D-Seal LevelJoint
Surface-fixed aluminium cover-plate system that carries floor finishes flush across expansion joints as wide as 100-375 mm, keeping large commercial interiors level, safe and clean-lined.
What is it?
A floor-to-floor expansion joint cover system from D-Seal, built around an extruded aluminium plate (alloy 6063, ASTM B221-02) that spans unusually wide structural gaps of 100 mm to 375 mm.
Where is it used?
Atriums, concourses, corridors and large-span slabs in commercial, institutional and public buildings, plus warehouses and halls with big slab separations, in low- to medium-traffic zones.
Why use it?
Most insert-type joint profiles top out well below 100 mm. LevelJoint bridges gaps up to 375 mm with a flush, trip-free, corrosion-resistant walking surface at a sensible cost.
How is it applied?
Surface-fixed: edge frames are set level along both joint arrises, and the aluminium plate is fixed across the opening so it finishes flush with the floor while the slabs move beneath it.
About D-Seal LevelJoint
Very wide structural joints are a recurring headache on Indian commercial projects. Where two building wings meet, or where a long podium slab is broken for thermal movement, the designed gap can easily run past 100 mm — far beyond what a rubber insert or a standard metal profile can bridge. D-Seal LevelJoint answers exactly this situation. It is a surface-mounted aluminium cover-plate system engineered for joint openings from 100 mm right up to 375 mm, giving engineers a straightforward way to close a wide gap without redesigning the slab edge.
The plate is extruded from aluminium alloy 6063 conforming to ASTM B221-02, produced in a facility certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. Because the system fixes to the floor surface rather than into a cast recess, it suits both new construction and refurbishment — a practical advantage when an existing joint cover has failed or a gap was left untreated at handover. Space Arc Engineering supplies LevelJoint across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, and our applicator teams can measure, fabricate-to-length and install it as a complete package.
The technical insight
An expansion joint cover has one core job: let two slabs move independently while people and light wheeled loads pass over the gap as if it were not there. LevelJoint does this by separating the fixing function from the spanning function. The edge frames are anchored level along the joint arrises and carry the plate; the plate itself simply bridges the opening, so when the slabs drift together or apart with temperature or structural settlement, movement is absorbed at the interface rather than stressing the plate or the fixings. Alloy 6063 is the sensible material choice for this duty — it extrudes cleanly into flat, dimensionally consistent profiles under ASTM B221-02, forms a natural protective oxide layer so there is no rust staining on pale flooring, and keeps the plate light enough to handle, cut and replace section by section. The flush-set detail is what eliminates the trip edge that loose chequered plates and ad-hoc site covers always create over wide gaps.
Where it is used
- Atriums, concourses and circulation spaces in commercial buildings
- Large-span institutional floors — campuses, libraries, administrative blocks
- Public buildings with wide structural joints between wings
- Office lobbies and corridors crossing building movement joints
- Warehouses and halls with large slab separations (pedestrian and light wheeled traffic)
- Refurbishment of failed or missing covers over existing wide joints
- Podium and transfer-level interiors where wings meet at a wide gap
Key advantages
- Spans exceptionally wide joints — 100 mm to 375 mm — beyond the reach of typical insert profiles
- Extruded 6063 aluminium to ASTM B221-02: corrosion-resistant, no rust staining, consistent flatness
- Flush, level transition removes the trip hazard over wide gaps
- Surface fixing needs no cast recess — fast on retrofits and live buildings
- Lightweight plates are easy to cut to length, handle and replace in sections
- Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 systems
- Low upkeep — routine cleaning with neutral detergent and periodic fixing checks
- Economical compared with recess-mounted heavy-duty joint systems for the same width
Limitations & considerations
- Rated for low- and medium-traffic floors only — not for high-footfall concourses or heavy vehicular/forklift routes (specify D-Seal GalaxyJoint, StarGuard or JointMaster there)
- No published point-load or movement rating — confirm project-specific loads and movement class with the D-Seal datasheet before specifying
- It is a cover, not a seal — it does not waterproof the joint; wet areas need a separate water barrier or EPDM seal below the plate
- Aluminium can scratch or dent under dragged pallets and sharp point loads
- Acidic or harsh alkaline cleaners attack the aluminium surface, so the housekeeping regime must be controlled
- Exposed mechanical fixings need periodic inspection and re-tightening as part of maintenance
Selection & best practice
Start with the joint, not the plate. Measure the opening at several points along its run — wide structural joints are rarely uniform — and record the season, since the gap you measure in a Delhi December is not the gap you will see in June. Confirm both slab edges are sound, level with each other and free of spalls; repair any weak arrises with a suitable mortar before fixing, because the frames are only as good as the concrete they anchor into. Set the edge frames dead level along both sides of the joint, fix with anchors appropriate to the substrate, and lay the plate so it finishes flush with the adjoining floor finish — check with a straightedge across the joint, not by eye. Do not over-tighten fixings into aluminium. Where the joint must also stay watertight, install the water barrier or EPDM seal in the gap before the plate goes down. At handover, brief the facility team: neutral detergent only, no acidic cleaners, and a periodic walk-down to check fixings and replace any worn section.

Industry use cases
Commercial Real Estate
Office atriums and lobby-to-wing transitions where two structural blocks meet at a wide movement joint and the floor must read as one continuous, flush surface.
Institutional & Public Buildings
Campuses, libraries and government buildings with long-span slabs — a neat aluminium line across the joint instead of an open gap or a loose site-made plate.
Warehousing & Light Industrial
Halls with large slab separations carrying pedestrian movement and light trolleys; for regular forklift crossings we would move you up the D-Seal range.
Refurbishment & Fit-Out
Replacing failed covers or closing joints left untreated at handover — the surface-fix detail avoids breaking out recesses in an occupied building.
Hospitality & Convention Podiums
Back-of-house and medium-traffic circulation zones over podium movement joints, keeping housekeeping simple with a smooth cleanable plate.

How we position D-Seal LevelJoint
LevelJoint sits in the D-Seal floor range as the wide-gap, moderate-traffic specialist. If your joint is narrower (50-125 mm) but traffic is heavy or rolling, D-Seal GalaxyJoint and StarGuard are the right step up; where fire and acoustic ratings or a 1,000 kg point load matter, D-Seal JointMaster is the recess-mounted answer; and for high-traffic floors in the same 100-375 mm width band, D-Seal JackGuard is the tougher sibling. Roof joints go to D-Seal SkyBridge, and sealing duty below any cover goes to the D-Seal EPDM range (EnduroSeal, SealMaster). For narrow joints that need a sealant rather than a plate, Space Arc also supplies Sika and Fosroc joint sealants from our wider sealants portfolio. Tell us the joint width, traffic and exposure — we will match the model honestly rather than oversell.
