STP ShaliSeal CSS A
Two-component, cold-applied acrylate slurry seal that turns worn asphalt and concrete into a coloured, skid-resistant, hard-wearing surface — no hot work, open to traffic the same day.
What is it?
A two-component, solvent-free acrylate slurry seal from STP that lays down a coloured, textured wearing skin over asphalt and concrete roads.
Where is it used?
Cycle and bus lanes, pedestrian crossings, car parks, airport aprons, toll-plaza approaches and campus roads where colour and grip matter.
Why use it?
It delivers instant lane demarcation, anti-skid safety and surface protection in one cold-applied coat, without milling or hot bitumen.
How is it applied?
Mixed on site and spread by trowel or squeegee, then back-rolled to a uniform ~1.2 mm film; traffic can return in a few hours.
About STP ShaliSeal CSS A
STP ShaliSeal CSS A is built for a job ordinary black-top cannot do: making a road surface a specific colour while also making it safer and longer-lasting. Bitumen is black because of its asphaltene content and simply cannot carry a stable, bright colour on its own. CSS A gets around this with a two-part acrylate system — a pigmented resin component and a hardener — that cures cold into a tough, flexible, coloured wearing course bonded directly to the existing asphalt or concrete. The result is a durable coloured lane that reads clearly to drivers and pedestrians and holds up under real traffic.
For Indian contractors and consultants, the practical appeal is that everything happens cold and fast. There is no hot bitumen, no torching and no plant on site — the kit is mixed by hand or drill and applied straight onto a prepared surface. Because it is solvent-free with effectively full solids, the film you trowel down is the film that stays. STP, a Berger Group company with a long history in road and construction chemicals, supplies CSS A as a pre-weighed kit so site teams get the right resin-to-hardener ratio every time. Space Arc Engineering stocks and applies it as an authorised distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
The technical insight
The performance comes from the acrylate binder rather than any bituminous or thermoplastic base. Once the resin and hardener are combined, the acrylate chemistry cross-links at ambient temperature — typically usable between 10°C and 40°C — to form a continuous polymer film that grips the substrate and encapsulates the coloured pigment and fine aggregate. That cured film sits around Shore D 50–70, hard enough to resist tyre abrasion and channelised braking yet flexible enough to move with the pavement instead of cracking off it. The pot life is short by design (roughly 10 minutes at 30°C), so the mix stays workable just long enough to spread and texture before it sets; the coating hardens in about 1 to 1.5 hours and cures fully in a day. Skid resistance is engineered in through the slurry’s texture, which keeps the surface grippy in the wet — the reason it suits crossings, ramps and braking zones rather than just decoration.
Where it is used
- Coloured cycle-track and bus-lane demarcation on asphalt or concrete carriageways
- Anti-skid coloured surfacing at pedestrian crossings and school zones
- Car-park decks, ramps and bays needing coloured, grippy wearing surfaces
- Airport apron and service-road surface sealing and colour coding
- Approach roads to bridges, flyovers and toll plazas where black-top needs identifying
- Township, campus, resort and gated-community roads for decorative, low-maintenance surfacing
- Surface preservation and rejuvenation of tired but structurally sound pavements
- Junction and traffic-calming areas where colour is used to steer road-user behaviour
Key advantages
- Cold-applied — no hot bitumen, torches or paving plant needed on site
- Two-part acrylate cures into a tough, flexible film that flexes with the pavement
- Built-in skid resistance for safer wet-weather braking and crossings
- Bonds to both asphalt and concrete, so one product covers mixed carriageways
- Solvent-free, near-100% solids formulation with minimal film shrinkage
- Bright, stable colours (red, blue, green, yellow) for clear lane and zone marking
- Fast turnaround — hardens in about 1–1.5 hours and can reopen to traffic the same day
- Supplied as a pre-weighed kit, removing site batching errors in the resin-hardener ratio
Limitations & considerations
- Very short pot life (around 10 minutes at 30°C) demands small batches and a drilled crew
- Needs a sound, clean, dry substrate — it will not bridge structural cracks, potholes or failing pavement
- Application is restricted to a 10–40°C ambient window, so hot afternoons and monsoon damp are off-limits
- As a thin wearing coat (~1.2 mm) it protects and colours the surface but adds no structural strength
- Six-month shelf life in sealed packs means stock must be rotated and planned close to use
Selection & best practice
Success with CSS A is mostly about the substrate and the clock. Start with a surface that is structurally sound, clean, dry and free of oil, laitance and loose material; repair cracks and potholes first, because a slurry seal colours and protects but does not rebuild a road. Work in the 10–40°C window, avoiding rain and heavy dew. Because the pot life is only around ten minutes at 30°C, mix the pre-weighed resin and hardener in full kits, use a mechanical stirrer, and only combine what the crew can lay immediately. Spread by trowel or squeegee to an even ~1.2 mm film at roughly 3.2 kg/m², then back-roll with a short-to-medium pile roller for uniform texture and consistent colour. Keep foot and vehicle traffic off until it has hardened — generally about 3–4 hours minimum — and allow a full day before heavy loading. Always follow the current STP TDS for the batch on site.

Industry use cases
Urban Mobility
Municipal corporations use CSS A to lay red or green cycle and bus lanes and coloured crossings that stay visible and grippy through monsoon traffic.
Airports & Ports
Airside teams colour-code apron edges, service roads and walkways with a cold-applied anti-skid coat that avoids hot work near operations.
Commercial Real Estate
Malls, IT parks and multi-level car parks use it on ramps and bays for wayfinding colour plus wet-grip safety underfoot and under tyre.
Highways & Tolling
Contractors mark bridge and toll-plaza approaches so drivers read the transition zone clearly while the coat protects the underlying black-top.
Townships & Campuses
Gated communities, resorts and institutional campuses use CSS A for decorative coloured internal roads that need little maintenance.

How we position STP ShaliSeal CSS A
Within STP’s own coloured-road range, CSS A is the solvent-free acrylate option; where a water-based system is preferred, STP ShaliSeal CSS WB is the thermoplastic water-based counterpart, and for line and symbol marking rather than full-surface colour, look at ShaliMark thermoplastic and ShaliMark WB acrylic marking paints, or STP Coloured Asphalt where the colour must be built into the mix itself. If the priority is a heavy-duty anti-skid wearing course for bridge decks, car-park ramps or industrial decks rather than road colour-coding, our Fosroc range offers an epoxy-based alternative. Space Arc supplies and applies all of these across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, so specifiers can match chemistry to the exact traffic, colour and durability need.
Fosroc Nitoflor ET Slurry — Choose the Fosroc epoxy anti-skid slurry when the priority is a heavy-duty, waterproof wearing course for bridge decks, car parks or industrial floors rather than acrylate colour-coding of a road surface.
