint remains free to move beneath the cover — thermal and routine structural movement is not restrained
- Surface-fixed through factory pre-drilled holes, so installation is fast and suits occupied buildings
- Mill-finish aluminium is hard-wearing and low-maintenance — neutral-detergent cleaning is all it needs
- Equally usable on new build and refurbishment, with no recess to form in the screed
Limitations & considerations
- Movement capacity and load rating are not published on the general datasheet — confirm against the project joint schedule and the current D-Seal TDS before ordering
- A surface-mounted plate stands proud of the floor unless detailed with ramped edges; where a fully flush recessed profile is specified, a recess-mount system like D-Seal JointMaster is the correct choice
- JackGuard is a mechanical cover, not a waterproofing element — joints needing watertightness require a separate water barrier or sealant below the plate
- Not intended for defined heavy vehicular loading such as parking decks — D-Seal ParkGuard or DriveFlex serve that duty
- Mill finish is functional rather than decorative; premium architectural interiors may call for a different finish or system
- Aluminium should not be maintained with acidic or aggressive cleaners, and anchors need periodic inspection in high-traffic areas
Selection & best practice
Start with a joint survey, not a catalogue page: record the actual gap width, any variation along the run, and the level match between the two slabs, then select a plate width that leaves adequate bearing on both sides of the joint. Substrate quality decides how the cover performs — the concrete edges must be sound, level and free of spalls; repair damaged arrises with a suitable repair mortar and let it cure before fixing. Set the frame out dry first, mark through the factory pre-drilled holes, then anchor with mechanical fixings appropriate to the slab. The plate must sit flat and rattle-free along its full length; a rocking cover fails fast under wheeled traffic. Where the joint needs to be sealed against water or dust, install the sealant or barrier before the cover goes down. In service, clean with neutral detergent and water — never acidic cleaners — keep the joint zone clear of packed debris, and check fixings on a routine maintenance cycle.

Industry use cases
Warehousing & Logistics
Covers movement joints in distribution-centre slabs so pallet trolleys and foot traffic cross without catching joint edges; retrofit-friendly fixing means installation happens without stopping operations.
Commercial & Retail Buildings
Keeps concourse and corridor joints flush and trip-safe in malls and office buildings, with a cleanable metal joint line that housekeeping teams can maintain with routine neutral-detergent washing.
Industrial & Manufacturing
Protects joint arrises on factory floors where equipment movement and constant traffic would otherwise spall exposed concrete edges into a growing maintenance problem.
Institutional & Public Buildings
Hospitals, campuses and transport buildings use floor-to-floor covers at link corridors and building junctions where two structures meet and move independently at the same level.
Refurbishment & Facility Upgrades
Facility teams specify JackGuard over old, damaged or open joints in occupied buildings — the surface-fixed frame avoids the breakout and downtime a recessed system would demand.

How we position D-Seal JackGuard
JackGuard sits at the practical centre of the D-Seal floor range: the straightforward surface-mounted cover for level floor-to-floor joints. When the specification shifts, the family covers it — JointMaster for flush recess-mounted joints with fire and acoustic ratings, DriveFlex and ParkGuard for vehicular and parking-deck loads, SeismoGuard 100 where multi-directional seismic movement governs, and FlexiGuard or HorizonGuard where a flexible insert or sealant-based detail suits better than a plate. Space Arc also completes the joint as a system: Sika and Fosroc joint sealants for the gap itself, and Dr. Fixit or Fosroc waterproofing tie-ins where the joint line meets wet areas or podium decks. Tell us the joint width, traffic and exposure — we will match the system, supply it, and install it.
